(CNN) - President Barack Obama starts his one day visit to Texas with policy, but he ends it with pure politics.
After speaking out on the need for immigration reform at an event in El, Paso, Texas, near the border with Mexico, the president travels to the Austin, the state capital, to headline two fundraisers Tuesday evening
The first event's at the Moody Theater, home of Austin City Limits. A source with knowledge of the event says that approximately 750 people are scheduled to attend the function, with country music artist Robert Earl Keen performing at the gathering.
The second fundraiser is a dinner being held at a private residence, with around 50 people in attendance.
Tickets for the two events range from $44 to the legal maximum limit of $35,800 that an individual can contribute for both the primary and the general election. The money raised will go to the Obama Victory Fund, with the proceeds being shared by both the president's re-election campaign and the Democratic National Committee.
While Texas is a red state, Austin is a bastion of liberal politics, and is a pretty good place for Democrats to fundraise. Travis County, Texas, (which includes Austin) was the source of $18.9 million in federal contributions during the 2008 presidential campaign cycle, according to Federal Election Commission data compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics. Of those contributions, 63 percent ($10.9 million) went to Democratic candidates, parties, and Democratic-leaning organizations. Travis County also had the largest total contributions of any Texas county that gave to a majority of Democrats.
The president announced on April 4 that he was setting up his re-election campaign. A week later he personally kicked off his fundraising drive by headlining three events in his hometown of Chicago. He was also the main attraction at fundraisers in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York City.
Obama shattered all records by raising nearly $750 million in his bid for the White House in 2008.

I hope the people of Texas show up in strength to voice their loud disapproval of Obama's refusal to grant Texas federal disaster assistance after their massive forest fires. Obama has a much chance of winning Texas as Hugo Chavez but he sure does love to take their money so he can stick it them later.
A few articles back, I read a post by 'Obama's victim.' I thought the Somali pirates that held Americans hostage and OBL were dead, but they are still writing their hate messages today.
God bless and protect you Mr. President. Don't worry about these leaderless wacoos republicans, tea baggers who put big oil and corporations over we the people. You got my vote Mr President. You accomplish so much in 2 years what Bush can't achieve in 8 desastrous years.
"The president announced on April 4 that he was setting up his re-election campaign."
Meanwhile, back in GOPerville, the Republican clowns are still huddled together in a closet, secretly drawing straws over who wants to announce first.
Yes, not all of us fit the stereotype...
This is one Texan who is extremely proud & honored to call Obama my President!
Obama/Biden 2012
The feds have given grants to those who need assistance. Gov. goodhair needs $$$ to prop up his budget, not help the people. Texas was once a blue state and there's nothing holding us back to turn it blue again. We have seen who was attacked during the budget discussions – it wasn't the rich or the corporations!
The Wrice of gasoline is stll LOWER than the fall of 2008 (BUSH). Why is everyone blaming everything on President Obama? HE'S HALF WHITE. ha ha ha ha ha
To: "Democrat Class Warfare "
Funny how so many of my fellow Texans want to cut all government assistance...except of course when they want government assistance.
Absolutely ridiculous...
trial lawyers i am sure will be glad to donate... but thats in every state...
Do what you have to do Mr. President and do it well.
Although I am a die hard Democrat. I am extremely disappointed that Obama and his administration failed to give the Johnson Space Center in Clear Lake Texas a space shuttle and instead gave it to New York and another one to Washington D.C., both a stone's throw from each other. He said he left it up to the head of NASA, I find that hard to believe since the head of NASA was born in Houston himself. He might be popular in Austin, but he has left a lot of anger and feelings of abandonment in Houston Texas by his Democratic supporters.

As a fellow-Democrat, I must urge you kakaraka, to never EVER post again.....unless it's as a Republican. Jeez....
You're doing a great job, Mr. President!
OBAMA 2012
I just think Obama is great. He is so smart and it takes a while to see how smart he is. Look what he's accomplished against a barrage of Republicans who think their party is more important than the country.
A nation of total immigrants where even the original settlers (the indians) do not really have a say in govt. After fighting for their independence from Britain these whites proceeded to take away that same independence from blacks and the American indians talk and we have historian talking about legendary founding fathers, talking about a nation with moral authority for you. At least you may have gotten back on the right track b electing a most capable black man as president. I wish I could say ppl are colour blind but you do have ppl with a serious mental disorder called racism, so serious a disorder I cannot find a university that studies it indept, indeed, in some the so called pretisguous universities it is practiced many times covertly
@ "Democrat Class Warfare" – Wait just one darn minute – you WANT federal handouts and are mad you didn't get them? That is a hoot and a holler. And it is DEMOCRATIC, not "Democrat". A few grammar lessons might do you well.
@Democrat Class Warfare – Destroying the economy, destroying the country
Man, your head is just going to explode with hate in 2012 when we re-elect the best president in decades, President Obama!
@democrat whatever – a fire probably started by someone's cigarette DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR FEDERAL AID.
Go waste your money, if you have it, on one of the clowns from the party of hell no.
perry didn't want federal money before and he even threatened to secede from the Union. Now he wants help from that same government? It's bad enough that our children's history books are being rewritten in his state to take out important historical facts to suit their warped sense of any historical value.
Maybe Mexico wants their land back? I doubt it!!! It also seems that not all Texans are rethug dumb!
Cool hand Barack! Looks like he has some swagger since Bin Laden was taken down. Go get'em Mr. President!!!
He's gonna have to raise a lot of green to get re-elected!
How about some dollars for the American people instead of YOUR re election Ace!
800 people out of 25 million! Is that all you can get? Only in Austin........
I'm from Texas and I just send the Obama campaign $500. I will not be doing the same for the Republicans who have infested this state. Obama 2012 with or without Texas...
With obummer refusing federa relief on the fires – I sure hope Texans are smart enough to kick him in the dung-heap!
