'I'm through,' Palin says

(CNN) - Sarah Palin says she's done.

Done with whining about the media, that is.

In an appearance on Fox News, where she serves as a contributor, Palin shrugged off a recent sexual slur directed her way from comedian Bill Maher, saying, "I'm through whining about a liberal press that holds particularly conservative women to a different standard, because it doesn't do any good to whine about it."

"Nobody ever promised life was going to be fair," Palin continued in what appeared to be a departure from her usual pattern of forcefully responding to critics, especially those in the media. "And politics really isn't fair, the scrutiny, the double standards, and all that. I'm dealing with it I guess in a different way than others who want to bring more light to it and demand that Bill Maher apologize."

The comments come a day after the traditionally-liberal National Organization for Women issued a statement condemning Maher for directing the slur toward Palin, saying, "Cut the crap! Stop degrading women with whom you disagree and/or don't like by using female body terms or other gender-associated slurs."

But Palin made clear she is none too welcome of newfound support from NOW, an organization that has long been critical of Palin and her stances on issues like abortion.

"I need NOW's defense like a fish needs a bicycle," the former Alaska governor said.

But she also vowed to be an advocate for other conservative women who come under attack.

"When it comes to other women, when it comes to my daughters…when somebody says something that's not true, I am not going to retreat on that. I'll reload and tell them what I think about them," she said.

Meanwhile, Palin says the door remains open to a possible presidential run in 2012, though quickly tempered those comments by saying, "You don't need a title, you don't need an office to make a difference." Still, the Alaska Republican says she's tempted:

"I am tempted to because I am still wondering who is going to be out there with a servant's heart, willing to serve the American people for the right reason. Not for ego, not for special interests…I am waiting to see, who else is out there willing to do this."

The former vice presidential candidate also directed fire toward President Obama's recent dealings with the crisis in Libya, suggesting the president has not made his mission there clear.

"We better be in it to win it. 'Win it' means Qadhafi goes and America gets to get on out of there," she said.

"It's not America's role not to be out and about nation building and telling other countries how to live," Palin added.

The interview with FOX follows a two country trip abroad, during which she visited India and Israel.

Go Sarah, there are still a lot of people pulling for you. The liberal/progressive/socialist crowd and media are shooting themselves in the foot. We need as many voices for conservative values as we can get.

Dern. By the headline, I thought she'd finally realized that she's out of her league, and might be taking Barbara Bush's advice and get on out of the lower 48. Off the subject, but now it looks like Michelle Bachman was told she could be a contender for prez since she walks and breaths and, like with Palin, we have to endure another C student with visions of grandeur thinking she can be the leader of the free world. We squandered our recent best opportunity to elect our first qualified woman president with Hillary Clinton, make no mistake. It will be years before there is another woman with vast enough knowledge and experience to get it done. Unless "qualified" doesn't count anymore.

Bill Maher is a comedian, not the liberal media. On the other hand, Fox News and their commentators are almost funny.

when somebody says something that's not true???

That pretty much sums her up in one sentence.

And she stopped whining about the media by..... whining about the media?

Her whole statement about being done whining about the media is just more whining. And why would she give up her favorite activity?
Still with the "reload" rhetoric? Wow.

Come on CNN, stop using these suggestive headlines and then changing the context.
What's next, a headline called 'Sarah Palin Shot and Killed!...... a moose." ?

""It's not America's role not to be out and about nation building and telling other countries how to live," Palin added."
Is that a double negative or just another totally empty statement ... or a typo?

What a misleading headline. I expect this from 3rd rate content scraper sites, but that's not why I come to CNN.com. I don't like wasting my time. Please don't trivialize your site like this.

Palin would do well to realize that Republicans don't need her as a presidential candidate, and realistically accept that she would not be a good president.
Her gifts will serve her better somewhere other than in the Oval Office.
They certainly will serve her country better somewhere else.

Now where in presidential campaign mode now. She needs media outlets to have her on and talk about issues and not the fact that she just bashed that outlet yesterday. Not saying she is going to win but she is going to run and this is her first step.

She is whining when she lists the various offenses the Fourth Estate has apparently inflicted on her. Her damage is self- inflicted, yet again. She talks about a double-standard: what about the one she exercises ever day, along with every other conservative who plays the victim card? Conservatives truly feel they are beyond criticism, and they attack and smear anyone who runs counter to their paranoid, blinkered, backward-looking vision of what the country is. Bill Maher went way over the line, but he has a point: no one on the Right has said " Stop the idiotic attacks on the President: stop calling him a monkey, a terrorist, a Marxist, a Communist, a Socialist, stop asking him to produce a birth certificate, etc. " People are sick of it: does the GOP really expect enough independents will be swayed by these distractions to put any of their candidates in the White House?

For a woman who has made repeated comments directed to males and their body parts, I find it interesting that Palin objects when its directed to her.
She remains a very special kind of stupid.

Damn! Another misleading header! Notice how she still slams the "Lamestream Media" for a supposed double standard. So much for actually being through.

So this woman with a servant's heart is only going to defend conservative women and her daughters...what a telling statement on so many levels...1) US is not made up of only conservative women...does not the POTUS represent and serve all Americans 2) Even if she doesn't run for president, she is showing that she only believes that there is a certain population in her 'sights' whom she deems worthy of 'serving.' Now what group might that be...I am willing to bet that group doesn't include Women of Color.

Last night Sarah addressed the republican base in Naples, FL. You know, those are the millionaires who have been least affected by the Bush/republican near depression. One thousand people paid a thousand dollars to listen to the queen of word salad. I am sure she gave them enough treasonous remarks to last a full day.

What a disapointment. She's a quitter & I thought she'd given up. I remember a former president who constantly griped abput the press who had labeled him "Tricky Dickly." Two of the same ilk???
