Limbaugh: 'Thank God for President Obama'

Washington (CNN)- Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh first heaped praise upon President Obama only to then qualify his remarks during his syndicated daily show Monday after saying, "Thank God for President Obama."

In a veiled critique, Limbaugh first praised Obama's role in the operation against Osama bin Laden, but later turned sarcastically critical.

"I, me, my, three of the most used words in President Obama's media appearance last night, not a single intelligence adviser, not a single national security adviser, military adviser, came up with the idea...not one of them... according to Obama, had the ability to understand the need to get DNA. This was Obama's message last night," Limbaugh said.

He credited Obama with continuing the "Bush policies" of keeping a military presence in the Middle East and refusing to "scrub the mission to get bin Laden" early in his program.

"Ladies and gentleman, we need to open the program today by congratulating President Obama," he said. "President Obama has done something extremely effective, and when he does, this needs to be pointed out."

And Limbaugh seemingly gushed about the commander-in-chief's competency following what he called the "assassination" of Osama bin Laden Sunday.

"You see the military wanted to go in there and bomb, like they always do…But President Obama, perhaps the only qualified member in the room to deal with this, insisted on the special forces," he explained.

"Our military wanted to go in there and just scorch the earth leaving no evidence of anything after the mission. But President Obama single-handedly understood what was at stake here. He alone understood the need to get DNA to prove the death, Obama alone understood the aftermath."

According to Limbaugh, Obama's success must be linked to former President George W. Bush.

"We need to never forget that President Obama deserves praise for continuing the policies established by George W. Bush which led to the learning, the acquisition of this intel that led us to the enlarged hut in Pakistan that led to the assassination of bin Laden last night," he declared.

"Thank God for President Obama. If he had not been there, who knows what would've happened."

When is Cheney going to say something?? I all I heard from him over the last 2 years was how unsafe Obama was going to keep America?

Not sure if we are any safer, but there has not been a 9/11 under Obama's watch, at least not yet. There was a 9/11 under Bush. Bin Ladin was alive under Bush & Cheney. Bin laden is dead under Obama.

This guy doesn't have a clue what he's talking about. Obama has been trying to extricate the US from the policies of Bush. It is because of the Bush policy of invading Iraq that we are impotent and unable to put boots on the ground in Libya where there is a real uprising. It is because Bush dropped the ball in Afghanistan, and invaded Iraq, that we lost bin-Laden in the first place. The only credit Bush gets is pushing out the Taliban in Afghanistan and getting Al Qaeda on the run. The whole world was behind us on this as just retribution for 9/11. Then Bush et al blew it by invading Iraq and letting the Taliban rebuild in Afghanistan. Now, when we could help a country in conflict like Libya, we don't dare because of our image. Rush is just a mouth–with no brain.

The Libtard media doesn't understand sarcasm...

Rush was definitely lampooning our narcissist in chief. He was saying that Obama feels he's the only one competent enough to pull this off right. His speech last night was very "Me, my, mine" and Rush did not think that was right considering it was really JSOC that made this possible.

He said that it's a miracle Obama reneged on his promises to end the programs that made today possible...

President Obama prefers the same approach to reducing the deficit, controlling spending, and increasing revenues. The scorched earth policies being considered by the radical right wing would be a disaster to Senior citizens, Veterans, children and future generations. We cannot continue to cut taxes for the wealthiest Americans at the expense of the least able to carry the burden. We cannot continue to cap Social Security contributions at $106,800. Those making less than $106,800 contribute a percentage of 100% of their earnings! Those making above that amount pay a lower and lower percentage as their earnings increase. A person earning $1 million contributes the same $ amount as the person earning $106,799! But the millionaire pays less than 1% of his earnings while the lower wage earners pay 6.2%. It's insane and unsustainable. Wealth is a good thing for our Capitalist society but not an excuse for huge tax bonuses. Reason must prevail.

Limbaugh said he was leaving the U.S., we don't need him just like we didn't need bin Laden. Furthermore, 7 years of Bush policy in Iraq and not Pakistan, only took President Obama only 2 years despite all the other mess he's dealing with, so go suck eggs Limbaugh.

That said, Bush let Osama get away, and couldn't after seven years and hundreds of hours of torturing couldn't even figure out where Bin Laden was. Obama got rid of Bush-appointed incompetent military and intelligence officials, replaced them with people who knew how to get the job done, and voila, two years later Bin Laden sleeps with the fishes.

    May 2, 2011 04:00 pm at 4:00 pm |

Yes President Obama did in two years what President Bush couldn't do in seven years. So yes, thank God for President Obama. Maybe President Bush could have done it too but he chose instead to start an unnecessary war. Thank God for President Obama!

  20. Truth Teller

Didn't Rush Limbaugh PROMISE to move to Costa Rica if Healthcare Insurance Reform passed? Rush, when are you leaving?

Someone needs to tell this idiot that his, Palin's, Bachmann's, Cheney's attempts to revise HISTORY and somehow give credit to President Bush for this won't work.

It is Obama's diplomacy that has paved the way for this – notice Pakistan isn't yapping, nor is the Islamic world issuing anti-American diatribes.

President Obama pounded Afghanistan and Pakistan with Predator Drone strikes via Hellfire missles, not President Bush. It was candidate Obama, not President Bush who promised to go into Pakistan to get bin Laden if we ever had actionalbe intelligence. This was in direct contrast to Bush not going after bin Laden in the Tora Bora region.

Our world is so complex that things take time to accomplish – the inertia of past actions must be overcome. In corporate America, the leader that is at the helm when things go bad gets the blame. The leader that is in charge when things go well gets the credit.

I'm sorry Rush, we Americans are NOT GOING TO CHANGE THE RULES just because the guy that will get the credit is a black man that you don't like.

What a waste of time this guy is.
He spent 3 hours discrediting Obama, and he argued that Obama was only following Bush Policies and the Headlines should have read: Bush captures and kills Osama bin laden.
He also conveniently forgot that Bin Laden escaped to mountains of Bora-Bora under Bush's watch.
His hate for Obama is unquenchable.

I just read the rest of the transcript on another news website and it is abundantly clear that Limbaugh is being sarcastic. I'm surprised CNN "reported" this- unfortunately I posted it to facebook before knowing the rest of the story.

Limbaugh began as a comedian who found his initial winning formula was telling Jimmy Carter jokes on the radio waves.
