How the 'Obama doctrine' compares to predecessors

Washington (CNN) - U.S. presidents throughout modern history have developed their own foreign policy doctrines as conflicts around the world tested their leadership.

President James Monroe was the first to articulate a particular doctrine when in his 1823 message to Congress he warned European powers to stay out of affairs in the Western Hemisphere.

How it compares? It's all made-up BS by the "news" media that any one of these "doctrines" even exists in the first place...ergo, they are all the same on a very basic level. It's the essence of branding....and if you don't get that, go take a marketing course.

Hopefully, we have seen the end of Cowboy Diplomacy and the Bush Doctrine. Although it would be interesting to see what the Michelle Bachmann Doctrine would be.

The only reason that US force is being used is to protect the petroleum interests of the Europeans. The Europeans and the rest of NATO do not have the capabilities that the US has for enforcing a no-fly zone – Navy Air Arm. That is the only reason that the Europeans were front and center almost immediately when the conflagaration erupted uncontrollably. And now that we know there are Al Qaeda links with the rebels and the Muslim Brotherhood is insinuating itself with the rebels; how near are we to coordinating actions with the rebels, AQIL & MBIL as well as probably arming of that group? Do ya think AQ is going to backoff against the US any time soon?

If this nation fail to assist to save the lives in Libya God will judge the U.S.A.
Do you think this nation came into being and reach the pinnacle of power and wealth on it's own power?
Should we fail to apply the following verse this nation will pay a great price!

"He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly, and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. " Micah 6:8

Most US President's have found it desirable to take the position that the US should "take care of" the rest of the planet's, conflicts.

That was then, before we became so broke, we have to borrow from China, to fund our wars. Npw, it is just a stupid approach, and Obama was stupid to be sucked into it.

1823 was almost 200 years ago.
    Monroe didn't have a Blackberry.
It's a good thing that we're not in Libya alone, and Obama has handled this hot spot well, in spite of other issues where I can still find disagreement with him.
Using an 1823 doctrine in 2011 makes about as much sense as living by a tome of religious myths, philosophical wisdom, and dietary laws in an era with refrigeration.

President Obama should be applauded for his doctrine and we should suppport him. Anytime you can take on a mission of this magnitude without putting our troops in harms way I think is admiral . The arms strike is effective and the way to go in the 21st century.

The naysayers and critics on Capital Hill never have anything positive to say about this President so Americans are getting use to it. He does have the public on his side and gave a terrific speech.

    hill as usual.

Since 1823 we have freed the slaves in America, ridden in motorcars, traveled to the moon, and developed nuclear energy.
    Times change.

[Critics have lambasted the president for not spelling out the mission in clear terms or consulting Congress before deploying the military.]

I am sure there were critics and backlash towards EVERY president mentioned but yet it was ONLY spoken about in President Obama's story!!!!

The more you read from ANY media network – the more you see how they SET THE STAGE and AGENDA to what they want the reader to believe – God help the reader that cannot comprehend and realize the difference!!!

Instead of "Obama Doctrine" don't you mean "Obama world view" as mensa member Sarah Palin pointed out.

Except for Clinton, Obama is the only President to utilise American troops without WINNING being the primary objective! BTW, what is our objective in Libya again? I watched the President's speech last night and somehow I missed that part!

I Obama's foriegn policy is direct yet no dictatorial as we saw with the bush administration. Obama wants to be seen as acting not on his own but with the consent of his own administration and allies.
