(CNN) – The Secret Service is apologizing Wednesday after an employee's personal dislike for Fox News landed in an official tweet.
The message, posted Wednesday on the @SecretService Twitter account read, "Had to monitor Fox for a story. Can't. Deal. With. The. Blathering."
According to the agency, the tweet was "immediately removed" and an "internal follow-up" is underway.
"An employee with access to the Secret Service's Twitter account, who mistakenly believed they were on their personal account, posted an unapproved and inappropriate tweet," read a statement from the U.S. Secret Service. "We apologize for this mistake, and the user no longer has access to our official account. Policies and practices which would have prevented this were not followed and will be reinforced for all account users."
The Secret Service newly joined Twitter with its first official tweet from @SecretService on May 9, 2011.
"Today we are all Secret Service employees." John McCain said that.
Fox is run by an immigrant that is anti-american.
It's really an easy mistake to make when you have access to two accounts. But unfortunately, Fox News will not see the humor in this and use the opportunity to plaster this all over their reports, cause G*d forbid anyone should criticize them.
FOX is the False Outrage Xhannel. They find something to nitpick about Obama and pretend they are OUTRAGED. Their commentators seem to be constantly frothing at the mouths.
Give.Him.A.Raise.
I can't see what the heck the Secret Service even needs a Twitter account for.
And many of us can't stand the 'blathering' at ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, etc. etc. ad nauseum. So let's just get another cup of our own color of Kool-Aid and relax. Life's too short to get so riled up.
At some point we can hope the Fox gets the not-subtle-hint that there news coverage and opinions that follow are often flawed at best, if not misinformation.
I guess whoever tweeted this is going to get an angry response on Sarah Palin's Facebook about the "lame-stream media" and how FoxNews is treated unfairly. I don't like FoxNews, wish it wasn't included in my televsion package and I don't apologize for not liking it.
I'm sure President Obama was secretly logged in to the SS's twitter account and made the comment to detract attention from Palin/Beck/Romney etc...
This is actually a relief. If the Secret Serviceman had emoted PRAISE for Fox, I would fear for the President's safety.
The people at Fox need to realize that they are being monitored more than ever before. All media outlets are. People are sick and tired of being told half-truths, having stories cherry picked and comments not being fact-checked. Thank goodness that now with the social media, everything that is spoken and written can go viral and will be scrutinized like never before. Everyone in media will be held more accountable. Before Fox allowed people like Beck, Hannity, O'Reilly and others to just spout off whatever they wanted and their naive followers believed it like sheep. Now they need to know that every time they open their mouths they could be fact-checked and humiliated in public if they utter out-right lies or exaggerations. Possibly this is going to be one of the most interesting election cycles ever because everyone is going to have to be cautious about what they criticize, claim and promise. It is about time.
The guy is a hero. Someone related to government who actually told the truth. Fox News is a cancer and a wart on the asshole of mankind.
No apologies needed. The Secret Service employee's assessment is correct. Fox News is so biased and slanted towards the GOP/Tea Party that it is laughable.
Dominican mama 4 Obama
The employee spoke the truth.
And I am VERY happy that the Secret Service monitors Fox as they have done great harm to our country with their BLATHERING and unsubstantiated stories, and straight out lies
--------------mama 4 Obama could you give us a few example of the straight out lies?
I honestly can't believe the secret service would call that an "inappropriate tweet". It's an honest opinion and we do need to protect our first ammendment rights as guaranteed by the US Constitution.
@ Rudy
OK.....so how do you know that at the time of the tweet, the employee was SUPPOSED to be "doing their job"?
Secret Service employees are 'technically', always on duty.
Are you saying that they are NEVER to engage in social activities?
The Secret Service has a libtard operating in the open. At least the SS had enough sense to pull his or her twitter access before the Bush bashing started.
Why is Secret Service on Twitter?!? They're supposed to be secret.
Why apologize for telling th etruth?
Shouldn't Fox "News" be apologizing for the blathering?
LOVE the Secret Service twitter who wrote this! Spot on!! Faux News is all blather!
I'm not with the Secret Service, but I can't ell you what I think of FOX as it would be deleted for its vulgarity!
For all you haters of Fox news. Just remember they are on your dime at work and if this is the way the Secret Service performs at work and they have all this time to be on tweeter, then the staff level should be reduced. If it wasn't for Fox news there wouldn't be any check and balances on TV.
I'm trying to figure out why the Secret Service has an official twitter account. Do they have a Facebook page, too? And are they on MySpace?
