Dems raise money off birther bills

Washington (CNN) – The ongoing birther issue might be a pain in Obama's backside, but at least some Democrats are seeking to raise money off of it.

The Democratic Governors Association sent an e-mail to supporters Thursday seeking contributions to "stop these senseless political games."

The DGA notes that legislatures in Indiana and Louisiana are considering bills similar to that which Arizona Gov Jan Brewer, a Republican, just vetoed: requiring all presidential candidates to show their birth certificates in order to appear on statewide ballots.

"No matter how many times it's disproven, Republicans still embrace the dangerous conspiracy theory that President Obama wasn't born in this country and is not eligible to hold office. It's just not true," the e-mail says. "But that hasn't stopped Republicans in numerous state legislatures from introducing 'birther' bills aimed specifically at undermining President Obama."

Everyone seems to forget that Mr. Obama's mother was unquestionably a U.S. citizen. This fact alone confers natural U.S. citizenship upon Mr. Obama as a matter of settled U.S. law. I love this now because they are now going to totally alientate independents and it will inure notonly to Mr. Obama's benefit but the Democratic party as a whole. Then maybe we can break the fgridlock in Congress and actually get something done for a change!

Lets see, 43 past White Presidents and then all of a sudden a half black President is elected and all of sudden we need to see a birth certificate, there is something wrong with this picture, in which there is no justification, except to those who need an excuse to hide their true fellings.!

The only reason Brewer Vetoed the Arizona Birther Bill is because McCain couldn't locate any information in writing that showed he was born an American.

Keeping the birther issue and other nutty topics alive is going to kill the GOP. They will become just the Tea Party.

It appears that the Repubs feel the only way they can defeat President Obama, is to try and discredit him. The more they do this, and use those crudy tactics, the more they push people further from them. I myself, would never, never, never in a million years, vote for a repub. Just look at what happened in MI.....he made all those promises, but...he never told them what his real plan was, which was to take away their bargaining rights. That's how republicans operate..UNDER THE TABLE< AND BEHIND YOUR BACKS! OWWW take the knife out!!!

Show us the birth certificate!!!! I don't care about the certificate of live birth. We should see the long form. Obama can't stop this now, but he doesn't. Did you know that by law if someone is born outside of Hawaii and a relative lives in Hawaii, that foreign born individual can get a US birth certificate?! The Dems are idiots for choosing this jerk over Hillary Clinton.

rusty155: Originally I, too, was from IN. Isn't it interesting that John McCain was born in the Panama Canal zone and no one is making a fuss over his citizenship? I love how they say all these bills aren't directed towards Obama and are not racially motivated. It's amazing to see someone lie right in front of you and expect you to believe it. I guess when the big business Republican party coopted the rifle rack social conservatives they forgot how uneducated and gullible they are.

Very, very interesting photo. "Don't stand so close to me". Could be she's trying to convince the President the merits of the legislature that will allow people to 'pack' on Arizona campus'.

Or maybe convince him that her veto of the 'birther bill' in Arizona wasn't really the final chapter in a very poorly conceived and executed sham intended to give her some pretense of credibility.

It's not the "place of birth" question that is the's the reaction to the question that is the problem. Any rational person in Obama's place would calmly release his original long-form birth certificate. His reaction(and that of most democrats) is not the normal reaction that one would expect.

Even if Obama showed his birth certificate they will next want witnesses of the live birth, that's because they are idiots!

Sure Glenda, keep drinking the Tea. There isn't a single Republican who can beat Obama. Romney will flip flop 32 times on every issue before election day and the rest of the 'field' isn't worth mentioning. I foresee a Romney/Huntsman (Campaign Slogan: Boy are we white!") losing by 6 points. Everyone else loses by double digits.

Let's see, a certificate of live birth is the only platform the Repubs have against Obama in 2012? Then that tells me Obama's policies must be right!

BTW, a cert of live birth is what MI sent me when I needed a replacement. My husband and kids, all born in AZ, received certs of live birth as the original document at their time of birth. Brewer would have had a hard time dismissing it as a legit document when it's what her own state gives out, especially as "the" document.

"Raise all the money he wants. He's good at wasteful spending. He's going down in 2012 and if he has sense he knows it."

LOL! Did you complain about Bush wasting billions on two wars? And who's gonna take Obama's place? Some idot like Trump, Palin, Bachmann, Pawlenty, Romney, Huckabee, Barbour? What a laugh the GOP is. The republican field is so weak, Obama will be in again without much effort.
