Obama believes a significant deficit deal is possible this year
Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama said after his meeting Monday with the Senate majority leader that they believe "a significant deal remains possible" on deficit reduction this year, White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters.
Obama met with Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nevada, in the morning and was to later talk with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, to keep the negotiations going on a possible deficit reduction deal.

ONLY if the Democrats get serious about cutting spending and stop this insane talk of raising taxes.
Cut spending- raise taxes- its the ONLY way to reduce the debt. Just like any business or family.
If Republicans stop playing games, stop blackmailing the President, and do their job to do what is best for America and our economic stablity. They are intentionally trying to make our economy worse for political fodder for 2012. They have DONE NOTHING FOR THE PEOPLE, NOT DELIVERED A SINGLE SOLUTION, NOT DELIVERED A SINGLE JOB, AND HAVE CONSISTENTLY LIED AND BLOCKED ALL LEGISLATION THAT WOULD HAVE RESTORED AMERICA.
I think a deal will be made, but unfortunately, these weak spined democrats will cave into the GOP fascist demands.
Is America EVER going to cut the out of control spending on the vast never-ending cesspools of waste on the so called "War of Drugs and War on Terror"? Both have no real tangible end-games and are making us bankrupt. The War on Drugs has been labeled a failure by international experts and we will never be able to stop the spread of islamic fundamentalism – stop the insanity and quit being so chicken to tell the truth to the people.
Well President Obama don't give In to them , Make It fair for all American People. Not just the Middle class ,the POOR ,the OLD and the disable like the Republican want.

Don't get stuck holding a bag of Republican ka-ka. The have not negotiated with the Democrats in the House/Senate with good faith.
Use the bully power of the Presidency & Executive orders on payments from the Treasury to force the GOP not to let the US default on it's debt.
So the Libs/Dems want to "cut a deal" on the deficit.......all I hear by the "talking heads" is......"it's all Bush's fault, and the now (6 months into it) Republican controled House which is creating all our problems, no jobs etc......if those Bush years had not happened etc".....blah blah blah....on and on.....
Here are the hard facts as well as that most feared word of all Libs/Dems TRUTH: When the Democrats, with Pelosi as Majority Leader, took control of Congress on January 4, 2007, the national debt stood at $8,670,596,242, 973.04. The last day of the 111th Congress and Pelosi’s Speakership on December 22, 2010 the national debt was $13,858,529,371,601.09 – a roughly $5.2 trillion increase in just four years. Furthermore, the year over year federal deficit has roughly quadrupled during Libs/Dems/Pelosi's four years as speaker, from $342 billion in fiscal year 2007 to an estimated $1.6 trillion at the end of fiscal year 2010.
The 111th Congress, from January 2009 to January 2011, accumulated more debt than the first 100 congresses combined.
Now our Hollywood Leader, Obambi comes out and publicly declares; "we cannot cut our way to prosperity"....meaning simply this: if you give them a blank check....THEY WILL SPEND IT! This Administration cannot be trusted with money, they simply cannot be trusted! It's would be the same if your teen is maxing out creidt cards etc.....in order to correct things, you take their liberties of money away......Enough is Enough, the spending must end, entitlements and Welfare must end as well!
The definition of INSANITY is doing the same thing over and over and expecting it to come out different.
If the Republican controlled House cuts a deal of more taxes for some little tid bit of spending cuts......every one who votes that way had better contact The Ladders for Resume 101, because they will be looking for a new job!
So Obama and Harry Reid have decided on a deficit reduction deal? Let me guess. Raise taxes. That's their kinda deal.
deficit reduction is possible if we do the hard things.
1. Repeal Social Security and Medicare.(TIME FOR THE SENIORS TO MOVE IN WITH THE CHILDREN THEY RAISED)
2. Repeal Obamacare and every other free medical program.
3. Replace welfare with the new program. (IF YOU WANT TO EAT GET OFF YOUR BACKSIDE AND GO TO WORK)
4. Repeal the IRS and replace with a 10 percent across the board tax ( zero deductions )
5. Pass a balanced budget amendment.(Time for the government to learn how to live on a budget)
