Obama rolls out plan to cut oil imports

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama outlined a plan Wednesday to cut America's imports of foreign oil by a third by 2025 - a response to growing global energy demands and instability overseas.

The president's proposal relies primarily on increased domestic production, conservation, and a shift to biofuels and natural gas.

Queue Republican hissy fit in 3...2...1...

Actually, I can pretty much post that underneath any article about Obama. It doesn't really matter what he does, says or accomplishes and it certainly doesn't matter what the facts, empirical evidence, historical record, etc., say. The right is simply going to disagree, yell and scream, engage in psychotic rationalizations, lie and spread misinformation/misrepresentations and, generally, act liek a 4 year old told that he gets no desert unless he finishes his brussel sprouts....except for the GOP, it's crow, and piles and piles of it....it's hard for them to swallow that reality has, in fairly uncertain terms, told them that it has weighed their ideology and found it wanting.

"There are no quick fixes," he warned. America "will keep on being a victim to shifts in the oil market until we get serious about a long-term policy for secure, affordable energy."

That comment alone ought to bring out the lobbyists full blast. Can't wait to read the responses. Now would be a good time to remind everyone that the newly elected GOPers recently voted AGAINST cutting off public tax subsidies to Big Oil (for all you taxpayers complaining how much tax you pay, well, there it is, Big Oil gets a really, really big chunk of your taxes, and, it seems, will continue to do so - thanks to the Republican Party). Google for yourselves how much they each pay IN to the Government for tax revenue. Who knows what you might end up learning.

Use solar and wind energy and take the wealth out of the hands of the oil barons, gluts and the repugs. Right on.

You really can't make this stuff up in the press. But Obama can make it up on the fly. Talk to him next week and he'll have a different view. Nothings changed in the past two years, why the 180 degree turnaround? Oh yeah, poll numbers.

  6. Yikes!

Obama is right on with his assessment and solutions! The Republicans are just back to "drill baby drill", no other solutions. I guess if we made oil companies free from taxes, environmental regulations and other safety restrictions all of our oil problems would be over. NOT!
