(CNN)-Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is seeking the GOP nomination for president in 2012 but has opted out of the critical Iowa straw poll held in Ames.
"Our campaign has made the decision to not participate in any straw polls, whether it's in Florida, Iowa, Michigan or someplace else," campaign manager Matt Rhoades said in a statement.

(CNN) - Close ties between two of the Newt Gingrich's departing senior staffers and Texas Gov. Rick Perry are fueling speculation about a potential Perry presidential campaign.
Gingrich staff members Rob Johnson, who was the former House Speaker's campaign manager, and David Carney, a Gingrich senior adviser, are two of Governor Perry's top political confidantes.

(CNN) The director of a pro-Sarah Palin movie plans to announce Friday that his film, "The Undefeated" will be released in theaters nationwide later this summer.
Director Steve Bannon announced the theatrical release to reporters who were invited to view a rough cut of the film Thursday. The movie will be shown first in select theaters in major U.S. cities before it's later distributed nationwide.

(CNN)– New York voters are standing by their 9th District man – according to a new poll 56 percent of voters in Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner's district do not think the scandal-plagued congressman should resign.
The Marist poll released Thursday was conducted before it was confirmed that Weiner's wife, Huma Abedin, is expecting their first child but on Wednesday well after Weiner's much-publicized press conference.

Washington (CNN) - New York Democratic Congresswoman Nita Lowey told Anthony Weiner in a telephone call that she is "very disappointed in him" and said "his behavior was inexcusable," according to a source familiar with the call.
The source said Lowey is "not going to be public" about whether or not she told Weiner privately that he should resign.

Washington (CNN) - Top Obama adviser David Axelrod hit Republican presidential candidate Tim Pawlenty over his "Google Test" strategy to help the economic recovery in America, tying his economic plans to those of former President George W. Bush.
"What he should Google is 'job growth for the last decade,'" Axelrod told the Huffington Post in an article published Thursday. "What he should Google is 'what happened to income for the last decade,' when in many ways the policies that he prescribed were the governing theory."

Washington (CNN) - As a federal appeals court hears a lawsuit against the new health care law, a new national poll indicates that a majority of Americans oppose the provision in the measure that mandates heath insurance coverage.
According to a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll released Thursday, by a 54 to 44 percent margin, the public opposes the individual mandate in the law, which is scheduled to take effect in the next few years.
Washington (CNN) - Rep. Anthony Weiner told a House Democratic colleague from New York Wednesday afternoon that he does not plan to resign. A Democratic source familiar with this conversation said Weiner told his colleague that his wife Huma Abedin wants him to stay in Congress, and cited polling data showing a majority of New York City voters want him to remain in office. The source described Weiner as "dug in."
The source spoke on the condition that the name of the Democratic New York lawmaker not be made public because it was a private conversation with Weiner.
