White House conference tackles bullying

(CNN) - President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will host the first-ever White House Conference on Bullying Prevention Thursday.

"For a long time bullying was treated as an unavoidable part of growing up but more and more we're seeing how harmful it can be for our kids, especially when it follows them from their school to their phone to their computer screen," the president said in a video promoting the event.

A very good idea. They should also include cyber-bullying.
As a graduate of NY's Stuyvesant High School, I am completely shocked by the video, posted by some foolish students, that lashed out against blacks and jews. If this is occurring at an elite high school, heaven only knows what's occurring in other places.

It's interesting to see this point of view. I can't say fore sure if I agree or not, but it is something I will think about now.

Bullying? You mean like the ultra-wealthy and corporations spending billions on advertisements and lobbying and campaign donations and using their Citizens United power to force our government to give them $120B+ in tax breaks, deductions, loopholes, etc., over the next 2 years and then turn around and tell the middle-class that they have to tighten their belts, take wage reductions and decreases in benefits to the tune of $60B per year in order to pay for those inequitable benefits, make the budget deficit go away and avoid raising atxes on the ultra-rich and corporations even though they are at the lowest levels in 60 years? Golly gee...would be nice for Obama to finally take the bully pulpit on that. It appears that bullying isn't just an unavoidable part of growing up...it's also an unavoidable part of the rest of your life while your soul grows dead.

I am sure Sarah Palin is pleased that Pres. Obama is speaking out against Kathy Griffin, after Griffin bullied her children. I have to wonder why Mrs. Palin was mocked for doing exactly what Pres. Obama has just done.
