House set to reject debt-ceiling increase

Washington (CNN) - The Republican-controlled House of Representatives is expected to vote down legislation Tuesday that would the raise the federal government's debt limit by approximately $2.4 trillion without requiring any new spending cuts.

The bill would ensure Washington's ability to keep paying its bills through the end of 2012.

Insanity. We have clowns in charge of the House of Representatives. A bunch of whiny children that are throwing a tantrum without regard to the impact of their action. I recommend that everyone look carefully at what Republican leadership looks like. It's awfully familiar to what we saw in the 90's and in the last decade. Vote the bums out until they learn that they need to govern for the entire country, not just for the tea party who make up maybe 10% of the population.

"IF" they're not going to cut spending then it's the right thing to do.

... because the House is controlled by ideological zealots, and zealots care more about orthodoxy than outcome.

Remember, the Republicans crafted the language contained within this bill. They wish to go on record as being against raising the debt ceiling. So be it. Again. Just like their votes for Ryan's Plan, put them on record. Take a similar vote in the Senate, too. I don't know who is calling the shots deep inside the Republican Party, but they sure could use a good relief pitcher when it comes to strategy and ideas.

They seem willing to abandon the will of the American people in favor of their own agenda. Remember, late last week when they had another one of those "big rollouts' on messaging? That message was about selling it to the American people properly. Former RNC Chairman Michael Steele lit it slip out on national television that they (Republicans) are not telling the American people what they (Americans) really want strongly enough. As in telling us what to think. No mas.

Aaaand, watch how negatively major economic players react to this, which is (of course) precisely what the GOP wants. Anything they can do to worsen economic stability and recovery in preparation for blaming our economic situation on Obama in 2012, they will do. The LAST thing they want is continued recovery that results in unemployment lower than 8% in Nov. 2012. If that means you have to suffer for their attempts to gain the WH and Senate and keep the House, then SO BE IT.

Why does the House continually bring up bills they know will fail?
Does anyone realize this practices wastes time and money? What happened to all of the fiscal responsibility rhetoric the GOP/Teahadists spew? Actually, what happened to their "plan" to create jobs?!
Raise the debt limit, keep your hands off of our Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and vote EVERY GOP/Teahadist out of office in 2012! No more destruction and ruin; we need to move our country forward!

Do Republicans know that one of the obligations of the federal government is Social Security, and another is defense? What happens when the federal government cannot meet its obligations because Republicans want to play games with the debt ceiling? Do Republicans really want to know? (Hint: remember NY-26?)

This is what we get when we stay home instead of voting. Enough. I hope everyone does a little research and finds out what this will mean for your wallet.

Unless they kill medicare and social security, and give more tax breaks to the wealthy, the republicans will vote to have the stock market crash, the world economy go into a slump no one can recover from, and just stomp their feet and hold their breath like 2-year-olds.

If you vote republican EVER aGAIN it means your death and mine (sooner than it would be under normal circumstances). Don't just go in and vote on your favorite republican social engineering bills.

We need to hold all parties in congress accountable and be more fiscally responsible. Each of us have to work within our personal budgets and we are accountable for our actions. These representatives, senators, and the president needs to stay within their means.

I understand this means cutting back but if we do not start now it will only get worse and the repercussions will only be worse.

By cutting back, let's start with withdrawing our military forces from Iraq, Afghanistan, and the military forces off Libya. This will save us billions.

Don't do half the job. Pass it only when it is done with spending cuts.

But what you see now are Republican congressmen doing what they were sent to Washington to do...get federal government spending in control. Excellent job, Speaker Boehner! Excellent!

The republicans are at it again, playing games. I wish we could hold their pay until they raise the debt limit, I bet the limit would be raised with all the idiots in DC voting 'Yeah". They will of course raise it but its a game of chicken and if i was the democrats and the president, I would let it ride. See, the republicans would get all the blame because they control the "House" and they are the first ones to have to act and without them, nothing happens. So all the democrats in the "House" should vote "Yeah' and let the republicans vote "Nay" and let the public know the republicans once again delegated their reponsibilty and can not govern. This is why the "republican Turds" are doing aftter the stocvk market closes because they know what would happen if we as a nation defaulted. The 'Republican Turds" have proven again why they suck as a party.

The corrupt liberals are selling out the American people with their obscene, irresponsible, runaway spending. Raising the debt ceiling will merely perpetuate this insanity, and our children and grandchildren will inherit a life of debt and poverty.

That all Right you Republican are only making It easy In 2012, When you all get voted out of the House and Senate. So say good-by John Boehner ,Eric Cantor , Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell and as many more that we can In 2012. The American People are trier of your Crap. The dept ceiling doesn't have anything to do with the budget cuts. All you are going to do Is hurt America credit Rating and make America go back in recession. Every time you Republican get In control of something you all way mess up real big. You all ready have American people sorry they voted for you to control the House. It was a mistake that won't happen In 2012. Use to be a REPUBLICAN ,but never again.

" Numerous analysts say that a failure to reach an agreement raising the debt limit could lead to skyrocketing interest rates, a plummeting dollar, and a higher cost of living for most Americans. "
" But GOP leaders, who campaigned in 2010 on an agenda of fiscal responsibility, are vehemently opposed to any increase in the debt ceiling without major spending cuts. "
Most Americans (98%) would feel higher cost of living increases, but some (2%) would not feel it as much if at all.
Republicans campaigned on jobs. The Tea Party campaigned on deficits. Are they now one and the same?
