Chicago (CNN) - A jury in the corruption case against Rod Blagojevich found the former governor of Illinois guilty of 17 of the 20 counts against him.
The 54-year-old former politician was found guilty on the first 10 charges related to wire fraud. Each of the charges carries a maximum penalty of 20 years.
Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama said after his meeting Monday with the Senate majority leader that they believe "a significant deal remains possible" on deficit reduction this year, White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters.
Obama met with Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nevada, in the morning and was to later talk with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, to keep the negotiations going on a possible deficit reduction deal.

Washington (CNN) - Members of the House of Representatives reported up to $6.1 million in staff bonuses between January and March, giving out bonuses as they debated spending cuts and came within minutes of shutting down government over fiscal problems, a CNN investigation has found.
At least one congressman gave thousands of dollars to his own staff as he criticized other federal workers as being overpaid.

(CNN) - Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann formally announced her candidacy for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination Monday during an appearance in Waterloo, Iowa - the city where she was born.
Bachmann, a Tea Party favorite currently serving her third term in the House, told a crowd of supporters that Barack Obama's presidency has been a failure. She promised to lead a new conservative revolution characterized by smaller government and a lower federal debt.
FULL STORY(CNN) - President Obama's reelection campaign is ramping up its fundraising push among small donors ahead of Thursday's second quarter deadline – with a little help from Joe Biden.
The campaign had previously sought to lure donors by entering them in a raffle to have dinner with the president. But if that wasn't enough of a draw for some on-the-fence supporters, the campaign has now added Vice President Biden's name to the attendee list.
