‘Shut up and move on,’ Kerry says

Washington (CNN) - Democratic Sen. John Kerry said it is time to stop questioning the exact occurrences in Osama bin Laden’s house before his death in Abbottabad, Pakistan, at the hand of U.S. Navy SEALs.

“I thinks those SEALs did exactly what they should have done,” the senator from Massachusetts and 2004 presidential nominee said Sunday on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “And we need to shut up and move on about, you know, the realities of what happened in that building.”

Kerry, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said the information gleaned from bin Laden’s compound underscores his active role in the terrorist network.

“He was, in fact, the center,” Kerry said.

He also praised the Obama administration’s handling of the situation, despite errors in initial information disseminated by the White House, something he said is “the nature of the beast.”

“Letting these folks know that we have this information is actually a way of deterring certain activities from taking place,” Kerry said. “So I think they’re (al Qaeda) on the defensive, significantly so. And I think strategically the administration has done very, very well.”

Water boarding is torture, but shooting an unarmed man is okay, because it was blessed by His Holiness, Barack Obama. Gotta love the Left's twisted logic......oh, and if you don't agree w/ them, you're unenlightened.

I find it to be amusing and sad how the politicains have such a short memory.
Senator Kerry NEVER seemed ready to let it go when he was pushing the Bush administration on "how troops behaved" in the war.
I guess it is different if it is "your" man in the white house and is issuing kill orders or expanding wars OR and sending drones after US citizens.
Actually it is more than a little scary and who will be next.

It's stupid to second-guess the moment-to-moment decisions in a combat situation. And if it takes a few days for the details to get from the action to the media, what of it? The result is what matters. Everything else is just interesting reading.

So, NC jim & yolanda, enlighten us as to how you feel the shooting of Bin Laden, a man responsible for thousands of deaths, was immoral or illegal. If you go and hide on foreign soil and are responsible for leading terrorists into action to kill "unarmed" civilians, you left your American citizenship at the border.

When a man with a gun pointed at you tells you not to move and you move what do you think will happen. Worst yet a NAVY seal

@yolanda: bin laden was hardly unarmed. he had his AK47 rifle right there and was going for it so the SEAL shot him. I supposed you would have waited to see if the world's most wanted terrorist would shoot you? Put your life on the line and then you can criticize.

I'm with Senator Kerry. Instead of lauding the President, his team an d the brave Navy Seals who carried out a mission that escaped us for nearly 10 years, the right leaning "mainstream" media and all the Obama haters have to dissect and second guess every action. Here's all that matters – we got him. Mission accomplished.

Let me get this straight. Are you 2 clowns ( yolanda and NC jim) saying that you would rather that Obama had NOT issued the order to get OBL? You cannot equate TORTURE ( ie. the action or practice of inflicting severe pain on someone as a punishment or to force them to do or say something- ILLEGAL by the Geneva Convention) with the capture or killing of an enemy combatant! PLEASE, have one of the SEALS come by your house and explain all this to you.

I don't recall the people in the towers having guns to defend themselves, or the people on the planes having guns to defend themselves. Why should I care if bin laden had a weapon? Botton line he is dead and I am glad he is. The GOP is just plain angry their guy (W) dropped his focus on Bin Laden and went chasing Sadam in Iraq. Bush was a fool to get distracted by his daddy's tormentor. History will always and forever more proclaim President Obama got the guy Bush couldn't get and the righties cannot stand that.

I'll make Kerry a deal. I'm the WE THE PEOPLE mentioned in the constitution. If he'll tell me all the Skull and bones secret society secrets, I'll ....... well I'll still demand the truth, because there are portraits of great Americans on the walls of the white house- none of them recent- that expect and demand it of us. John Kerry = secret society joke

Give me an effin' break. The SEALs were in a combat situation where there were 50/50 odds of the target even being there. Question policy all you want. But don't question the SEALs handling of the situation unless you've actually seen war from anywhere besides your easy chair.

I fully support the seals and what they did. I'm thrilled they got Bin Laden and wouldn't have cared if they'd killed everyone in that building to do it. What does bother me is the need of the administration to hand out BS stories. Tell the truth up front or shut up. The story changing from one day to the next is embarrassing to the country.

  15. He'd have killed you if he could have

All of you idiots spouting off about " he was unarmed ", he would have killed you in your sleep just for your religious beliefs or simply being American. Where were you when he killed all those in the WTC that were unarmed. Shut the hell up! You morons make me sick!!!!!

@Yolanda – What? Whether he was ARMED or NOT – shooting him was the ONLY course to take since we DID NOT know what else could have been RIGGED in that house........... PERIOD!!! If bin Laden even took an inch to reach for something – his remote control for the TV or a BOMB – SHOOT HIS ASS!!!!

Everyone wants to criticize the operation that took place and still see NO GOOD in our President – I'm TIRED of it!!!! On another note – GIVE CREDIT to our service men – they are the ones who are very PROUD of this moment and people like YOLANDA wants to take it away from them......................Jeez – the Command in Chief is our Commander in Chief and President and should be treated as that!!!!!!

The Republicans are criticizing President Obama once again solely as a distraction from the FACT that all of their policies are PROVEN FAILURES.

The Repubs got nothing ... 'nuff said!

I find it interesting that this article bypasses the fact that Kerry himself is a former Navy Lieutenant (jg) decorated with a Silver Star, a Bronze Star with Combat V, and three Purple Hearts

Thanks, Yolanda, for your insight. President Bush's team did one bang-up job in getting bin Laden, right? Water boarding was the right thing to do. So was killing Osama. I suggest you try to understand the term "reality". Osama and his lackeys all got what they deserved!

yolanda–you need an editor. you're incoherent and the use of "gotta love" is toally hackneyed.

    NC jim–paranoid?

To all the haters–accept and be proud of the fact that our military under the leadership of the president got a big job done. Too bad we spent years, lives, and trillions of dollars in Iraq looking for made-up WMD's.

Too funny. "Shut up, stop questioning us, we are your masters, you are the peasants, the proletariat class, we rule you". Of course, I have no masters. I have no respect for these people like John Kerry and even Barack Obama or George Bush before him. At least, no more respect than I'd give any other person I met, from the bum on the street to the mayor of my city. All people are equal, nobody deserves to be worshiped or revered. This is the biggest problem in society today, nobody has respect for themselves, they'd rather defer to some higher figure, be it god or the president. We are all divine human beings, we are all gods and goddesses. Love yourself, achieve your highest potential, and stop relying on these useless politicians. You have all the power, change the world through your actions.

The Navy did great, thats not the problem, the problem is why for 5 years OBL has a Pakistan compound in downtown Abbottabad and not one military person, not one cop, not one Pakistani intelligence official walks by it and says, "Wow, fortified home with armed gaurds" and with all that high tech equipment we have from the U.S. we find nothing unusual about this compound. We drone everywhere else in the country and OBL is kickin-it doing some shopping in town. Get your act right Kerry OBL wife should have been arrested 5 friggin years ago.

@Yolanda...seriously? How pathetic. You are defending Osama Bin Laden as a poor unarmed man? And you think the left's logic is twisted? How partisan has this country become when the right wing cannot be happy that our president killed the most wanted terrorist on earth? The right have truly shown their partisan colors on this one and it will be remembered in 2012. Four more years!!!
