Meghan McCain expects HBO movie to 'crucify' her family, Palin

Washington (CNN) – Add Meghan McCain to the list of those who are not looking forward to HBO's upcoming adaptation of "Game Change" - the 2009 book by journalists John Heilemann and Mark Halperin that provided an inside look into the last presidential race.

In her regular column Friday for the website The Daily Beast, McCain suggests she found the book itself reviling and says she expects the movie to "crucify" her family and Sarah Palin.

"I expect my family and Sarah Palin to be nothing short of crucified," the McCain daughter writes. "Another election is nearing and President Obama has publicly fallen from his stature as an infallible saint. It is in everyone's best interest to exaggerate and manifest things that didn't happen."

Meghan McCain has long taken issue with the best-selling book, insisting many of the behind-the-scenes stories of her father's failed presidential bid are either exaggerated or downright made up.
The movie is expected to focus on the book's largely-negative portrayal of the McCain campaign, especially the reportedly hasty decision to pick then-Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as the vice presidential nominee.

John McCain himself also made clear earlier this week he has no intention of watching upcoming adaptation, in which actor Ed Harris will star as the Arizona Republican.

"He's a very fine actor and a great actor," McCain said during an appearance on Fox News Sunday of Harris. "I obviously haven't read the book, so I don't think I'll be watching the film."
In addition to Harris, actress Julianne Moore will play the role of Sarah Palin and Woody Harrelson will depict McCain's campaign manager, Steve Schmidt.

HBO is owned by Time Warner, CNN's parent company.

You get two liberal Obozo lovers to write a book about the competition's campaign, and you expect it to be accurate? Are you nuts? Just another liberally-biased effort to help Obozo spend four more years ruining America. Don't be surprised if it bombs on HBO.

    Hey ConservaFascists you said,
I hope the movie does crucify the McCain campaign. They played a dirty game of politics and I hope the movie depicts that.

And you have facts??? It was Obama who played bait and switch....I won't take private funding..and he turned around and did to the tune of millions.

During the campaign, when her dad referred to his wife with the "C word" she might have realized the family had issues. When her dad agreed to run with Sarah Palin, a person he most certainly knew to be a ridiculous choice for Vice President of the United States, he turned his campaign into a circus. Now the circus continues as the GOP marches out new clowns every day. The McCain family is simply caught up in the comedy they helped create.

Anyone who's actually read the book knows that just about everyone in it, Obama included, looks pretty silly.

This is what liberals live for. They have to put down their opponents and do it even in a lying way. It's in their DNA.

McCain didn't lose the election by selecting Palin. VP selections rarely influence voters. McCain lost the election when in the midst of the 2008 economic meltdown he stupidly said that "The fundamentals of the economy remain strong." He had made it very clear that he had very little economic experience and really needed to bone up on the economy. He was running on the record of W as a cowboy. He clearly did not understand that the mood of the electorate had soured to war.

First of all "Anonymous" Bill Maher is SMART .. you wouldn't know what that is because you are IGNORANT.
not insulting you .... You are just not bright enough to understand complex issues.

Second , the word Crucify is very interesting ... by using that word it seems she is admitting that everything in the book (about her family) is TRUE !
quite a telling statement in my view.

Did anyone see the movie W? They portrayed Bush as a drunken fool. However, since everyone knows the context and the views of he left, it was Hollywood that came of foolish. The same will happen in this film.

Uh, yeah. How 'bout 'no one exercising critical thinking takes another's word for the quality of television programs, the quality of the participants, or the qualities of a Presidential candidate?' "Critical thinking" rather strongly suggests individual assessment, rather than the acceptance of opinions expressed on a thread.

Wow, so you don't want the truth out there...kinda of Fox-like huh? I bet you loved it when your garbage father was talking about "gooks" and giving people "id cards"..idiot. McCain is not fit to lead a nation and you're a real winner yourself as well..

Sorry, dear, but the hatchet job was already done. Self inflicted, at that! When daddy dearest chose Sarah, the village idiot, as his running mate, he lost what small credibility he had left.
And to give you a hint, because of her and the tea party, I've changed parties, after over 32 years of being a republican.
Sorry, kid. But, after many years as a medic in the military, I have zero tolerance or pity for those who have self-inflicted wounds.

It really is Palin's fault that McCain lost the election......well it would be McCain's fault since he chose Palin. I feel bad for McCain, all these left-wing liberal turds keep thinking that all Republicans are the same. GW Bush and McCain are quite different in their policies, check em out sometime Liberals. I'm firing it right back at you hippies. All Democrats are small and private business hating (which equals hard working as opposed to government employees laziness work straight 9-4), hand out loving, tree hugging, bongo playing crybabies.

    I am the law.

I have nothing against McCain. He chose poorly in the running mate department, but his campaign was far from the dirtiest in American history. Some of you seem to hate the man for daring to run for president., that's not right. I support the right of anyone to run for any office that they are constitutionally qualified for. Doesn't mean I would vote for that person though.

@johnRJ08: I certainly agree with your assessment – I do not, however, feel at all comfortable assuming that I know what a majority of Americans think. A fine point, to be sure – but an important one in my opinion.

Anybody in politics or in the public eye in any form leaves themselves open to criticism, ridicule, or even praise. The media can't make a profit unless it embelishes or makes controversy because people don't want to see something wishy-washy, gee, just watch Fox news. They're masters of exaggeration and inuendo and quite frankly your father and Sarah Palin are also masters of being extremely loose with the truth as well.

My dear, your old man blew it by choosing the Alaskan NuT, not that he is better than her. . .

@ Dan J – If this (your perception of media bias) is the deciding factor that will push you in one direction or another I think that you are perfectly cut out to join the GOP. Good luck.

Prior to the campaign I had respect for McCain. Bit by bit he sold his soul through those clenched teeth. He had the fortitude to withstand the worst abuses in Vietnam, but the lure of power and blind ambition defeated him. For decades you sensed he said what he believed and in 2008 he tossed that and with it any trust he had with voters.

Ever notice how many more damaging movies are produced about the GOP than Democratic party? So much evidence and the GOP makes it SO easy. A new movie could be made every week. When's the Fox News movie coming out? There certainly wouldn't need to be any exaggerations of made up stuff in that one.

    April 1, 2011 01:42 pm at 1:42 pm |

The book was written by two individuals intimately involved in the campaign, and I'm sure they saw a lot more of the real "behind the scenes" stuff that Ms. McCain did not – especially as it pertains to the quitta from Wasilla Failin'Palin. John McCain needs to apologize to the country for unleashing that narcissistic, whining, harpy on us!

If you don't like the story of your life, do something about it and make better decisions. Turning the 2008 presidential race into a circus was the result of the terrible decision making of John McCain. Letting Sarah Palin and family make asses of themselves, was a combination of McCain's poor choices and the Palin family natural attributes. To complain about the movie is just shooting the messenger.

How does McCain know all of the stories are lies or exaggerations? Was she with her father 24 hours a day? Or did she hear them from Sarah Palin, whom we know lies?
