High court strikes down taxpayer-supported campaign spending law

Washington (CNN) - The Supreme Court has tossed out an Arizona law that provides extra taxpayer-funded support for office seekers who have been outspent by privately funded opponents or by independent political groups.

A conservative 5-4 majority of justices on Monday said the law violated free speech, concluding the state was impermissibly trying to "level the playing field" through a public finance system.

I guess that law would dilute the impact of their right-wing activist Citizens United decision, so it had to go, right?

Well, speech certainly isn't "free" under this Supreme Court. It's really really expensive.

The Corporate Court of the U.S strikes again. I often have flashbacks of Justice Alito shaking his head in denial that the Citizens United case was a threat to our democracy as the President stated it was.

Indeed. Well said. And for most of us, it's now unaffordable to get heard. Rule by the wealthy for the wealthy....the GOP's plutocratic utopia.

This is clear and compelling evidence that Republican nominated [by Reagan, Bush Sr. & Bush Jr.] conservative judges are intent on subverting the interests and power of citizens in favor of for-profit corporations. It is blatant.

These are the same corporations that are against unions that protected workers from unsafe jobs [for example Massey Mines where 29 workers died], or favoritism & discrimination in hiring & promotions, or which built the middle class through wages that people could raise a family on. These are the same businesses that fight against resonsible oil drilling safeguards to prevent life-altering ecological dissaters like the BP Deepwater Horizon well that polluted the gulf and impacted seafood-related jobs.

Democrats don't shut down businesses but they force them to operate responsibly and safely. If citizens which support the GOP don't see the dangers to them - and their freedoms - that electing Republican Presidents and majorities in the House of Representatives pose, then they are doomed.

All of these pro-corporation rulings are comming as a result of electing Republican presidents that have misled the public as to their loyaties. Vote your self-interests people; not those of the Greed-is-Good set.

GOOD!! Government money shouldn't be given to ANY candidates. You want to run, then go out and do what you need to run. The welfare state carried into the election cycle. Totally ridiculous!!!

Guess that locks up the republican corporatists buying their jobs for decades to come.
