Washington (CNN) - Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz was elected chair of the Democratic National Committee by its members in an uncontested election Wednesday after President Barack Obama nominated her in April.
The president called into the gathering to congratulate Schultz.
"She stays focused and accomplishes goals," Obama said. "Thanks for supporting Debbie. I know it will be a tough 18 more months but I know we're going to get this thing done."
The Florida representative succeeds former Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine who stepped down to run for the Senate and interim chair, CNN Contributor Donna Brazile.

She's a sharp woman; I wish her the best.

Nobody else wanted the job. This was a BIG mistake for the Democrats. This woman is a far left progressive that will not appeal to independents. She's going to be remembered as the person that got the Democrats dessimated in 2012. Well, her and Obama. Wouldn't want to deny him his props.
Wow, has the democrat party spiraled downward in recent years..........Wasserman-Schultz, dumber than a box of hair, is an absolute loon.
GO DEBBIE GO!!!
If you can get the party in line and vote according the Democratic platform (GOOD LUCK WITH THAT)
you would have worked a miracle...GO DEBBIE
Debbie will be a great chairman. She won't let the Redumblicans get away with anything........
terrible choice.....there most of been some one better than her.... this will only make things worse...
I'd prefer to see Rep. Weiner in this position.
Great choice! She will do very well, I believe.
Debbie knows her stuff and she has the right stuff to get the job done. Congrats.
she's extremely bright and someone to watch!
The Democrats path to decades of victory is to be viewed as the Party of Main Street and not Wall Street.
The democrats need to be seen as party of the people that get up, go to work, and MAKE SOMETHING, instead of the people that push paper around. This is the way to appeal to people in Missouri (which the President almost won) in 2008), Indiana, Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, West VA and maybe even Kentucky.
Tax Cuts for People That Make Something .... put that on a bumpersticker Democrats
She's very smart (unlike some of the R wackjobs) ha ha hahaha
