Trump says he has good relationship with 'the blacks'

Washington (CNN) – As he continues to mull a presidential bid, or say he is mulling a presidential bid, business mogul Donald Trump is lamenting the fact President Obama appears to have locked up the black vote.

"I have a great relationship with the blacks," Trump told Albany's Talk Radio 1300 Thursday. "I've always had a great relationship with the blacks."

But Trump says it's a "very sad thing" such a high percentage of that demographic supports President Obama, for reasons, he believes, that are largely influenced by race. The discussion was spawned by a recent poll of New York voters that found 95 percent of black voters there approve of the president's job performance. The same poll found that the president's overall approval rating in New York stands at 54 percent.

"Look at Hillary Clinton," the reality television star continued in reference to the 2008 Democratic presidential primary race. "Hillary Clinton did so much for the black population, so much and got very few votes."

"Look, I tell it like it is," he added. "Then you hear a political reporter go on and say, 'It had nothing to do with race.' But how come she got such a tiny piece of the vote. It's a very sad thing."

Donald Trump cares about no one except Donald Trump. He would screw over his own mother if it got him more press and more money. Trump president of this country? We're the laughing stock I'm sure.

Trumps comments are not surprising. Why would a self-centered ego-maniac that whether for his business or the country is "in it just for himself" and minimal interest for his employees and partners have any real understanding or caring of how people work and vote. His lack of understanding of this topic is only surpassed by his lack of understanding of his own ignorance on such topics. Do you really want this type of person to be the leader of the US? Not to worry, he is not interested, there is nothing in it for him. This is just for show to massage his own ego and increase the ratings of his TV shows. The epitome of what is wrong with some of those in high level business positions. We are only in trouble if his ego gets the better of his business sense and he really trys to make a run for it.

He also probably thinks eugenics is about a black named Eugene. Besides a new hair piece, brother Donald needs a mega dose of humility.

"The blacks" Wow, a new reference for me. I guess he is The Donald. This fool should realize he's starting to hurt his business by putting his foot in his mouth so much.

As far as the Hillary vote thing, yeah Bill didn't help, but let's not forget Sharpton and Jackson have ran for President mutliple times with very little of the black population (better usage) support. Donald Trump is no smarter than a 10 year old, I don't care how rich he is. Maybe Obama's viability and non-usage of rhetoric maybe had something to do with the overwhelming support Donald.

Could these articles be published without the giant, scary images up top? I don't need a massive, leathery, fake-tanned Donald Trump staring at me when I click on a link.

He's working hard to try and discredit our first African American President and he thinks he has a good relationship with blacks? Either he thinks Americans are stupid or he's delusional, or maybe a little of both.

Its ok Donald its not like the Republican party ever cares about anything but the white vote anyway. Thus the paranoia about slightly brown Hispanics over running their redneck states.

Due to the history of our nation it is obvious that African Americans want Obama to do well. With that said let us not kid ourselves, African Americans do not have the right or freedom to say that they disapprove of Obama, the reason that they don't is because of a political party and its ideology, it just so happens to be the one that started the klan, the Democrats.

    "The Blacks"? Seriously?
This shows how ignorantly disconnected you are. You might as well have said "The Moolies".

'I have a great relationship with "the blacks"...'
This guy sounds like a government official from South Africa back in the Boetha days.
Fortunately, the USA has progressed almost as much as South Africa since then.

He did not seriously say 'The Blacks'. And he thinks he 'tells it like it is' – yeah he does – in Trump Fantasy Land.

NEWSFLASH NOT ALL BLACK PEOPLE VOTED FOR OBAMA. I am so sick and tired of race being bought into EVERY conversation re Obama. A lot of white people voted for Obama as black people ALONE could not have given him the victory. What an insult to millions of people.

Honestly it doesn't matter if Trump has a good relationship or even if he more qualified than Obama. The blacks will vote for Obama again. Turncoat Colin Powell is a perfect example of that. The man voted color vs. qualifications.

My guess is that this is a calculated remark meant to further polarize politics and appeal to the fears of a white, traditionalist minority.

Did Obama really get more of the black vote than any other Democrat? Sorry but the black vote is monolithic, it is all Democrat all the time. There is no appealing to it, or campaigning for it, it is what it is. As for the results of putting all your eggs in one basket, well look at the areas that have had complete Democrat control for the last 4 or 5 decades like Detroit, you can decide if this is foolish or a smart way to vote.

Substitute any white Christian GOP'er and you get the same, except change Detroit to any city in the red-meat sheep belt of states that wouldn't vote for a non-christian if their lives depended on it....oh yeah Obama's a muslim so that's why

You will not find many black workers on his construction sites. The ones that you will see are there because they represent vendors that supply equipement and materials. You will not find many blacks living in his exclusive buildings, either.

Oh, this just gets better and better. Go, Donald, go!

@ Doug: Lets apply your logic to Texas, which has been under either conservative and/or GOP rule for generations. You have a state with glaring poverty, enormous disparity in income and education, and huge dependence on the federal government depite all its talk about rugged independence. Ranks at or near the bottom in all the areas that appeal to people, and even taxes are going up. The Conservative vote is monolithic even more than the black vote, with even more bleak results than the ones you claim. BTW, Detroit's decline is not due to blacks, but to the Big 3 making catastrophic decisions over generations, combined with white flight: why, even Mitt Romney left the area! One would think all that corporate paternalism would appeal to him more than MA.

What the heck "I have a good relationship with the Blacks"??? He is too ignorant to know he has a problem. I am very offended, not by the fact that he is ignorant, it's the fact that he is ignorant to the facts. I wonder what would be reported if President Obama said "he has good relationship with the Whites"? I would consider that an ignorant response too. Donald needs to be called on the carpet for this!!!!
