The last time a North African country had "free" elections, an Islamist party won. The powers that be (USA, Israel, and the EU) wouldn't have that – so you have a dictatorial regime there (and years-long "emergency rule" overturned those elections). I wonder what will happen this time. The west only tolerates democracy in Arab countries, so long as the outcome is unswervingly pro-western. I don't know what is the best outcome here, but if we're going to push for democracy, we ought not be two-faced about it.

The republican response, "Bomb, bomb, bomb, Tripoli." No need for sanctions when we can get another 10 year unfunded war going.

The USA can't police the whole world. Remember we supported these despots because we wanted the oil. People in these areas have been fighting each other since biblical times. We are just going to have to deal with whoever gains control. This area hasn't changed since WWII when Lawrence of Arabia, a British Army officer united the tribes. Once they got to Damascus they started fighting each other.

Obama has once again failed miserably as the leader of the country., How many times does he need to flounder at a response before it becomes obvious to all Democrats that he's not capable. Look, we all knew that he wasn't qualified to be President. His selection to handle foreign affairs, Biden, is a complete disaster and now he can't decide how to react until he visits polls and only after several days. Even then, his message is ambiguous at best. Democrats can do better, and perhaps they will realize it in the next Presidential election.
Hey Wire Palladin, drop the idiotic rhetoric about bombs. Your whacked out politics are the reason the Democrats cannot be taken seriously.

@wire palladin,
You likely were being sarcastic, which I love, but you realize that basically that is what Sarah Palin has called for. She actually said the U.S. should be setting up a No-Fly Zone over Libya to protect its citizens. This once again proves that Mrs. Palin has no political acumen outside of her 18 months as governor. We the U.S. cannot just willy nilly setup a NFZ over a sovereign country that we are not engaged against militarily. That would be an outright "act of war", but she evidently doesn't understand that or care.

I don't understand why everyone thinks that America is the Police of the World? Now, if we are to serve in that role, should we not get paid to do so by other Countries??

We're all hoping for the END to the VIOLENCE. The only thing we can do now is sanction everything – I am sure President Obama is doing all he can do outside of "going to war"!!

the conservitives just are having a ball complaining about how the president is handling libya. its just them coming down off their drug high of minding other contries business. they have made themselves so self important that they think only conservitive from this country can run the world. they are just natural runners of thing like running the middle class into the ground. well conservitives put on some sand colored clothes get a rifle and a plane ticket and go over and inforce you ideas on those other countries, but than again the rich conservitive mostly stay home and let other people fight for ideas that come to their minds!

How do they expect Pres Obama to end the violence in Libya? Aren't we tired of wars in that part of the world? 10 yrs in Afganistan and 8 in Iraq. No matter what we do, it will be wrong to one side or the other. The good part is it is really all about money and they will continue to sell us their oil no matter who comes out on top.
