Trump sends investigators to Hawaii to look into Obama

Washington (CNN) – Self-proclaimed birther Donald Trump is now so doubtful of President Obama's birthplace that he's sent a team of his own investigators to Hawaii in hopes of getting to the bottom of the issue.

That's according to Trump himself, who, in an interview with NBC, warned his investigators just might uncover "one of the greatest cons in the history of politics and beyond."

"I have people that have been studying it and they cannot believe what they're finding," Trump said an interview that aired Thursday Morning.

Asked if he has assigned people specifically to search in Hawaii, Trump said, "Absolutely."

The business mogul, who in a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal Poll is tied for second place among potential presidential candidates, also suggested the president is involved in an ongoing cover-up over the matter.

"He spent $2 million in legal fees trying on to get away from this issue, and if it weren't an issue, why wouldn't he just solve it?" he said. "I wish he would because if he doesn't, it's one of the greatest scams in the history of politics and in the history, period. You are not allowed to be a president if you're not born in this country. Right now, I have real doubts."

According to a recent CNN/Opinion Research Corporation national poll, 72 percent of Americans say that the president was definitely or probably born in the U.S., with one in four saying that he was definitely or probably born outside the country. But the survey indicates a partisan divide, with 43 percent of Republicans but only 11 percent of Democrats saying that Obama was definitely or probably born outside the U.S.

In 2008, the Obama campaign produced a certification of live birth that reports his birthplace as Honolulu, Hawaii – a document the Hawaii government says is official evidence of his birth in the state. Among other evidence of Obama's birth there is the fact the hospital where he was born took out ads in two Hawaiian newspapers in 1961 announcing the birth, while current Gov. Neil Abercrombie says he knew Obama's family and remembers his birth.

In the broad interview, Trump also insisted he's more serious than ever about mounting a presidential bid, but said he can't make a final decision until this season of "Celebrity Apprentice" wraps up.

"I hate to say it. I have the No. 1 show on NBC. Is that the correct statement? The "Celebrity Apprentice" is doing great," said Trump. "You're not allowed to have a show on and be a candidate. It's a great show and it's got phenomenal ratings, and until that show is over I can't declare, otherwise NBC would have to take the show off the air and that would be very unfair."

The show is set to wrap up in mid-May.

Actually, I don't think this is a bad thing at all. However, I would expect Trump/Frump to make all his information publicly available afterwards, as well as sources, etc. Merely saying "Gosh this makes me really concerned" does nothing but stir the pot (which has enough stirrers already).

Question: If Trump/Frump finds he is barking up the wrong tree and finds nothing to factually further his argument, what does he do then? Will he admit error, or is that beyond his capabilities?

Has this man completely lost his mind? Donald Trump's ego is almost as big as his mouth. LEAVE PRESIDENT OBAMA ALONE! He's doing a much better job than you could ever conceive of doing! We are all sick of this constant foolishness and Donald Trump should hang his head in shame. He certainly has a warped view of what American values truly are. Shut up and go away!

There absolutley needs to be new legaslation to make a law that if you have been a reality TV star you cannot ever be President of the United States of America. Reality Tv shows are very dangerous to peoples ego, and there seems to be overwhelming proof that these shows fill peoples heads with delusions that they are all of sudden qualified to be POTUS
Just say no to Reality TV stars that want to run for office

I love it. The more Donald opens his mouth, the more he looks like an idiot. 2012 should be a cakewalk.

Is there any evidence that Stanley Ann Dunham ever traveled to Kenya? That, to me, would be the easiest way to prove these outrageous claims. Of course, no such evidence exists. Also, John McCain was born in Panama. Why should he have been eligible to be president?

Keep it up Trump. Run as a 3rd party candidate when you and your kindred crazies (Palin, Gingrich, Bachmann) don't get the Republican nomination. I pray that your incessant need for the public eye leads you to run as a 3rd party candidate. Knowing that you'll take the crazy vote away from the real Republican nominee is just what helps Mr. Obama. Keep going Dump, err, I mean Trump. There needs to be payback for what Nader did to Gore and you're just the idiot to give us that.

If you're in it to help Obama then you're a really really smart guy and a true patriot.

Okay, let's investigate Trump's business dealings. There must be a reason why he was turned down to repurchase the Trump property(ies) in Atlantic City, NJ. The country hjas lots of troubles and he is the one who is deflecting on real issues. He is playing to his base - the Tea Party people.

Trump is following an old advice of a propaganda specialist: "If you keep on repeating a lie, people will finally believe in it." The name of this specialist was Joseph Goebbels.

I've always thought that Donald Trump was an arrogant idiot, but this is absolutely ridiculous. He is making a complete fool of himself. Good for ratings!

God i am so over this already. Is this going to be the 2012 GOP rally call? If so, be prepared for Obama to win in a landslide.

He won't run. Too much scrutiny will be done regarding his business deals and misdeals. Plus he will have to make full financial disclosure of everything. I don't think he would be willing to do that. All he is doing now is pandering to the right and fueling more hate that this country really doens't need right now.

So the country's self-proclaimed biggest con-artist and bankruptcy declarer is going to waste a significant amount of money he really doesn't have to settle an issue that was settled over three years ago. And there are people who think this scam expert is going to make a good president? What happens the first time he tries to fire someone that he does not have the authority to fire?

Good for you Mr. Trump ! Expose this liar and the entire tear down of the United States and its citizens. Anyone that would spend over 2 million bucks to cover his birth and life is hiding something very terrible.

I was brought up to believe that definitely or probably are two different words and mean two different things. If the poll was done as 'definitely or probably' in the same sentence the poll is useless, null and void. As for whether he was nor not, I find it hard to believe that they did not catch any irregularities when they did his clearances, I know what my family , friends and neighbors went through when I got my TS and above clearances that is unless his connections got him some free passes in which case shame on the people who did the BI...

He probably won't find anything but it is kinda fun to watch. The Dems did this to Bush, Palin and many other GOP opponents over the years. If you are going to run for political office you better be squeaky clean.

This just shows the desperation of the republican party – they're propping up a pandering silver-spooned loser like trump. What happens if he becomes president, trashes the economy like he did his fathers businesses – is he just going to walk away like he did with the others?

This is pathetic, but an exacting descriptor of todays republican party.

Didn't they use to call this a witch hunt back in the day. Clearly President Obama has ticked off Trump and now he is out for revenge. Folks don't be fooled. This is not about the issues. If it were, Trump would be talking about them and he's not. Remember last year when a lady said she was "Tired of defending the President." Well, I am tired of the hate mongers with their hate speak having all the air time in the United States. I can't believe how backward we are and I can't believe I ever thought things had gotten better in the last 50 or 60 years. Clearly they haven't...

This guy is an idiot. This is what we propose as the leader of our country? This caricacture? This fraud? This is how we spend our time, even now? Does he not imagine, in the vast emptiness that lies beneath that tangled mop of relocated hair, that the FBI has not confirmed that Mr. Obama was a natural born US ciitzen? Oh, he's black, he has a "funny name", he spent parts of his youth outside our country... fear him!

Heaven forbid our country grow up enough to accept a non-WASP for president. What's next, someone of Latin American ancestry? A woman? A Jew?

Stop offending our nation and stick to the muck that has given you wealth.
