Unfair slam from Gingrich?

Washington (CNN) – When Newt Gingrich warned a New Hampshire crowd Monday night that President Obama was trying to "extort contributions" from supporters by announcing his reelection bid so early, it might just have been a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

After all, the former House Speaker, for better or worse, has long been recognized as among the most aggressive and successful fundraisers in the Republican Party. In 2010, he raised close to $15 million through his various organizations and political action committees, a sum that far outpaced that of any other potential GOP presidential candidate.

Indeed, if Gingrich and the president have anything it common, it is that they both know how to raise money – a lot of it.

Gingrich on Monday told a gathering at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics that Obama was going to "use his office to extort contributions on a scale we've never seen before," adding that "he's in effect trying to create a Chicago style machine for the whole country with a billion dollars."

To be sure, the president's reelection timing Monday was certainly all about money. As CNN reported, it's no coincidence the president filed papers with the Federal Election Commission (a move that legally allows him to raise campaign money) four days after the start of the year's second quarter.

When you add to that the fact that the president's team has already scheduled a string of fundraising events over the next two months, it becomes clear the Obama money-making machine that raised nearly $750 million in the 2008 cycle is back in full swing.

But there's every indication that Gingrich, who formed an exploratory committee sooner than most every other GOP presidential candidate, has the same fundraising philosophy as Obama: the earlier the better.

And, as the Washington Post reported in February, the vast fundraising groundwork Gingrich has been constructing over the last several years instantly makes him the fundraising powerhouse in the GOP presidential race.

There's no doubt few Republicans will be able to match the president's fundraising machine, but Gingrich just might.

A spokesman for Gingrich did not respond to CNN on the issue.

Newt should not even run for the presidency an will never make for someone who has been impeached as house speaker. He is a disgrace to the political machine of these country, who is a bigot, a war monger and who insinuates divisions in the political spectrum. He has the nerve to accuse the president for his ability to raise money. He has already called our president so many names and it about time he shuts his mouth and retire from politics. The public has no need for him and his shenanigans.

Newt is saying that Obama will exploit the office and power he has to get $. I am sure that reputable organizations like SEIU and Acorn will perform the shakedowns and illegal collection activities necessary to bilk $ from people. It is estimated Obama will solicit up to 1Billion $ for this. I wonder if his campaign funding will be audited-not likely since Geppner runs the Treasury and Holder "looks out" for his people. I don't know why he needs to solicit much funding anyway-he will issue an executive order for illegals to become Americans (as long as they vote for him). OR he will let illegals vote and count their votes in another late night closed session with Reid, Pelosi and Holder which is OK because anyone who objects is racist and discriminates. This will occur if Obama is not too busy with parties at the white house or golfing. Well it really does not matter with Obama anyway. He does not keep his promises...close GITMO, try the Sheik in NYC, bring back the Armed Forces from Iraq/Afganistan. Instead we are in another war, gas is at $4, the cost of food is skyrocketing, the housing market is a mess (20% of homes are vacant), the economy sucks. Why are we voting for him again?

He and the GOP would know extortion best. A corporation threatens to relocate American jobs overseas unless they get a tax break. The GOP pushes and passes such a tax break. The corporation then moves the jobs out of the US anyway.

Some people will hear this comment, and realize it sounds familiar. Like something they have heard before, like there must be some grain of truth to this remark.

Some will actually make the connection to Bachman's "gangster" comment. Most of this group will conclude that both comments were accurate.

Our Campaigner-in-Chief has for the last 2 years shown no signs of leadership or balls. His only goal is to be "King" for another 6 years. He has broken almost every promise he made and has been a lousy president. It's time we voters "make ourselves perfectly clear" and kick him out of office.

More proof of how important my contributions are to President Obama's election fund. America can't survive any more Republican politics. They dedicated themselves to 2 1/2 years of obstructionism and divisiveness, it's time to call a halt to this nonsense.

What evidence is there for this statement, Newt, or is this like your view of history, subjective and entirely devoid of hard factual evidence? This is like your ' Mau-Mau" comments on Obama's father, which only pointed to your racist support of British imperialism, which I always thought real Americans were against. Its just astonishing the fantasy world the Conservatives live in now, filled with conspiracies and shakedowns and "gangsta" government: why not focus on some real problem solving, the way that Jack Kemp used to? its interesting how much Gingrich and others are willing to overlook their own masters, who are busily pulling the strings with huge amounts of cash at their disposal, cheerfully wrecking the lives of hard-working Americans in order to give their primary shareholders record profits( lets's call them the Koch-heads).

Pathetic, but it what we've come to expect so little from the Right:heaping contempt on the people they know will rise up and beat them again if they don't stop. It won't matter this time, Newt, we're coming for all of you.

Oh wait there is, so shut up Newt, if you weren't such a reprehensibly pathetic liar....you'd just be a liar.
Meanwhile, back at the Palin farm:
"I know that a lot of people are capitalizing on, oh I don't know, perhaps some exploiting that was done via me, my family, my administration –
It was totally unintentional, but she spoke the truth for the FIRST time that I can recall her doing so!
Yes Plain you did A LOT of exploiting of your family, and yourself. What administration are you referring to though, it is not as if you were Governor of anything at that time?!

My goodness, if she were a little bit smarter she'd be ignorant, as it is she's just plain stupid...still.

This is one of the most ridiculous charges the rethugs have made yet, 'extorting' money from 'fat cats?' this pins the needle on the oh, puh-leeeeeeeeeze meter! people give to Obama's campaign because we want to have an intelligent, caring president who cares about all Americans. the 'fat cats' overwhelmingly give to rethugs because that's who cares about them and only theml i love how the rethugs are always trying to pin their own faults on their opponents.

Just politics as usual.......but when the GOP wants to talk cutting the budget deficit, and tacks on tax breaks for the wealthy, as part of the process, that is just totally contradictory.........and should be soundly rejected in the Senate.

This stuff is exactly why no party should ever be in total control of the government.
