Boehner: Obama causing energy costs to rise

Washington (CNN) - House Speaker John Boehner said Thursday that the Obama administration is exacerbating rising energy costs and adding an extra financial burden to struggling American families and small businesses.

"The Obama administration has consistently blocked American energy production that would lower costs and create jobs in our country," Boehner said at a press conference announcing a House GOP initiative to push for more domestic energy production.

"They've canceled new leases for exploration, jeopardized our nuclear energy industry, and imposed a de facto moratorium on future drilling in our country. They've even pushed a cap-and-trade energy tax that the president himself admitted would cause the price of energy to skyrocket," Boehner said.

Republicans have repeatedly criticized the administration and congressional Democrats for what they perceive to be a lackluster response to the rapidly rising cost of oil.

But White House Chief of Staff William Daley defended the administration's efforts, telling NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday that President Barack Obama is "extremely concerned" about the price hikes, and that all options - including tapping into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve - are being discussed.

A White House official told CNN late Thursday that Obama will hold a news conference at 11:15 am on Friday to discuss rising gas prices and other issues.

Republicans won't use the strategic reserves. Such hipocrites! The only thing making the price of oil go up is Big oil and speculators. Aside from that, if republicans had accepted any green energy alternatives in the past 12 years, maybe we wouldn't be so subjugated to these fluctuations. The real issue is why don't we have a national energy policy. Why are we still using oil for everything? Why can't the car companies use the tech they have give 100mpg cars? MONEY. Republicans bought and paid for, by default, by you and I!

Really? You're aiming wrong, Bonehead. Don't you remember when the gas prices went up to $5 after Katrina during Bush's regime? Don't you remember how these prices have NEVER come down for YEARS after Katrina? Blame Bush.

Here we go with the CAMPAIGN for OIL time1!! Same as yesteryear but only several years later. Gas has been going up for months. NO ONE cared nor mentioned it. Now that CAMPAIGN season began – we're going to be DRENCHED with the same nonsense we went through in 2008!!!

All of a sudden – it's President Obama's fault – not the UNREST in Africa!!!

[President Barack Obama is "extremely concerned" about the price hikes, and that all options – including tapping into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve – are being discussed.]

This is the same thing that happened in the seventies and then all of a sudden – gas prices FELL like a ROCKET!!!! Even though we were told there was a "gas shortage" – was it really??? It's all part of a GAME and everyone – including the so-called RIGHTeous Right – is playing it!!! So Boehner – shut up!!

American taxpayers are done with subsidizing oil companies with $20 Billion every year from the middle class....
that is not capitalism; its corporate socialism......
hydrogen cars are ready..... screw the oil companies if they are not ready for the change....
America needs to move ahead without the oil companies that are stuck on yesterday's technology and dwindling oil supplies.....

Soooooo Bush, Clinton, Reagan and Carter did too? Boehner the American people don't want any of your lies....Pass the President's "speculation" bill that's been sitting in the Congress since January. The Wall Street "speculators" has about a $20.00 per barrel attachment to the high oil prices. Whenever, there's uprising in the Middle East, haven't we been told for Decades that that is when we feel the prices go up. Stop blocking this country's innovation to alternative fuels now! I know that the "special interest" of the republicvan party will feel it in their pockets and THAT is NOT what the GOP wants.

This is from a guy who paints his hair on and travels with a tanning booth? The GOP is full of dung, it is amazing that theysay these things. Do they watch TV and listen to this? The whole reason the economy is in the dumps is because of GEORGE W BUSH....he got us into two wars for no reason...and all that money could have been used for America and can the GOP say that Obama is causing the oil prices rising? How about admitting that they screwed this country for 8 years and we are paying for it now...I watched moron Hannity tonight...what a self serving pompous ass...he is that smart ass kid in the back of the class who thought he knew everything...I had to change the channel though, he had Palin the idiot on...that woman is sick...she actually thinks someone listens to her prattle? SICK!

Oh Please, the recent rise in gas prices seems to be linked to the troubles in Libya, and it's pretty clear this is a temporary problem.

His helpers in Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, and soon to be Florida will create lots of jobs for Lawyers that are fighting to save all the recalls that will follow this first three months that they have been the Majority. Have fun 2012 will put all of you in the back of the bus.

This is the kinkd of foolishness that people like him continue to tell the people of this country as if we do not know any better. This man is slow on his feet and can only perpetuate divisiveness when in comes to politics. He has yet to come up with a sound position that will solve our existing problems. What a waste of the tax payers money.

the reason gas prices are so high Is the Republican are letting big Oil company rise the prices so they can make more money. Because the country In the Middle East that having the trouble In America don't get less than 10% from these country. And the Republican and big oil company know If you want to drive you will buy It. The Republican are going to put America back In a recession. And they are trying to blame President Obama, All Is just another republican Lie.

Boehner is full of it. The rising cost of energy is driven by recent events in the Mideast. Stop with the political games and get to work on solutions. While I disagree with Sen. Chambliss political leanings, I must admit he is one Republican demonstrating true leadership by working with Sen. Warner to find reasonable solutions to our deficit issue. Boehner may want to look at them to see what true leadership is about!

Republicans and Democrats have both had plenty of opportunity to come up with an energy policy, but failed to do so. Mr Boener needs to replace his head in the dark place it normally resides.

Boehner should have taken some energy courses instead of going to charm school. He would have learned that you could drill to the ends of the earth and you will still have a supply problem with our addiction to oil and the costs will not go down. The only solution to high oil prices is alternative energy and that it Obamas focus, much like many other countries that have educated themselves in the energy industry.Republicans love to spread lies and fear in hopes we all forget they have yet to create a job like they promised. Ask any expert and they will tell you that we can't drill ourselves out of the high cost and addiction to oil.

While we're at it, why don't we blame him for Santa Claus not being real. Maybe we can get away with making him the excuse for cheating on your boyfriend/girlfriend at a party too! Perhaps it would be alright to blame him for everything the GOP is doing wrong too! Wait, that's already happening!

I have notice the GOP seem to forget where this problem started. They never came out to speak when they held the white house, why are they so two faced .

Well, if Boehner would increase the funding for energy R&D, we'd worry less about this. We need to get off the fossil fuels that would be coming out of the gulf anyhow. It is a finite resource which polutes our world. We can't let China and India beat us to renewables and advances in fission and fusion reactors.

Politics is causing energy costs to rise. Gas prices will continue to rise until the 2012 election. It's in the oil and natural gas industries best interest to burden voters so they will be more easily manipulated. Frankly, I don't know if Democrats stand a chance anymore. They support the people, democracy, justice, equal protection, due process, fair pay, safe working conditions, environmental stewardship.... The GOP supports industry and industry has all the money. The GOP has divided this country on race, religion, and economic class. They have employed fear and prejudice to manipulate Americans into relinquishing their liberty; allowing unconstitutional detentions and wiretapping without judicial review. This is something I would never have believed Americans would allow. It's painful to witness the loss of liberty and how easily our people have surrender their freedom. Divide and conquer. That's what the GOP has achieved.

and Boehner is less concerned with energy, and more concerned about denying a group of taxpaying American citizens their equal rights! he is a bigot, and a fraud. Jobs first, Mr. Boehner? Yeah, right!
