(CNN) – Days after former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney scored big political points in New Hampshire at CNN's first GOP Presidential Primary debate, some say the candidate let his victory go to his head.
An editorial in the first-in-the-nation-primary state's Union-Leader, also a co-sponsor of the debate, scourged Romney for acting "high-falutin'" and "haughty."
"Mitt Romney did a good job at Monday night's Republican presidential debate. But not that good," the article states.
"Governor, you won a debate, not an election."
The paper takes Romney to task for flying a bit too high following his appearance at the debate-a performance that was widely praised for showcasing his presidential-like demeanor.
And, apparently, he's got the attitude to match.
At a post-debate visit in Derry the 2008 presidential candidate told the owner of a local business, "I will probably be back in four years. Only this time it will be a larger group and I will probably have Secret Service."
And in Manchester Romney made a not-so-discreet Freudian slip while asking voters to vote for him in "November"– before he corrected himself.
His bypass of the entire Republican primary calendar prompted the Union-Leader to remind Romney that "Granite Staters prefer hard-working and humble to high-falutin' and haughty."
I will never vote for a non-Christian as president.
He will never be president, but will sure spend a fortune trying.
When was the debate? Who watched it........
I think I will never vote for the same presidential candidate as Billy. I could care less which god(s) my preferred candidates prefer.
Wouldn't a Mormon in the White House make South Park much more interesting?
Good, then you will have no problem voting for Romney. He is most definately a Christian.
well they called Obama "uppity" at one thime so I'm not too shocked at this. And who says he actually won anyway?
Oops! He's "goin' Dean" 6 months before the first primay has been held. Dean killed his campaign with an emotional outburst after a primary win. Now we see that Romney doesn't know how to act after not making any mistakes winning a meaningless pillow fight. This just keeps getting better and better.
I cant blame Romney for feeling excited. He went into the debate fully expecting to get lambasted from all sides and they all just did not do it. It's like going to the doctor expecting you about to be told you have three months to live but instead you are pronounced healthy as a horse. Who wouldn't feel a little high on the hog after that.
PS> The fact the the other candidates did not go after him shows one very important thing. They all think Romney is the most qualified to be president too. Or at the very least the only one of them capabel of actually taking on Obama in a general ellection. They seemed to all be gunning to become his VP nomination.
“Governor, you won a debate, not an election.” Sorry he didn’t win the debate
Actually before the debate I thought Michele Bachmann won’t do good job but she came out good
Mitt Romney got free ride this time wait he will be attack by commercial
Romney did not emerge as a winner, it was (please excuse my language), the stupidity/silliness of the other candidates. They did not understand that they were in a competition and needed to impress people by showing how tough they were. All of them were too nice and not a single time tried to attack Romney. If they were wise enough and did the attack to him, (Romney), no one could remember by now what Romney said!
so he's supposed to be playin' a fiddle, wearin' overalls and spittin' out t'bacca juice?
The Manchester Union Leader has always been a very right wing paper. This story is consistent with their history.
All the sudden being confident and positive is 'haughty.' These are really petty complaints.
Talk about being arrogant and uppity?! this deucebag Romney got it aplenty!
Romney already crowned himself the "great white hope" that will become the next president...election or no election!
America, just go home dont VOTE...Romney already won, NOT!!!
Once again, the way-to-conservative right mistakes confidence for arrogance. Nothing is wrong with being confident, intelligent, or smart, traits which Romney clearly demonstrates unlike the other GOP candidate-would-bes. And to Billy who commented on his religion – WHO CARES! Get OVER it already and enter the 21st century with everyone else.
Very little coverage of the real substance of the debate. They were all articulate, inteligent and on point in their criticism of President Obama's failed policies and they addressed all of the important issues facing the country. The liberal media is waiting for a mud fight between the candidates so they can spin it badly.
Obama's people had to be happy that not many people watch CNN and their friends in the media won't report on the substance of the debate, if they did it would have been a very bad day for them.
Mitt Romney is as boring as they come, I can't wait to see him debate Obama, by the way to the person that wanted to know when the debate was and who watched it? I did and believe me i held on as long as I could before I fell asleep.
actually, ron paul was the most intelligent of the bunch, but,
he's not photogenic and maybe too smart for the sound bite crowd.
romney had a tie on, now corporate of him. isn't he the guy that
goes around trying to look "normal" so joe six-pack can relate to
his well pressed butt.
I think this guy is talking about Newt Gingrich and not Romney. The scour on Newt's face during the debates as he looked at the other Republicans was if he was thinking I'm better than any of you because you're all idiots. He got the 2nd part right but the first part is wrong.
What's the difference, he's always been arrogant and haughty, besides this event was a love fest anyway.
I rather have someone confident and than a wuss.
what happened to the "no tie" look?
maybe he's not one-of-the-guys after all.
where's joe-the-plumber? don't the repubs
need a 'normal" guy to sell to america at the moment?
I will never vote for a Christian for President.
I do wonder who is advising the other candidates (excl. Romney). You don't become Mr./Miss nice at the beginning. Be tough as far as you can and things will sort out themselves in the end. Didn't these people watch the bitter campaign between the President and Hillary???
Ah come now, when he is up against a bunch of nitwits, he cannot help but be haughty
