Trump to meet with sponsor of Arizona 'birther bill'

Washington (CNN) - Donald Trump has angered some and pleased others for questioning President Obama's birthplace. What Trump is set to do next will likely keep the spotlight on his actions.

On Friday the real-estate mogul and reality TV star will meet with a state lawmaker from Arizona who is sponsoring a so-called "birther bill."

Republican Rep. Carl Seel's bill would require any presidential candidate to prove that he or she was, in fact, born in the United States.

A press release from Seel said he will meet with Trump in the morning at Trump Tower in New York City. "Donald Trump has brought the issue of President Barack Obama failing to provide a birth certificate front and center recently, and sent investigators to Hawaii this week to investigate further," the release said.

"This issue has been gaining steam around the country as several state legislatures are considering legislation to ensure that any candidate running for president provide documentation that they are legally qualified to run for that office."

Seel's office told CNN the lawmaker reached out to Trump to request a meeting, and that Trump accepted. On Thursday morning Seel boarded a plane en route for the Friday meeting.

Trump, who is considering a presidential bid, has caused a stir by questioning if the president was born in the U.S. Speaking with CNN on Thursday. Trump echoed a line he'd said in a morning TV interview: that the president's citizenship may be a "scam."

CNN has debunked such claims surrounding the president's birthplace.

In 2008, the Obama campaign produced a certification of live birth that reports his birthplace as Honolulu, Hawaii – a document the Hawaii government says is official evidence of his birth in the state. Among other evidence of Obama's Hawaii birth is the fact the hospital where he was born took out ads in two Hawaiian newspapers in 1961 announcing the birth and while current Gov. Neil Abercrombie says he knew Obama's family and remembers his birth.

Republican Rep. Carl Seel does not have a brain and Donald Trump's hair is not made (or grown) in America.

Trump doesn't rate a comment, but the investigation into Trump will be revealing.

I used to think Trump was a mildy amusing but harmless arrogant chump. Now I find him disgusting and will not tolerate even seeing his face, let alone hear his noxious voice. I will immediately change the channel and avoid anything that has his image with that clownish "hair-doo".

You got to love the connotative suggestion that these people are less than. I love Journalist who are know it alls, or at least believe they are experts on everything. I did take Constitutional law in college. I did work in the Federal Government too. So, here is what I see, Mr Trumps point is. And I believe it is a valid one to make.

You miss the point of the Birthers. Although it is true every state has their own constitution, Supreme Court, and legislation. They can not usurp the Federal Government. If any agent or employee of the FBI, State Department and or Homeland Security, ask to see the Presidents Birth Certificate. No Hawaii State official may impeed or deny them from seeing it. It is not enough that he or she says, I seen it, viewed it and it's okie dokie. Take my word for it. The state does not have the right to Flip off the Federal Government. That is the real issue. Freedom of Information act, clearly denotes what is and what is not acceptable. Any state Official that would not allow a Federal Officer and or Offcial to see that Birth certificate or interferes with their official duty is breaking Federal law. What part of that do you not understand ? Who do these people think they are ?

This is test. President Obama will wait till Trump spends $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ just to find out that yes, the President was in fact born in the USA. That will prove how stupidly Republicans spend money.

Donald Trump is an idiot, he married to foreign women from East Europe and now he wants to run for President, well ,I don't think he really believes that President Obama was not born in the US , he is just being a jerk, a bully and a disgusting human bing. Don't be a cowerd Donald Trump and come clean about the fact that you can not accept that a black man could be a President that is what is bottering you, nothing else.

The "certificate of live birth" and the newspaper announcements could have been obtained by B.H.O.Jr.'s grandfather without any doctor examining a child or testifying to its existence. The fact that the birth certificate lists the grandfather's home address and not B.H.O.Sr.'s home address is evidence that this is what happened. There is no evidence that B.H.O.Sr. ever lived at the same address as B.H.O.Jr.'s mother, Stanley Ann, who may have been in living on the mainland at the time of his conception and birth. The birth certificate and marriage may well have been a sham because Stanley Ann did not know who the father was and B.H.O. Sr. needed the marriage in order to stay in the U.S. Then there is the issue of whether Stanley Ann got an Indonesian citizenship for B.H.O.Jr. and whether he used it to apply to Princeton and Harvard, effectively renouncing his U.S. citizenship. There is something being concealed here, and I welcome Mr. Trump's interest and investigation.

Sixteen bajillion articles on Trump's idiocy birtherism and not one on the recently "found" 2-day old 7,000 extra votes that just happens to give republican justice Prosser a recount free win over his opponent in Wisconsin on a republican's personal computer in a republican county.

Oh where, oh where has my real investigative CNN gone? I miss those guys.

Is this what the state of political discourse and political talent has sunken to in the U.S.? Is this the best we, especially the Republicans, can do? Why are we paying attention at all to Donald Trump and his antics? Isn't it obvious what he's doing? The man has always been a media junkie and a raving megalomaniac, desperate to see his name in highlights and have people pay attention to him. His 'presidential campaign' and his embrace of the birther movement are merely the latest twists in his unending campaign to be 'the Donald'. Why are we even paying attention to an self-confessed dishonest real estate developer and reality show star? While it would be interesting to know if he really believes what he is saying or has merely found another lever to rachet up his media exposure, his rantings are irresponsible and destructive. Even Glenn Beck found his statements on the issue 'disturbing'. Trump apparently wants to turn the national debate and the next presidential campaign into another reality show, with him as the star. We should be having rational debate on the key issues. Instead we are being distracted by a side show snake oil salesman with a bad haircut.
P.S. CNN - you bear some of the blame. If you did not treat every silly little thing he (and others) say as some monumentally important news moment, we may not be having this problem . Somewhere, Edward R. Murrow is puking.

Now we know Trump will do anything to be in the limelight. I watched him on TV saying the Obama's Birth cert is not signed nor stamped "certified". Dear Trump- it is signed and stamped on the reverse side of the birth certificate, and the birth was also announced in two of Hawaii's main newspapers. So unless you believe that the newpapers are in on the scam with the gov of Hawaii then u have nothing but BS .

Donald Trump is an idiot. Let him investigate all he wants. I hardly think that then Senator Obama would have run for President if he wasn't born in the United States. It would be too easy to investigate the birthplace of someone running for that office. Trump is a chump.

If this doesn't prove what an asshole Trump is, I don't know what will. He certainly isn't fit to be a president himself.

This is the only way that Trump can get attention. I don't understand how any one on the apprentice can stay on that show. He is utterly disgusting. If there was anything on President Obama the Clintons would have long exposed it especially in the primaries. I did not like him then and I like him even less at this point. His actions are a stain on the fabric of America.

So, why are these people re-hashing the birth issue? Why are they perpetually trying to keep doubt about this President's legitimacy? What is the REAL point of their campaign?
Well I think it ties in well with Sarah Palin's lying about the "death squads" killing our grandparents, and "forced abortions". She knew she was lying. So did the Republicans who co-authored the Health Care Bill. And it was proven again and again that she was lying. BUT people still turned on the bill, and on the President, as evidenced by the last elections.
My question is, why are Americans so willing to be lied to? Why do we not question people who we know are lying to us? Why don't we see the hate campaign for what it is; a hate campaign against the President of the United States.
Sadly, our political world seems to be lacking the integrity to challenge the President on the issues, rather than flog the dead horse of his birthplace, and his legitimacy.

Trump is the ultimate showman and self-promoter. People like him know how to keep themselves in the news using whatever means possible. His possible "presidential run" got him in the papers, and then–when the story cooled–he jumped on the birther bandwagon. As soon as they establish the Obama birth (again) in Hawaii, he will be on to something else, then decide that he is not running after all, or withdraw if he announces. He's just milking events for his own publicity, then will start another TV show or build another building, probably at a price larger than before. He's feeding his market value, not to mention his enormous ego.

All the stuff we have going on in this country and this idiot wants to rehash this tripe. It what you do when you can't win by debating the issues, I suppose. He's killing his chances of being nominated, which is fine by me.
