‘Shut up and move on,’ Kerry says

Washington (CNN) - Democratic Sen. John Kerry said it is time to stop questioning the exact occurrences in Osama bin Laden’s house before his death in Abbottabad, Pakistan, at the hand of U.S. Navy SEALs.

“I thinks those SEALs did exactly what they should have done,” the senator from Massachusetts and 2004 presidential nominee said Sunday on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “And we need to shut up and move on about, you know, the realities of what happened in that building.”

Kerry, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said the information gleaned from bin Laden’s compound underscores his active role in the terrorist network.

“He was, in fact, the center,” Kerry said.

He also praised the Obama administration’s handling of the situation, despite errors in initial information disseminated by the White House, something he said is “the nature of the beast.”

“Letting these folks know that we have this information is actually a way of deterring certain activities from taking place,” Kerry said. “So I think they’re (al Qaeda) on the defensive, significantly so. And I think strategically the administration has done very, very well.”

Agreed, the 24 hour news cycle is destroying the nations security with it need to fill the void. In my humble opinion far to much has been discussed. It should have been a simple announcement and the release of the few tapes to demonstrate the fact that he is dead. No need to discuss the details as it just makes it more difficult to get on with the business of destroying al Qaeda and their cohorts effectiveness. We are our own enemy.

I've been thinking the same thing as Kerry since the 1st day.How hypocritcal to say" Support the Troops"throughout Bush's run and then when there is a huge mission accomplished, the man who was responible for 911 being eliminated, you question our most skilled troops on how and from what I hear even if they did it.So because the president of your choice wasn't the one who commanded this successful operation it is" insult the troops" instead of "support the troops"?Unbelieveable!!

When the SEALS go into a dangerous mission, they know they may be killed and not come back. They have fractions of a second to to act or react. It's not a game of nintendo. So dont criticise. These men are fearless heroes facing possible death. I hold them in great respect. So you dogs nipping at their heels, go back to your comfy little couch.

So, does anyone know how someone named "Chad" thinks he's going to be Obama's "worst nightmare"??? LOLOLOLOLOL!!!

The SEALS acted tactically, not politically. The presidents (Bush / Obama) gave the order to capture or kill OBL. OBL was killed. Mission accomplished for Americans, most of us, anyway. If you don't like it.......get the F out.

The more I learn about the raid, the more apparent it becomes that this could have been the easiest covert operation in US History. You didn't need SEALs. Just Potsy from Happy Days armed with a semi-automatic weapon and body armor. Or just send actor Chaz Palmanterri in there with a rubber hose. Doesn't bode well for the film version.

@Yolanda & Jim – You Right Wingers are amazing! Obama's Administration vanquishes Osama, we get a ton of intelligence, no doubt lives will be saved, but your irrational hatred of Obama has you turning this into an opportunity to bash the Left. I'm sorry, but I am ABSOLUTELY convinced that the New Right Wing are anti-Ameircan, that is, they'd rather tear this country and it's people apart than rally behind a leader who accomplished our #1 goal in the fight against Al Qaeda. The GOP, the Tea Party and the Right Wing in general are as much a threat to America as McCarthy was in the 50's. Traitors to America, all.

Although I rarely agree with Mr Kerry about anything, he is right this time. The right wingers who are trying to make something out of this are morons. At least when we kill someone, it is quick and instantaneous (imagine the slow hell of having your head sawn off), so Bin Laden got off easy. Good riddance.

This was not a traffic stop by police on some suburban American highway, but you could apply the same legal standard of "reasonableness". This was a terrorist at war with the U.S., actively plotting attacks. There was probable cause to believe he was either armed with guns, rigged with suicide bombs, etc., etc. or at the very least had access within arm's reach. He made a furtive movement when ordered not to. The SEALs used deadly force to stop the threat. The courts would look at the shooting by asking, "What would any other reasonable Navy SEAL do if put in the same circumstances?" Case closed. Valid use of force. And by the way, Navy SEALs are "Sailors" not "Soldiers".

Mr. Kerry, I agree but you have to remember that America is made up of a stupid Media whom ONLY cares about rating and senationalism. (including and they do it a lot, CNN). Next we have our fair share of STUPID Americans who have nothing better to do than help set the Zero on the IQ scale.

maybe they should've sent in the police, or the politicians... send in a SEAL, expect the mission to be executed...ooops, pun
    intended.
They did us a favor. Had he been taken alive all his fluggies would've been taking hostages and killing them, demanding his release.
Kerry.. Vietnam.. don't get me started.

@Yolanda You are right. The "Left" is all in favor of shooting a man responsible for killing literally thousands of Americans, and thousands more in Africa and the Middle East, on top injuring, and orphaning thousands more. Not to mention all those effected by attacks carried out by his associates. Sorry if the "Left" is at the same time also against torturing a poor afghan farmer who just grew poppy for the pay check. Our Bad.

I can't believe that a man who spent much of his life waging war against western civilization would not pick up a weapon when they came for him.

Sen. Kerry has the guts to say what every other US politician should be saying. Thank you, Senator.

There might have been only 1 person actually holding a weapon when killed, but there were weapons in the rooms with the other people. A person moving towards a weapon becomes an enemy combatant because they are moving towards the weapon. Our SEALs acted professionally and in accordance with their training. Had they been reckless in their assault, there would have been more than 4 persons killed.

My thanks to the US personnel involved – the soldiers, airmen, SEALs and CIA agents – whose names I will never learn. Your willingness to sacrifice yourself for the possibility of not finding the intended target will not be forgotten in my family.

    This was an assassination.
    It is state sponsored murder.
Shoot first, ask questions later; hope we got the right people.
About those innocent bystanders; well they they are ignored.

No bravery is shooting people with guns.

    Disgusting

A US senator telling the American people to shut up and move on ... not the best way to speak to the people YOU SERVE.

If Donald Trump and Sarah Palin has personally led a private group of their followers to the same compound and killed Bin Laden, would those of you finding fault with the SEALs and Obama would be singing Trump/Palin's praises to the rafters.
