Senators expect budget deal to avoid government shutdown

Washington (CNN) - Top senators said Sunday that they believe Congress will reach a deal to avoid a government shutdown this week, but there was little consensus on two larger budget battles looming in coming months.

Negotiations on federal spending for the rest of the current fiscal year, which ends September 30, have agreed on a target figure for a compromise on cuts. Now the question is whether they can work out exactly what programs should get axed.

Don't count on it long as the Baggers run things in the GOP (and they do), they don't care about anything but getting their wish, and everyone else be da#ned. If that means a shutdown, they're fine with that. Too bad they are completely out of touch and the recent poll numbers reflect that. People are finally coming around to realize these fanatics don't care about anything but themselves

Government shutdown yes I will go with that if we shutdown DC for two years we will be in good position
I am tired of hearing the word “we can’t come to deal”
Republicans should consider tea party represent small percentage and their popularity is going down (recent poll)
Democrats should understand we need some cuts it is a tough choice they have to make it

Why is it that it has to be in the last minute that they “might” have a deal? Would it not be much more responsible to find the best solutions instead of all this bickering? However, that would take real work instead of sitting in the tanning booth or playing golf. I guess the GOP/TP does not want to be blamed with closing down the Government after all. Perhaps they remember that the American public was not so thrilled about that last time they did it.

@Al-NY,NY, I agree with you and hope you're right about people finally coming around. After what we did to ourselves in November, I'm not so sure.
