Washington (CNN) - Republican Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, who vetoed a bill in April that would have required presidential candidates to prove they were American citizens born in the United States, thinks the so-called birther movement is a "huge distraction."
"It's just something that I think is leading our country down a path of destruction and it just is not serving any good purpose," Brewer said Monday on CNN's "John King, USA."

Washington (CNN) - Republican Texas Rep. Ron Paul will announce on Tuesday the formation of a presidential exploratory committee at an event in Des Moines, Iowa, CNN has learned.
While Paul is announcing an exploratory committee, he has not made a final decision about launching a campaign for the White House in 2012.

Washington (CNN) - Bristol Palin's baby-daddy, Levi Johnston, wrote a book to be published this fall that will set the "record straight" about his relationship with the Palins.
"I want to tell the truth about my close relationship with the Palins, my sense of Sarah, and my perplexing fall from grace – how I feel and what I've learned," Johnston said in a statement. "I'm doing this for me, for my boy Tripp and for the country."

Washington (CNN) - Real estate mogul Donald Trump's latest claim about President Obama's birth certificate is that it's missing.
"Well I've been told very recently, Anderson, that the birth certificate is missing," Trump told CNN's Anderson Cooper Monday. "I've been told that it's not there or it doesn't exist. And if that's the case it's a big problem."

Washington (CNN) - Leading the potential 2012 Republican pack in South Carolina is former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, according to a new poll.
The American Research Group Poll shows Huckabee with 20 percent among registered Republican primary voters, followed by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney with 18 percent, real estate mogul Donald Trump with 13 percent and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin with 10 percent.

Adding to paid radio advertisements that went up last week is an initiative to flood Republican home districts with telephone calls to get the DCCC word out, as well as a web video posted Monday. All make the point that the Republican members promised to protect Medicare on the 2010 campaign trail only to support a 2012 budget which would cut Medicare spending in the future.
