GOPers react to Obama's birth certificate

(CNN) - Republicans are reacting on Twitter and via statements to President Obama’s surprise release of his birth certificate Wednesday:

Sarah Palin, former Alaska governor
@SarahPalinUSA Media: admit it, Trump forced the issue. Now, don't let the WH distract you w/the birth crt from what Bernanke says today. Stay focused, eh?

Mitt Romney, former and likely presidential candidate
@MittRomney What President Obama should really be releasing is a jobs plan

Republican National Committee
@RNCResearch Obama's release of his birth cert. is a nice, but temporary distraction for him from high gas prices & a terrible economy

Michael Steel, spokesman to House speaker John Boehner, in a statement:
"This has long been a settled issue. The Speaker’s focus is on cutting spending, lowering gas prices, and creating American jobs.”

Tony Fratto, former Bush press secretary
@TonyFratto So the President is playing his Trump card

Mike Murphy, GOP strategist
@murphymike Now... Do I get to see Trump's income tax returns? Say, last ten years?

Indeed... didn't the Donald say he would release his financial records as soon as he saw the president's birth certificate?

The whole "citizenship" issue was settled during the Bush administration when the F.E.C. accepted his application to be placed on primary ballots. Since that time, it has become a highly distracting non-issue.

Amazing that they taunt him into releasing it, then complain when he does.

Sarah Palin turns this around to make it appear that the White House is distracting the American people from the real issues? Wow, talk about rewriting history! And...this history just happened in the last couple of weeks, and I think people know who exploited this birth certificate nonsense. It sure wasn't the White House!

Maybe she should have told that to Donald Trump.

Before the comments are closed- someone- Trump, Bachmann, or even a blog-post responder will say "it's a fake!". Meanwhile, the Republican Tea Party is once again shown to be the fools they are- They spent 2 years focusing on this no one else. All for naught.

Hey Mitt- so weren't the Republican Tea Party members of Congress going to be "focused like a laser" on Jobs? Where's your jobs bill? Or its it just more wealthy welfare? Notice unemployment is already down, and the stock market is at a record high since 2008? And you guys DID NOTHING!

Sarah and the other Birthers used this issue to create the illusion that the President "is not like us...". I agree. He isn't a thing like the Birthers. He's intelligent, cares about America, isn't a racist, and makes thoughtful, well reasoned decisions. He's nothing like them...

all i can say is welcome to the new America. Were if you are a minority, you credibility will always be questioned. But somehow the right claims they can govern this country, i am sure they know there is more to this country than just white people. Good luck winning the minority vote

What the obstructionist teebaggers/republicans should do is to help the President create jobs just as they promised.

    Dear Sarah Palin,

Without the media, you would just be some idiot who utterly failed at being McCain's VP nominee, and back in obscurity in Alaska somewhere.

Lets talk about the real issues we should be aware of instead of this piece of paper. We need to focus what the President is not doing. The focus should be on
    – The sustainability of the economy
    – Inflation
    – Jobs, Jobs, Jobs
    – Our 14 trillion dollar plus debt
    - We pay 42 cents on the dollar on our loans
    – Gas prices, which raise all other prices
    – Three wars – why are we bombing Libya who is a small fry. Get out of Iraq and Afghanistan
    – Health care reform
    – Illegal immigration
    – US and Mexico border issue (drug and gun trafficking)
    – Budget

These are more important (and not all) things to be working on.

You gotta love Romney's comment about a jobs plan. The job growth since Pres. Obama took office has been steadily improving, in spite of the efforts of the repugs to block anything except tax cuts, which mainly just add to the debt.

And while boehner may cut spending (a little), the only way he will lower gas prices is another recession, like W gave us; and what have repugs done to create jobs, except maybe all those workers helping the dozen or so presidential candidates coming out of the woodwork.

“We do not have time for this kind of silliness. We’ve got better stuff to do," said Obama.

Of course he does. He then, as reported on CNN, immediately left the microphones and rushed to make his flight to Chicago to visit Oprah. Yeah, much better stuff. You just can't make this "stuff" up.

Like the President said, there is a small element of American society that still will not be satisfied. We all know what element he was referring to and so do they, but they don't care. By the way, can we see Mitt Romney's Mormon Baptism certificate? Never mind, being a Mormon is not a qualification for POTUS, but I digress!

I find it amazing that those that created the issue, primarily GOP/Trump now say we can get on to the bigger issues of the country. This "distraction" was caused by them with no purpose other than a distraction. Romney;s quote is most telling, as if Obama should be criticized for ending the distraction. I do agree about one thing being said. Now we will have to talk about jobs, economy and oil: a topic with which the GOP have shown limited success.

It's a shame that the people who have posted above are the people who some would like to see in the White House. What a disgrace. Mitt Romney. (future president? ) In his dreams.

Now if we can disqualify all GOPers from holding a government job...min qualifications IQ > than a ringworm...and no offense to the ringworn...that would bring us back on the right track...

President Obama is right this was a silly distraction and I am ashamed of the American people who demanded to see his birth certificate. He was right to not to show it as it plays into this ridiculous issue. No other president has had to do this and it shows that this was a race based attack. Look American he is an American!! Already I am reading birthers not satisfied. Shame on them!!
