Consumer bureau to run – director or not

WASHINGTON (CNNMoney) - There's a myth in Washington that - come its July 21 launch date - the consumer financial protection bureau created by the Wall Street reform law has to sit on its hands without a Senate-confirmed director.

But Treasury and those working to set up the bureau disagree. They're preparing the bureau to wield some pretty big powers even without a director, many of which have gotten short shrift at other agencies.

Romney called out for 'haughty' behavior

(CNN) – Days after former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney scored big political points in New Hampshire at CNN's first GOP Presidential Primary debate, some say the candidate let his victory go to his head.

An editorial in the first-in-the-nation-primary state's Union-Leader, also a co-sponsor of the debate, scourged Romney for acting "high-falutin'" and "haughty."

President Obama to defend military involvement in Libya

(CNN) - President Obama is set to defend U.S. military involvement in Libya to Congress as soon as today, according to the White House.

Congressional sources are expecting a written report answering a number of questions the House of Representatives posed in a resolution passed with bipartisan support over a week ago, including inquiries about the president's goal in Libya, how he hopes to achieve that goal, why he has not sought congressional authorization for involving U.S. troops abroad and how much the conflict will ultimately cost.

Poll: Where's Santorum's homefield advantage?

(CNN) - It may be his home state, but a new poll indicates that Rick Santorum is not on top in Pennsylvania in the fight for the GOP presidential nomination.

And the Quinnipiac University survey of Keystone state voters released Wednesday also indicates that President Barack Obama's re-election numbers are on the rise in the crucial battleground state.

According to the poll, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney leads the Republican field at 21 percent, followed by Santorum at 16 percent and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin at 11 percent. No one else was in double digits and 17 percent are undecided.
