GOPers react to Obama's birth certificate

(CNN) - Republicans are reacting on Twitter and via statements to President Obama’s surprise release of his birth certificate Wednesday:

Sarah Palin, former Alaska governor
@SarahPalinUSA Media: admit it, Trump forced the issue. Now, don't let the WH distract you w/the birth crt from what Bernanke says today. Stay focused, eh?

Mitt Romney, former and likely presidential candidate
@MittRomney What President Obama should really be releasing is a jobs plan

Republican National Committee
@RNCResearch Obama's release of his birth cert. is a nice, but temporary distraction for him from high gas prices & a terrible economy

Michael Steel, spokesman to House speaker John Boehner, in a statement:
"This has long been a settled issue. The Speaker’s focus is on cutting spending, lowering gas prices, and creating American jobs.”

Tony Fratto, former Bush press secretary
@TonyFratto So the President is playing his Trump card

Mike Murphy, GOP strategist
@murphymike Now... Do I get to see Trump's income tax returns? Say, last ten years?

So they wanted him to release it. Then when he does, they take the time to complain about him releasing it? The American people can see right through all of you.

What about all the moronic birthers? What will they do? They, including Trump, called him a liar! Now, they look foolish and are trying to take credit for somehting that had been proven long ago, wasting time and money on this issue. The republicans are the quinesential frauds with no solutions to any problems. They are content to point fingers but offer no solutiuons. After all, this financial mess was started under their watch.

Palin is an idiot, it's not the WH distracting people over the President's birth certificate, it's the Republican party. Again, more proof Palin just opens her mouth without thinking just like she agreed with Trump, what an idiot.

OMG. Now that President Obama has called their bluff, they are trying to pretend that they force him into it. Guess what? Now President Obama is forcing YOU to give up this stupid quest and get on with the real problems that are facing America. You remember don't you? WE NEED JOBS

Just as some in the WH predicted these Repugs just can't admit it. They raised the issue for several years and now Obama provided them with what they wanted and it still is not enough.

Obama certainly moved quickly as it only took him THREE YEARS to produce a document. Now, I've held to the premise that he was likely born in the US, but it certainly wont stop theorists from believing that the document was forged. Obama failed miserably in his handling of the situation. He should have put this to bed years ago! Appearances are sometimes more important than the truth. Trump 1 Obama 0.

Thank God this is finally over with. Obama was scoring far too many political points by keeping it under wraps. Give Trump a lot of credit for getting done in a few weeks what the Clinton machine couldn't do for months.

Now republicans are trying to act as if it is such a little and non issue for the President to be releasing his birth certificate when that is all they have been yelling for the last 2 1/2 years which is why it did doesn't make much difference one way or the other and the birthers will still question that. Nothing will be good enough for these people because the real issue is not whether or not he was born in America, but rather who he was born as, people don't get it twisted! There are some Americans who should be ashamed of themselves!

Mitt Romney, where are the job bills from the GOP? Didn't they run on that in 2010? Face it, the GOP/Tea Party has nothing, no platform and not one viable candidate. As for the Paul Ryan budget (horrible) plan, it looks like the folks in the town hall meetings are up in arms. My turn comes tomorrow when the Republican congressman will visit our town hall meeting.

The GOP is still complaining. Those birther are the ones who keep pushing the issue and now that he's given them what they ask for they are still whining? President Obama – why did you even dignify them with a response? You should have kept them birthing until the elections to show how nutty they really are.
