Lawsuit filed over bin Laden death photos

Washington (CNN) - A conservative legal watchdog group has filed the first lawsuit seeking public release of video and photographs of the U.S. military raid and aftermath that left al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden dead.

Judicial Watch is asking the Department of Defense to comply with a Freedom of Information request for the material, especially photos of the September 11 mastermind lying dead on the third floor of his Pakistan hideout. The legal complaint to force compliance was made in federal court in Washington on Friday.

The Right to Know Act needs to change when it comes national security, the public does not need to know everything, we as public citizens only need to know enough to keep us safe. When the news media informs the public, our enemies are also getting informed. Like in 2001 when the USA found out that Osama Bin Laden was hiding out in Tora Bora and news outlets like CNN reported the US's intentions to attack Tora Bora and Bin Laden was able to escape, he even said in a later video message that he was watching U.S. Satelite Television Networks and that he narrowly escaped. So I believe that we do not need to see the photos.

    Freedom of Information !
You gotta be kidding me. Idiots demanding access to film footage of a covert operations by Navy Seals. Not exactly like asking for the minutes from a local school board meeting. And what other secret operation would they feel they have the right to see.

Leave it to the republicans to stir up more trouble as a diversion to the illegal and immoral things they are getting into while we're distracted. ISN'T WORKING – WE'RE WATCHING EVERY SNEAKY ILLEGAL THING THEY ARE DOING.

Clearly, these clowns that filed the lawsuit have no concept of what the release would do to affect our national security. We can only hope the judge throws it out.

"Judicial Watch" = irresponsible political games

I'm sure the group demanded the same "freedom information" under the previous administration...

So I guess these little whining crybabies will not take the word of such "cooperative" GOP'ers as Peter King? They are acting merely as shills for the GOP who will do anything to keep Obama off balance and on the defensive. Too bad little babies. You are not going to win so stop wasting yours (and our) time

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 contains language that grants the President a blank check to write executive orders for anything deemed necessary in the interests of national security. Remember, this law was passed just after the Cuban Missle Crisis, and the mind set was to allow the President to take any unilateral action to protect the nation. That clause could be used to prohibit the release of any images associated with Bin Laden. Period.

What will you get out of that "bloody MESS" – uh???? Come on now – some people are just plain "gory!!" But since it is a "conservative" group and it's on the "conservative" side where the BIRTHERS were born – it's no wonder why want the photos released!!

David, how would a people know whether a government is lying to it, or sending drugs back in body bags, etc. if the government can hide anything it wants behind the shroud of 'national security' ?

I'd like to see the pictures released. I mean, the Tallybananas and al Quackers guys are already steamed at us anyway, but they're steamed at everybody...probably something in the urine they drink. What harm could pictures of Osama bin Lead-head hiding behind his woman do? Show him for the real coward he was.

What a bunch of idiots! Bin Laden is dead... even Al Qaeda says so! The only reason these fools want pictures and video is to satisfy their morbid curiosity. I hope they've been classified and no one can get them.

Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. Dead is dead. Anyone in Judicial Watch ever think that the risk of adding to the fire by revealing the photos isn't worth the risk? It is a matter of National Security so I support the no show....

and on what grounds will they try to tie up the court with this suit, just because THEY want to see the pics? Once again as usual President Obama has to PROVE what he has done to right wing non-believers. Word is already out that our SEAL troop is worried about too much info is out and showing these pics won't help that fear. So much for the right always being concerned for our troops.
