Nashua, New Hampshire (CNN) – In a surprise clash of conservative activists versus liberal activists, advocates for the president's global AIDS plan crashed Rep. Michele Bachmann's carefully choreographed speech to a gathering of New Hampshire Republicans.
As the Minnesota lawmaker spoke to the GOP state committee on Saturday in Nashua, a line of liberal activists burst into a chant and waved signs that read, "Michele Bachmann, We Insist! End AIDS treatment waiting lists."
The activists were incensed at proposed budget cuts to PEPFAR, the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief.
As they attempted to circle the room, getting closer to the platform where the congresswoman was speaking, conservatives in attendance sprang into action – booing, shouting down the activists and ushering them out of the room.
After they were ousted, Bachmann lashed out at them.
"They just brought the buses in from Madison, Wisconsin," the congresswoman said, an apparent reference to recent protests over bargaining rights of most Wisconsin state workers.
"Get ready, we're seeing this kind of response because the left knows that we're coming," Bachmann said over loud applause.
"And we're serious about 2012. We're serious. Bring it on. We're ready for you!"
The melee followed a question-and-answer exchange on the subject earlier Saturday in Manchester. As Bachmann spoke to a crowd gathered at a school, one questioner ripped into the plan to cut PEPFAR funding.
"That could result in over a million deaths due to AIDS alone," the questioner claimed. "It is not who we are, to cut this funding. So I'm wondering, if you will agree, to make sure that we have this funding."
Bachmann responded, thanking the young woman for her compassion on the subject. But Bachmann also said that the issue involves serious choices.
"The United States is the most generous nation on earth. We have to have a balancing act between our benevolence and our prosperity. And our prosperity today is at risk," Bachmann said.
"We will not survive if our benevolence allows the treasury to not only be empty – but to have us be a debtor nation greater than we have ever been before," she added.
Let them eat cake !
Bravi, liberal activists!
Bravissimi!
Bash Bachmann's sexual bigotry!
Bachmann is one of the reasons politicians have such bad reputations. She knows nothing, cares about nothing but herself and her narrow-minded, extreme right ideology. She is an embarrassment to women everywhere and to America.
Bachmann, Palin, ignorance, how can we tell where one begins and the other ends without a scorecard? This is one comedy club that requires attention to detail
Yes Ms. Bachmann. I agree. We are a debtor nation and can no longer afford what took time to create as would help the public interest in many areas. We the People will continue to pick up the tab of trickle-up wealth redistribution because the RNC and Republican Conservative-backed policies preserve corporate welfare, offshore non-taxable accounts, oil industry subsidies, etc. We ARE dumb and quiet enough to go along and vote accordingly.
1. America is not the most generous nation on earth. Other countries regularly donate more money to foreign aid than the US.
2. Our international aid is a drop in the bucket. Once again the republicans are cutting from the part of the budget that won't affect big businesses but will affect ordinary people. Instead of cutting services that affect ordinary people, the republicans shouldn't have given that money to the rich.
I am glad to see liberals following James Madison's advice on faction. (Federalists paper #10) The only truly American way to defeat the Tea Party is to form an alternative faction. You and I both know the Tea Party is full of bovine excrement. The best course of action is to quit complaining about them and their corporate funding, get off your butt and take action.
Well done, keep up the good work.
How about raising taxes a little teensey weensey bit to raise revenue, Michelle. Ever think of that?
The above picture confirms what I've suspected, Bachmann is a druggie. She should check with Palin on the death panel angle before sliding into a debate on removing funds for AIDs sufferers. How would they stumble on the new definition of death panels if they refuse AIDS patients medical care?
The right is coming? It's the right that should worry, because the left has woken up.
It seems the only prosperity that's not at risk today are the rich in America.
How can the American voter be so stupid to elect this kind of idiot to represent them! I just came from joining 150,000 or more protesters in Madison. I wish Bachmann could have seen us, since she made the Madison comment, in the cold and wind. We would have told her what we thought of her ignorance!
There is only one conclusion to be drawn here; LIBERALS ARE SELFISH IDIOTS! If any Liberal group is so passionate over an issue.......do like Conservatives do, reach into your own pocket and GIVE! All Liberal Democrats know is "have the government pay for it".....never understanding 2 very important facts: 1. We, the tax-payer, are the "Who" is paying and
2. Right now, WE ARE BROKE!
And when are the conservatives going to call for us to support the protesters being suppressed in Saudi Arabia. Universal Rights, ya know. Especially Women's Rights. Real important.
Except when it might interfere with our oil supply.
Granted, dems and repugs scream about 'Universal Rights', but there is no such thing. Even here in America we are loosing rights we once took for granted.
The picture of Ms. Bachmann is worth a thousand words. It is very interesting that when her supporters and the TEA Party members crashed moderate and liberal meetings, she was very pleased as she thought they were expressing their displeasure with the middle and left.
Ms.Bachmann must know that many Americans do not support her agenda because of the way she speaks and refers to others. Her pejorative statements are not impressive. Those of us who have remained on the sidelines may become a little more active now. The strong anti feelings brewing in the country are giving those on the right who are on the fringe more of a platform. They would take away rights and privileges because they do not support them. They are suing the Constitution to support their views even though the Constitution was not written in their favor. Not all of us are conservative Christians but we are loyal, caring and proud Americans. We want to live in harmony in a country that supports many views, but I am afraid the Conservatives like Ms. Bachmann will not allow us do so.
Oh dear you mean this Christian woman, who talks to God and gets direction from Him. You mean the one who is denying children and pregnant women health care. The very Christian woman who collects hundreds of thousands of dollars for her family and for her so called Christian school denies money to the poor to pay for heat. Oh dear I think she's talking to Satan and the next time you all see her see where she has that forked tail and horns hidden
Amazing the tea party talked about death panels during the Heathcare reform debate which didn't exist by the way but now Michelle Bachman and the Tea Party are willing to accept a million people dying of aids in the name of the deficit. What a hypocrite!!!!
Good for the activists!!! It's not only the "left" that dislikes your policies, Michelle, but also the "middle of the road" like myself dislike your policies.
Who is going to be the "Republican sacrificial lamb" in 2012? For pure entertainment, I would like to see Palin and Bachmann run together, not knowing which one will be president, or vice-president until after the election. Let them have a mud fight to decide the winner, or a helicopter hunting competition.
i say bring bachmann on in 2012! please, please, please bring her on in 2012. i don't want to see Obama have to make even a small effort to go back to the white house for another 4 years. GO OMAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Republicans continue to enjoy preaching to the choir. Their idea of a "town hall" meeting means a hall full of narrow-minded, bigoted, Christian, white people. You never have to answer the tough questions if the events are scripted and attended by people with the same right-wing agenda. Unfortunately, governing our country isn't a series of sound bites and one-liners attacking working-class Americans.
These moonbat anarchists have no class, no manners, and certainly no viable ideas! The whipping in 2012 will be bigger than the butt-whipping they took in November!
If you want to see the country go up in flame, elect a Bachman or Palin for president.
Bachman for 2012 republican nominee!!! (It will be a cake walk for Obama to beat that witch)
Typical of the GOP to see past real human beings and suffering in favor of GREED and MONEY!
