Greenville, South Carolina (CNN) - South Carolina Forward Progress, an independent group formed this week by a group of Democratic operatives, held a carnival-like press conference outside Thursday's Republican presidential debate in Greenville, South Carolina.
Lachlan McIntosh, one of the group's founders, mocked the five candidates appearing in the debate, calling the Fox News production a "circus" and "a celebration of extremism."

(CNN) - A federal appeals court issued an injunction Thursday to allow the name of former Olympic star Carl Lewis to remain on the ballot for the June 7 Democratic primary for a New Jersey state Senate seat.
The injunction requested by Lewis prevents ballots from being printed without his name, at least for now.

Greenville, South Carolina (CNN) - South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley urged a crowd of Tea Party activists to hold Republican presidential candidates accountable for their tough rhetoric as they campaign through the early primary state.
"We don't want to hear what President Obama is doing wrong," Haley said of the 2012 candidates. "We want to hear what they are going to do right and how it's going to affect our wallets every day."

(CNN) - Fox News Channel has terminated the contracts of paid contributors and potential 2012 candidates Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum, a spokesman for the network confirmed to CNN.
Contracts for the former House Speaker and former Pennsylvania senator were suspended until May 1st while they considered runs for the White House in 2012.

Washington (CNN) - Four-dollar-a-gallon gas sparked a partisan and predictable debate on the House floor Thursday about legislation Republicans argued would reduce prices at the pump by promoting more domestic energy production.
The GOP bill, which passed 266-149, is named the "Restarting American Offshore Leasing Now Act" and directs the Obama administration to move forward with leases for drilling in areas in the Gulf of Mexico and off the coast of Virginia that were already approved but were suspended after the BP oil disaster last year.

(CNN) – President Obama's decision to release his birth certificate appears to have satisfied all but a tiny fringe who continue to believe he was not born in America.
According to a recently released Washington Post poll, only 3 percent of Americans now believe the president was born abroad while 77 percent say he was definitely born in the United States. Nearly 20 percent have no opinion on that matter.
