Trump sends investigators to Hawaii to look into Obama

Washington (CNN) – Self-proclaimed birther Donald Trump is now so doubtful of President Obama's birthplace that he's sent a team of his own investigators to Hawaii in hopes of getting to the bottom of the issue.

That's according to Trump himself, who, in an interview with NBC, warned his investigators just might uncover "one of the greatest cons in the history of politics and beyond."

"I have people that have been studying it and they cannot believe what they're finding," Trump said an interview that aired Thursday Morning.

Asked if he has assigned people specifically to search in Hawaii, Trump said, "Absolutely."

The business mogul, who in a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal Poll is tied for second place among potential presidential candidates, also suggested the president is involved in an ongoing cover-up over the matter.

"He spent $2 million in legal fees trying on to get away from this issue, and if it weren't an issue, why wouldn't he just solve it?" he said. "I wish he would because if he doesn't, it's one of the greatest scams in the history of politics and in the history, period. You are not allowed to be a president if you're not born in this country. Right now, I have real doubts."

According to a recent CNN/Opinion Research Corporation national poll, 72 percent of Americans say that the president was definitely or probably born in the U.S., with one in four saying that he was definitely or probably born outside the country. But the survey indicates a partisan divide, with 43 percent of Republicans but only 11 percent of Democrats saying that Obama was definitely or probably born outside the U.S.

In 2008, the Obama campaign produced a certification of live birth that reports his birthplace as Honolulu, Hawaii – a document the Hawaii government says is official evidence of his birth in the state. Among other evidence of Obama's birth there is the fact the hospital where he was born took out ads in two Hawaiian newspapers in 1961 announcing the birth, while current Gov. Neil Abercrombie says he knew Obama's family and remembers his birth.

In the broad interview, Trump also insisted he's more serious than ever about mounting a presidential bid, but said he can't make a final decision until this season of "Celebrity Apprentice" wraps up.

"I hate to say it. I have the No. 1 show on NBC. Is that the correct statement? The "Celebrity Apprentice" is doing great," said Trump. "You're not allowed to have a show on and be a candidate. It's a great show and it's got phenomenal ratings, and until that show is over I can't declare, otherwise NBC would have to take the show off the air and that would be very unfair."

The show is set to wrap up in mid-May.

Trump couldn't produce his own birth certificate. Yet , he insist there is something sinister by Obama, the State of Hawaii, the newspapers in that state and even his family that when he was born he would be POTUS so they all forged his real birthplace 50 years ago. Not plausible and Trump's an idiot on par with the other one from Wasilla.

It's official, Trump's a lunatic. I await hearing that he denies ever having sent "investigators" to Hawaii, when they fail to fabricate the "evidence" he's after. If he, Huckabee, Bachmann, Romney, and Gingrich are the best that party has, Obama will mop the floor with any of them in the general election.

Obama the most powerful man in the world.....if he were not born here you don't think he could have a birth certificate made and to look authentic? Give me a break ...you birthers are idiots! You are not going to find anything.....hey Don just send me the money that you are wasting on this investigation so my daughter can pay her student loan....seeing how she can't get a job as a Teacher to pay off her own loan!

Gotta love the side-show this ego-maniac produces on a regular basis! It's amazing that someone so professionally successful can be so out in "left field" all the time...

President Obama was born in Hawaii, period. Lets move to more important issues, jobs, economy? Trump just wants to keep his name in the spotlight.

Good! Forbes Magazine confirmed that Trump is a billionaire, so if Trump and his billions "investigate" this birthing nonsense and find NOTHING, then there will be no more grandstanding on the "issue". If his investigators find unimpeachable evidence that Obama was NOT born in Hawaii, then he will have broken the story of this young century, and also created a constitutional crisis of biblical proportions.

Either way, after THIS nobody will have a basis for grandstanding on the issue, if the evidence is inconclusive.

I'd rather Trump spend millions on investigators to produce Trump's real birth certificate. He has twice produced fake ones.

The birther issue. IT'S WORKING. His poll numbers went up, at least in the polls that he thinks really matter.

You know when you stop and actually think, the entire birther conspiracy is too ridiculous be credible, not even for a cartoon plot. The birther conspiracy theorists are less credible than the ancient alien theorists.

The conspiracy says that his mother ( who as a US citizen gives to a child is also a citizen, BTW ) was in Hawaii after having given birth in an unnamed foreign country. She had false "live birth" documents drawn up. She then planted false stories in the local newspapers. ( Remember, all of this was being done for a kid who would be elected POTUS ) The kid was educated in the best schools, and his education actually stuck in his head. ( Amazing. That explains the ears! ) The young man was allowed to run for public office in Illinois and even serve in the US Senate. Then, he defied all odds, won a major party nomination, and even won the general election. Nostradamus is not that good.

If anyone would know about "one of the greatest cons in the history of politics and beyond.", it would certainly be Trump.

Donald Trump is making very serious accusations and he better be prepared to back them up. He is running his mouth over an issue that has been raised and resolved. This is nothing more than grandstanding in its greatest form, especially from a guy that is not serious about running for President himself. What goes around, comes around. This guy is a sensasionalist genius and all of this is nothing more than a ploy to attract attention to himself and his enterprises. After all he is in showbusiness.

    Really Don?
""I hate to say it. I have the No. 1 show on NBC." .. and .. "It's a great show and it's got phenomenal ratings"
Funny because I just checked the Neilsen Rating for this season and the ONLY 2 NBC shows listed in the Top 20 for this season were "Sunday Night Football" and "Sunday Night NFL pre-Kick".

You wouldn't be exaggerating for personal gain now would you Don?
Just like all this isn't just a publicity stunt???

Please Donald Duck, go take care of your reality show. You are a loser. You will definitely not be president with this foolishness. Now we see that you hate the idea of a black man in the white house also. Hope your show keeps it ratings, but I doubt it with this trick you pulled.

I hope that he wastes some of his millions and finds nothing. He is just trying to pander to the birthers and Tea Party. This guy is so transparent that it is ridiculous. I thought that he might be a good candidate for president because of his business sense but this makes me realize that he is nothing but a opportunist. I will never vote for him. He is a loser with more money than sense.

I am so over The Donald. What a moron. I'm boycotting everything Trump. A "Certificate of Live Birth" is what you get when you order a copy from most states. That's what the State of Kansas Official Copy says for my 2 kids' and what my official copy from the State of Illinois says. Birthers are total, complete, and utter morons. And that means YOU Donald.

Let the hilarity ensue. Go nuts Trumpster. Wait, this proves you already have gone nuts.

Seriously, it's a good ploy for Trump. Keeps his name in the news, he'll follow the tv drama path of letting out hints and innuendoes every week or so about what his "investigation" uncovers, thus keeping his name in the spotlight and chipping away at the president. None of it will be true, but hell, none of the Swiftboat stuff was true either, but it served its purpose.

He just needs to be careful not to put out anything too outlandinsh, lest his already fragile approval rating for politics get completely destroyed by a Geraldoesque Capone's vault scenario.
