Weiner apologizes for lying, 'terrible mistakes,' refuses to resign

(CNN) - A week after claiming a hacker had posted a lewd photo to his Twitter account, U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner on Monday apologized for lying about the ordeal and admitting carrying on inappropriate relationships with several women he'd met online.

Weiner, a New York Democrat, said he is not resigning his seat, nor is he planning on separating from his wife. But he said he took responsibility for his actions - both the relationships and for lying about sending photos.

Democrats don't resign over demeaning women to humiliating their wives. Weiner lies and distorts the truth every day so this is just an extension of that life. Watching him in full form being so humiliated is sure sad but I doubt at this point mcuh will change.

Well, I have to admit this guy really stepped on himself. I thought he was one of the more intellegent voices in Congress but he can never be taken seriously again. I don't care what side of the aisle your on our political representatives have egos that are just astounding and ultimately self destructive. What I wouldn't give to see a little humility and a lot more common sense, especially in these difficult times we face.

I really don't care if they are Repulican or Democrat. This is about someone not fulfilling his/her oath to this country. The truth of this matter is we were paying him with our tax dollars while he was sexting and taking pictures of his body parts while in his office. If anyone does this while in office, on our dime, be it Democrat or Republican should be forced to leave office. They are wasting our money and time. Maybe if all those politicians quit thinking about their "weiner" we could solve the crisis that is going in the USA. One strike and they should be out. This is absolutely insulting to the American taxpayers paying his wage, or anyone else that is just thinking about their parts down under. GET THEM OUT OF OFFICE AND FIX AMERICA!!! This is just showing the complacency that is going on in our Congress. He has time to take pics of himself in his public office? We are paying his wage for him to be sexting instead of fixing the problems of the USA? If the American publ...ic puts up with this, then our country is doomed. These fat cat politicians need to know we want results, we could care less about seeing their body parts. Come on, this is totally IDIOTIC. The US should come down hard on these perve politicians. Enough is enough. We need to fix our country!!!!

Unlike some others that have caught their unmentionables in a public or attempt to hide sexual affair by bribery, Weiner has never proclaimed himself a saint of perfect virtue. He messed up, he is paying the price, he will learn from it and be a better person for it. Those who want to burn him at the stake are lying to themselves and those around them. There is not one of us who has clean sheets to wrap around ourselves or others, not one.

The problem is that Weiner was dishonest and is another liar. Who needs a congressman that has proven he is not trustworthy. Hopefully the citizens he represents vote him out in the next election.

Is it any wonder that Main Street America has nothing but contempt and distrust for politicians? These are the people who set policy that runs our lives. They can't even run their own lives with any measure of respectability.

Who cares. He didn't rape any young boys. He didn't break any laws. He didn't even have sex outside his marriage. Heck, he didn't even meet the women!!! He's guilty of internet flirting at most. Who cares.

As for lying to the press, yes, he lied to you. So what, darn near every politian lies to you every day.

As for comparing to Republicans, there's no comparison. He's not standing up being morally superior to others and then getting caught. He did not rally against gays for decades only to come out late in life. There's very little to no hypocracy here.

It's a sad day when you dont care about the type of person who represents you. When you give those that do a pass for the same reason you condemn others. By doing so, you are only lying to yourself.

Weiner did break the law by lying to the authorities and by the statements he made to the press. The worst type of Democrat supporter is one who thinks it only matters if he supported your causes. To ignore your convictions only when it suits you. Such devotion is pathetic. Do you draw the line anywhere? Or only where being a democrat is concerned? This is the type of thought that is bring down the Democrat party.

Don't really care about this minor personal issue...should be a non reporting issue too but Wolf has to sensationalize for ratings. At least he admitted to his mistake, took responsibility, and apologized. Does not impact or take away from the fact that he is one of the good one's out there fighting for issues that impact the little guys(thats 99.1 % of us americans) Let's compare: Lying about a picture of one's weiner (temporarily) out of embarrassment VS Lying about WMDs and starting a war that costs thousands of lives...or how about: Lying about a picture of one's weiner (temporarily) out of embarrassment VS Catholic church lying about, covering up and conspiring to systematically rape countless children – No Contests here. Lets put some perspective around this non story..unless your part of the uptight religious right that is selectively offended by diversity of human activity and uses it for political gain. Stop acting like 2nd grade sunday school girls. On another note – if I were in the shape his chest shot suggests he is in – I would post it everywhere out of sheer pride. Thanks for the admission and apology for your personal life Weiner – please get back to the good work you do in your professional life.

Another politician with a "sack" of lies! I don't care about this private life, in fact the guy was packing pretty good, but if he lied to the public, the media, his wife and just about everyone else when clearly he was guilty of posting his "W" then he can lie about anything while working for the people...He needs to GO,,,

Just another public servant with no morals and no conscience. I know that as a congressman he ecpects the right to wear the flag on his lapel but he is a disgrace to this country and as a Marine I am appalled to see it there. Man that speaks with forked tongue is no freind of the people.

All you had to do was listen closely to his "denials" to tell that he was avoiding the whole truth. He can no longer be effective and should leave. He's in DC to represent his constituents - he can't do it now effectively.

To those who state this is representative of the Democrats: You have incredibly selective memories. This kind of thing knows no party or religious boundaries. Power is a corrupting influence. We look to our elected officials to avoid that influence in all ways - because once they fail in one area, they have shown themselves able to give in in others - e.g. bribery. We MUST hold our elected officials to a higher standard - as should they, themselves.

I don't think the majority of democrats want him to resign. If that's the case then he shouldn't. However, should a republican do this, then get the heck out of office... or become a democrat. This is not what I would want my political prty to stand for. I think people should focus on their own parties and hold them accountable for what they want them to represent.
