Actress Julianne Moore to play Palin in new film

(CNN) – Actress Julianne Moore will portray former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin in a new film about the 2008 presidential election, HBO announced Wednesday.

Moore, a four-time Oscar nominee, has been tapped to play the folksy former vice presidential candidate in an HBO Films adaptation of "Game Change," journalists Mark Halperin and John Heilemann's 2010 best-selling book detailing the inner workings of the historic 2008 campaign.

HBO said its film will focus on McCain's losing campaign, including his last-minute pick of the then-little known governor of Alaska as his running mate.

Time Warner is the parent company of CNN and HBO.

Okay, I can understand why an actor would want to play an objectionable, annoying, antagonistic, ignorant character. Sometimes, an exceptionally gifted actor wants to stretch their abilities and see if they can portray individuals no one EVER wants to see on the public stage ever again. I think Ms. Moore will do an excellent job. She's a brilliant actress.

Unfortunately, this brilliant actress is going to portray a nincompoop.

Charlize Theron played a serial killer. Julianne Moore will be playing a serial killer of the English language.

Moore, pretty enough to portray Palin? Palin, interesting enough to be portrayed by Moore? I see a whole list of reasons to NOT watch...but you can definitely tell this is CNN...

Oh I thought this was going to be a remake of "The Wizard of Oz" and Palin was going to play the wicked witch and take Margaret Hamilton's place. Gee that would be more appropriate. She'd have that role down pat.

Well, it shows how politics colors people's perceptions. I'm no fan of Sarah Palin and I greatly admire Julianne Moore's acting ability. But, as a guy, I would say that anyone who thinks Julianne Moore is better looking than Sarah Palin has been smoking some funny stuff.

I think both women are very attractive. But they don't look the least bit alike. Nothing.

The book "Game Change" is fascinating because it has siginificant amount of coverage on how the Obama campaign, the underdog, won the nomination and eventually the presidency and the chaos in the Clinton campaign. Unfortunately, HBO chooses to focus on the McCain campaign, no doubt for the sensationlism of the Palin pick. It'd be interesting to see how true the script will stay with the book and how Sarah Palin will react.

Will Julianne have to practice her hand reading?

Does anyone remember Julianne playing in an episode of "Northern Exposure" back in the early 90's? It was the episode about how the town of Cicely, Alaska got its name!

She'd better be the best actress around, or much easier, get a lobotomy because that's the only other way Moore could play such a vacuous, know-nothing, publicity hound like Failin Palin

Blech! Why are they still continuing giving Palin air time? I wish she'd just go away.

Hope she has enough insurance and a thick skin when Palin will strike out at her, as well as the project.

Surely Ms. Moore is not hurting for acting gigs. Why do something as low-brow as Sarah Palin. Still, if there's anyone who can portray the despicable, mean-spirited, pathetic, dumber-than-a-slug trainwreck that is SP, Moore certainly can.

I love Julianne Moore. She is an amazing actor and will do the character very well. However, this is not going to over very well at all and I hate that Julianne will be in the middle of a whole lot of crap. However she chose this, so this girls got balls. Kudos to her!!
