Trump to meet with sponsor of Arizona 'birther bill'

Washington (CNN) - Donald Trump has angered some and pleased others for questioning President Obama's birthplace. What Trump is set to do next will likely keep the spotlight on his actions.

On Friday the real-estate mogul and reality TV star will meet with a state lawmaker from Arizona who is sponsoring a so-called "birther bill."

Republican Rep. Carl Seel's bill would require any presidential candidate to prove that he or she was, in fact, born in the United States.

A press release from Seel said he will meet with Trump in the morning at Trump Tower in New York City. "Donald Trump has brought the issue of President Barack Obama failing to provide a birth certificate front and center recently, and sent investigators to Hawaii this week to investigate further," the release said.

"This issue has been gaining steam around the country as several state legislatures are considering legislation to ensure that any candidate running for president provide documentation that they are legally qualified to run for that office."

Seel's office told CNN the lawmaker reached out to Trump to request a meeting, and that Trump accepted. On Thursday morning Seel boarded a plane en route for the Friday meeting.

Trump, who is considering a presidential bid, has caused a stir by questioning if the president was born in the U.S. Speaking with CNN on Thursday. Trump echoed a line he'd said in a morning TV interview: that the president's citizenship may be a "scam."

CNN has debunked such claims surrounding the president's birthplace.

In 2008, the Obama campaign produced a certification of live birth that reports his birthplace as Honolulu, Hawaii – a document the Hawaii government says is official evidence of his birth in the state. Among other evidence of Obama's Hawaii birth is the fact the hospital where he was born took out ads in two Hawaiian newspapers in 1961 announcing the birth and while current Gov. Neil Abercrombie says he knew Obama's family and remembers his birth.

Um, so many reasons why Trump is looking the fool. Dude, the President has been traveling internationally since childhood. He's had a passport longer than most Americans. There is also this little thing called a Federal Elections Committee. They kind of run the show on this. Not some podunk rep from AZ.

A private citizen has no legitimate reason to go poking around the personal records of the POTUS. Of course the President's records are sealed. Every lookey-lou is trying to take a gander! And FYI brainiac, the cert. of live birth is what many Dept.s of Public Health issue when a copy is requested.

And to those that will scream Obama's SSN card says he was born in CT, lay off whatever you're on. SSN cards don't list your birthplace and they aren't issued when your born. You have to apply for them. I was born in MI but I didn't need an SSN card until I was over the age of ten and living in AZ.

Oh cool! The Donald has dispatched his own personal "investigators". Yeah, that should settle everything, because, you know, The Donald...well, that's just how he rolls. But I wonder if he's got "investigators" also looking into how big of a joke he really is. Hmmm. Seen the polls lately Sir Duck...I mean Donald?

Trump is an idiot. Unless you are native American , we are all from other countries. With Trumps blue eyes, his ancesters could of migrated from Germany, Sweden, etc.. Maybe we should kick him out of the country. Mexicans have more right to be in America then we do....Their ancesters actually come from the Americas.

I may not like his personality but the guy does know what he is talking about. You don't become a billionaire on accident, you have to have brains and you have to be able to work with high-profile, powerful people.

As far as the other candidates are concerned, it's hard to tell what they really want to do with America because their genuine personalities are hiding behind their big political campaigns.

Think about it, we are deciding on a president to make decisions on behalf of the entire country. Shouldn't we at least be able to know who we are electing? I haven't decided who I amgoing to support yet, but if every other candidate gives me anymore superficial agenda's then I will be putting a lot of resources and energy to help Donald get elected.

I'm am really sick of our's really killing Americans and the worst part is that Americans are too blind to see it........

He has enough money to throw away and waste. It is all about publicity. He can pay millions to get publicity or he can spend a few hundred grand to send "investigators" to Hawaii to get publicity. Pretty smart move if you want cheaper publicity. The fact of Obama's birth is secondary in this matter. As a businessman, he is only bolstering his "worth" in the business of money, not government.. He is smart enough to know he will never be president, and smart enough to use this publicity stun for future gains. True businessman through and through and pretty good con man of his own right.

Why do we continue to bother with the birther crap. Everytime it has gone to a court somewhere, it has been thrown out or failed to meet the burden of proof!

Dear Mr. Trump, If this is how you spend your money and time while trying to sell yourself as a potential candidate for the presidency, you can be sure you'll never get my vote - if you could actually gain a nomination for the presidency. I'd hate to think of what witch hunt you'd use our limited federal dollars to pursue as president. If you are thinking of taking a shot at the presidency, why don't you try convincing us that you are something more than a joke with bad hair.

"Gov. Neil Abercrombie says he knew Obama's family and remembers his birth."???? Really??? The Governor of the State of Hawaii happens to remember some no name Obama being born in 1961? I wonder if the Governor of my state in 1972 remembers me being born....

Forget about investigating Obama's birth. Investigate Obama's mental capacity; that is much more questionable.

What else should we expect from those who have ulterior motives. Trump and his advisor are banking on winning by playing to the hate some republicans and tea party folk have for Obama and what he represents, the future. Republicans and tea party members want an America were only the elite benefit from the government.

This is ridiicoulous...If this president was white there would be no such thing as a birther bill. I am disapointed in Donald Trump, who I thought was a level headed person ,but now its a different perception he acts like a bigot.

I might have maybe perhaps taken time to consider Trump as a legit presidential candidate even though I don't usually vote for republicans but this birther stuff makes him a joke now. NO way would I touch someone who pulls this type of stunt for votes. Serious, qualified candidates who don't participate in a circus only.

What is Trump doing, or has been doing to help needy people in this time of crisis. Trump is a corporate mongrel (yes...I spelled it right.). He represents the major cause of greenhouse gases. If he has done nothing to help the planet and its people during his corporate lifetime, what would he possibly do as President, to save the planet. Bill made an important point. The Republicans systematically destroyed America's economy for 8 years. President Bush was adding to the deficit on the way out of office. Then you have ignorant Americans who expected Obama to fix the problem overnight, while being set upon by Republicans, for every way he has been trying to help the American people. Not Kuwait, Not Iraq, Not Israel, but the American people. Israel is one of the most powerful countries in the world. They can fight their own battles. It's time to fight for the AMERICAN PEOPLE. And that is what President Obama has been doing!

I am 100% confident that President Obama was born a US citizen, but I hope that the Birthers get their day in the spotlight, just to expose how utterly ignorant they are of the law. My husband is older than President Obama, and was born in Colorado. We sent away for a replacement birth certificate for him a few years ago, and received a piece of paper with the seal of the State of Colorado. This piece of paper looked remarkably like the certificate of live birth that President Obama provided to prove his birth in the state of Hawaii. No signatures, no baby footprints, no mother's fingerprint. Come on people, we are in the computer age now! The statistics are compiled online by officials of the vital records departments of the various states, printed in a standardized format, accompanied by the official seal of the respective state. This speeds up the process of providing official documents, rather than having to sift through filing cabinets or boxes of paperwork and xeroxing and/or scanning them. So, I know of 2 states out of 50 (4% of them) that do things this way. No doubt there are others. Once the rest of the country figures this out, this will be the end of the Birther movement, mostly led by Tea Partiers, and they will lose ALL of their credibility! It's time to expose this nonsense for what it is.

...and with regard to this Arizona "birther bill"...President Obama would be "good to go" as he has ALREADY produced an official certified document from the state of Hawaii showing that in fact he was born in that state....which is one of the documents on the list of acceptable documents in the version just passed by the Arizona Senate.

Here are some facts that even The Donald can not and will not dispute:

    1. The GOP wanted John McCain to win in 2008.

    2. The GOP has millions (if not billions) of dollars and hundreds (if not thousands) of lawyers at their disposal.

If there were any truth to the claim that President Obama was not born in the United States, the GOP would have proven it beyond a shadow of a doubt in a court of law a LONG TIME AGO.

The only conclusion I can draw from The Donald's actions is that he is either a willing or unwitting participant in the GOP's ongoing effort to distract the country (and especially their ignorant, fearful base) from the fact that it was the FAILED REPUBLICAN POLICIES that nearly brought down the global financial markets and got our country into the current fiscal, military and foreign messes we are currently experiencing.
