Trump sends investigators to Hawaii to look into Obama
Washington (CNN) – Self-proclaimed birther Donald Trump is now so doubtful of President Obama's birthplace that he's sent a team of his own investigators to Hawaii in hopes of getting to the bottom of the issue.
That's according to Trump himself, who, in an interview with NBC, warned his investigators just might uncover "one of the greatest cons in the history of politics and beyond."
"I have people that have been studying it and they cannot believe what they're finding," Trump said an interview that aired Thursday Morning.
Asked if he has assigned people specifically to search in Hawaii, Trump said, "Absolutely."
The business mogul, who in a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal Poll is tied for second place among potential presidential candidates, also suggested the president is involved in an ongoing cover-up over the matter.
"He spent $2 million in legal fees trying on to get away from this issue, and if it weren't an issue, why wouldn't he just solve it?" he said. "I wish he would because if he doesn't, it's one of the greatest scams in the history of politics and in the history, period. You are not allowed to be a president if you're not born in this country. Right now, I have real doubts."
According to a recent CNN/Opinion Research Corporation national poll, 72 percent of Americans say that the president was definitely or probably born in the U.S., with one in four saying that he was definitely or probably born outside the country. But the survey indicates a partisan divide, with 43 percent of Republicans but only 11 percent of Democrats saying that Obama was definitely or probably born outside the U.S.
In 2008, the Obama campaign produced a certification of live birth that reports his birthplace as Honolulu, Hawaii – a document the Hawaii government says is official evidence of his birth in the state. Among other evidence of Obama's birth there is the fact the hospital where he was born took out ads in two Hawaiian newspapers in 1961 announcing the birth, while current Gov. Neil Abercrombie says he knew Obama's family and remembers his birth.
In the broad interview, Trump also insisted he's more serious than ever about mounting a presidential bid, but said he can't make a final decision until this season of "Celebrity Apprentice" wraps up.
"I hate to say it. I have the No. 1 show on NBC. Is that the correct statement? The "Celebrity Apprentice" is doing great," said Trump. "You're not allowed to have a show on and be a candidate. It's a great show and it's got phenomenal ratings, and until that show is over I can't declare, otherwise NBC would have to take the show off the air and that would be very unfair."
The show is set to wrap up in mid-May.

Mr. Trump's good intentions not-withstanding, I would have to be assured that his personal sacrifice as president is greater than his survival instinct. I don't think America could handle a President willing to bankrupt any part of our system and save himself, as was done with his corporation years ago.

There is so much misinformation about this topic. I've read within the last few months that Hawaii's governor said he couldn't prove nor provide the birth records and was afraid it would hurt Obama's re-election bid. I also read that the hospital specifically denied that the record of live birth came from them. I'm on the fence about the issue but am confused why there is so much contradiction. Why wouldn't Obama just release his birth certificate if 72% of Americans are unsure? Where I come from thats pretty shady.

The most brilliant thing that is happening here is that Obama is ignoring this because it is driving birthers crazy...so let Trump and whomever else investigate.. and if they turn up his "real" birth certificate they will look like total idiots and Obama will come out looking like the smart one.

I've got news for him, he is a candidate, and he does have a show. NBC needs to tell him to shut up and honor whatever agreements he may have with them, or can his show on the spot. As to his army of investigators, what if they turn up nothing new? Will he still stick to this assinine line of reasoning, or will he accept the truth? I don't think he can accept the truth if its not something he wants. Of course, he will insist there is more, that he was blocked at every turn. He has already called the Governor of Hawaii a liar for stating he remembered the President as a child, so we know that Trump is incapable of accepting the truth whenever its presented to him. His show has provided a mirror into the implusive way he has decided to hire or fire people, so his analytical skills are questionable on a good day.

There was once a statue and a sign in a Kenyan town announcing 'the birthplace of Barack Obama'. It has since disappeared. Numerous Kenyans who were either present at the birth or knew of the local birth have either disappeared, recanted their stories or been bought off. There is no chance in the world that this human devil was born in America! But when you are surrounded by the Chicago Mob you seem to get a pass on all your activities.
