Gingrich carried six-figure revolving credit with Tiffany's

Washington (CNN) – Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich carried a revolving charge account between $250,001 and $500,000 in 2005 and 2006 for the high-end Tiffany & Co. jewelry store when his wife worked as a congressional staffer, according to public records.

The liability was reported in Callista Gingrich's financial disclosure forms filed in 2006 and 2007 covering activity from 2005 and 2006. Her job on the House Agriculture Committee ended on Jan. 1, 2007. As a high-level congressional employee, Callista Gingrich was required each year to file such a form detailing her personal finances from the preceding year.

Liabilities over $10,000 to any one creditor by the employee or his or her spouse during employment must be reported if the balance exceeded $10,000 at the end of the year. In this case, the Tiffany's liability was listed on the form as belonging to her husband.

Gingrich resigned as speaker in 1999 and was not required to file ethics paperwork as a private citizen.

Since he filed last week as a presidential candidate, he will have to submit his own disclosure form within 30 days.

In her 2007 form, Gingrich's wife reported the couple had assets totaling between $1.1 million and $2.7 million.

A Gingrich spokesman would not comment on the issue.

Though the reports have been publicly available for years, Politico was the first to discover and report the existence of the Tiffany's liability.

Does this surprise anyone? This is so typically republican. They are fiscally irresponsible in spite of the fact that they scream otherwise. We are in this economic disaster due to republican deregulation, Bush tax cuts, and the pointless Bush wars. So of course it's no surprise that this dimwit Gingrich would be in debt to tiffany's to the tune of 6 figures. He's busy showering himself with bejeweled golden trinkets like some sort of american royalty. He's an idiot. Off with his head.

So this "conservative" was spending money faster than he made it - or was he paying off his wife to keep quiet about the affair he was having with the next wife...???

If it's not illegal and he didn't use tax payer funds, then this doesn't matter. There's so much more important dirt on him that his buying a bunch of shiny things is irrevelent.

Newt is the John the Baptist of the GOP. He comes before the serious candidate, and spreads his message of hate and racism to stir up the base, saying things that the candidate to come cannot. He is not serious about running himself, but is happy to live off campaign contributions for a few months to pay for his wife's jewelry.

All republican fat cats that haven't a clue as to how the average Americans live and work! They haven't got a clue either on politics or how to govern other than reward the rich, corporations and businesses! Republicans have all been bought and paid for by lobbyists and the rich!

It is probably undies and slips for him. He has been a cross dresseer for decades. Newt got on famously with J. Edgar.

Anybody who thinks these folks care about the American people's well being are delusional. These kinds of politicians are only in it to make themselves rich and powerful.

Sometimes Newt just works too hard and loves his country too much. This inevitably drives him out into the street looking for women not his wife with whom to have hard working, country loving, Republican family values extra-marital sex and that involves a lot of expensive gifts: before, during and after. Tiffany's is just there to help.

Any wonder why they don't give a rat's patootie if the elderly or poor people can afford to go the doctor when their sick? They have no concept of how the rest of us live.

The best thing to happen to the GOP is Gingrich!

Oh yeah! I forgot Palin, Trump, the Birther / Deather conspiracies and those Tea baggers too.

With that line up the GOP has nothing to worry about in 2012...

    I guess...

Who really cares? So he bought his wife some expensive presents legally. Better than hiding it through some special taxpayer funded account. Taxpayers weren't footing the bill so what does this matter to anyone? Nice try lefties. Who footed the bill when Ms. Obama went on a trip to Europe? Did she buy her kids chocolate with her Mastercard? Bet we don't hear about that story or how she spends X dollars on clothing a month. Next time come up with something that means something to someone.
