Palin movie coming to theaters this summer

Washington (CNN) - A secretly-produced, $1 million feature film about Sarah Palin will debut next month in Iowa, a reminder that the former Alaska governor remains a very real factor in the Republican presidential nominating contest despite dismissals of her potential candidacy by GOP insiders.

The two-hour movie - the existence of which was first reported late Tuesday by RealClearPolitics and confirmed by CNN - is the work of conservative filmmaker Stephen Bannon.

Bannon was first approached by Palin and her staff after last November's midterm elections and asked to produce a series of videos that would highlight the former governor's record in Alaska, an attempt to recover her "maverick" brand and repair the political fallout from her decision to quit the governorship in 2009.

The filmmaker took the idea a step further. With editorial control and his own financing, Bannon produced a feature-length film taking a favorable look at Palin's rise to power in Alaska, her reform efforts as governor and her blockbuster entrance onto the national political stage as John McCain's running mate in 2008.

Quietly and with the help of Palin and her team, Bannon was granted access to key Palin allies in Alaska and a treasure trove of rarely seen footage, including images dating back to Palin's time on the Wasilla City Council, her first political office.

Palin and her husband Todd were given a private screening of the film last week in Arizona, CNN confirmed. The movie's title: "The Undefeated."

Palin has been relatively quiet as of late aside from a handful of Fox News appearances, but word of the film is sure to be a wake-up call to Republican operatives in Washington and in key early primary states who have largely brushed aside the possibility of a Palin presidential bid.

She is, her supporters argue, the only potential candidate with the kind of political muscle needed to skip some of the early nominating hurdles like network debates or the closely-watched Ames Straw Poll, and still join the presidential primary race in September or October with a credible and devoted grassroots following.

A Palin adviser re-affirmed to CNN Tuesday that she is still "seriously considering" a White House bid.

With the film's rollout certain to grab media attention, Republican candidates already in the race are likely to face questions about Palin as they ramp up their campaigns this summer.

Bannon told RealClearPolitics he plans to premier the film in late June in the first-in-the-nation caucus state of Iowa, followed by a promotional swing through the other pivotal states of New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina.

They should've made this movie while she was still interesting to the public. She's old news now.

It will be just one more movie that I will NOT pay to see. Nothing will ever convince me to take her seriously as a politician after she QUIT on the people of Alaska! Last night, the Todd & Sarah duo were in the audience of the DWTS finale. WHY? Will one of them be in season 13?

They can make as many propaganda movies about her as they want to – it still won't change the fact that she is totally and irretrievably stupid and has absolutely nothing to say except to moronically bleat keyword phrases like 'maverick', 'lame-stream media', 'lock and load', etc., ad nauseum.

Can you say "propaganda"? Cecil B. DeMille couldn't produce a film that will wash the stink off of this right-wing, pompus, money-grubbing, PTA-hockey-mom. How pathetic that so many half-wits will contribute to this moron's bank account. One more good reason to improve our educational system so more people will learn to think more clearly!

The Palin clan is squeezing every last penny out of the public. Now a movie, what's next, how about fashion by Palin , white trash style. Wal-Mart wouldn't even touch her style.

Being president is about having the ability to craft policy, to respond to new challenges, to articulate clearly a position.

The debates and campaign appearances help voters to assess the candidate's ability to do these effectively. The notion that a tightly edited movie can replace scrapping with the opponents is sooooo silly.

I just hope that even the curious among us refrain from spending a penny on this. Sarah doesn't really care about getting elected. She only cares about being seen and being paid. This is one move we can control. I know we can't stop Joe 6-pack from showing up at the theater with his dressed up pitbulls, but the rest of us can make a statement!

Oh my, here we go again: Sarah Palin trying to promote herself. Unfortunately, there are folks out there who fall for it and allow themselves to be led into this dangerous individual's lair. Yes, I consider Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachmann, Glenn Beck, and others like them to be dangerous to our nation.

When will we stop giving S.P. news space? I agree with another poster; I would never be caught dead at any of her events, let alone a movie about her.

Like Donald Trump, there is no way she is going to run. A run and a defeat (which would obviously occur) would pull back the curtain on her mystique. She is going to continue to flirt with the idea (again like Trump) because it is good for making money, but she will never run for president in 2012 – bank on it.

I picture the opening credits as having Palin and Bachman repeatedly pounding each other over the head with wooden mallets to the looney toon's theme music.

"Coming to theaters"? Well, if you call a rented hall for a Tea Party meeting somewhere a "theater." By the way, was this made in Alaska? If so, tighten your belts, Alaskans! Palin's going to grift yet another film subsidy from you.

Lest anyone fear that Ms Palin has any kind of future in serious politics: Just remember Dan Quayle. Once someone shows himself or herself to be an utter fool in the national media, only the most extreme partisans will continue to offer support. Mainstream Americans, while drawn to celebrity and flair, will never entrust their lives and livelihoods to a clown like Quayle or Palin once they actually enter the voting booth.

Note that I wrote "shows himself or herself to be an utter fool." Our opinions of people like Quayle and Palin are not based on hearsay. They show themselves for who they really are, just by speaking (unscripted) on national TV. All you have to do is listen.
