Actress Julianne Moore to play Palin in new film

(CNN) – Actress Julianne Moore will portray former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin in a new film about the 2008 presidential election, HBO announced Wednesday.

Moore, a four-time Oscar nominee, has been tapped to play the folksy former vice presidential candidate in an HBO Films adaptation of "Game Change," journalists Mark Halperin and John Heilemann's 2010 best-selling book detailing the inner workings of the historic 2008 campaign.

HBO said its film will focus on McCain's losing campaign, including his last-minute pick of the then-little known governor of Alaska as his running mate.

Time Warner is the parent company of CNN and HBO.

    Why not Tina Fey? Julianne Moore is way more attractive than Silly Sarah. I love HBO movies, but I think i'll pass on this one.

    This will be great at making the Palinites heads explode. To bad Moore being so pretty will not be a fair representation, but with her talent she'll get past that – and special effects can help Moore get that "rode hard and put away wet" look to fit the part.

    Is Julianne practicing her winking and non-sequitors? She doesn't have to worry about taking shooting lessons because after much picture posing and empty bragging it's come to light that Sarah Palin can't hit the broad side of a barn with a cannon.

    Julianne Moore is going to have to channel all kinds of method acting, and the acting skills that made her an 8-time Oscar nominee to be able to ACT as stupid as Sarah Palin IS !!!
    If she manages to convince us on the silver screen that she can act STUPID TO THE BONE like Sarah , I see nothing short of another Oscar nomination for Ms. Moore. It's going to take a helluva of an actress to pull that one off.

    Many awards have been won by very attractive actors by getting ugly so Julianne just might have something here. Charlize Theron won by putting on the ugly makeup. Palin is nice looking until she opens her mouth then it is full on ugly, so I am sure Julianne will have fun with getting dumb and ugly for the role. Palin will cry victim when the move airs.
