Kelly and Giffords to share story in book

(CNN) - Astronaut Mark Kelly and Rep. Gabrielle Giffords will write their memoirs in an untitled book to be published by Scribner, an imprint of Simon & Schuster.

The book will tell the Arizona congresswoman's survival and recovery story from the Jan. 8 shooting in Tucson that left her severely wounded and killed six others.

According to a statement from the publisher, the couple will also include stories about their relationship, Gifford's work in politics, and Kelly's career as a Desert Storm combat pilot and recent commander of Space Shuttle Endeavour's final flight.

"Gabby and I are forever grateful for the heartfelt support we've received over these many months. We are looking forward to sharing our story," said Kelly in the statement.

Wall Street Journal Columnist Jeffrey Zaslow will collaborate with Giffords and Kelly on the book, and a portion of the proceeds will go to charity in Arizona.

A publication date has not been determined.

A true love story is a cure to whatever ails you. Rep Gifford and her husband is a great example of that theory. It made me cry when He sent a touching message in space for her during Bono's concert and dedicated the song; Its a Beautiful Day" to her.
But Bono 's introduction rings so true to: a dedicated public servant who almost died serving her country. Maybe the Republicans should try having love too. A love that does not have any agenda would be nice for them.

I'm happy they will be writing a book and I look forward to reading their life story. I think Mr. Giffords love and strength for his wife is really what pulled her through, she felt it and she knew it was true.
