Mark Kelly says he won't run for political office

Washington (CNN)- Astronaut Mark Kelly, husband of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, put rumors to rest Friday that he may run for political office.

“Gabby is the politician in the family. I’m the space guy and I see no reason to change that,” Kelly said during a National Press Club event on NASA activities.

Ailes and Nixon

Washington (CNN) – The claim is ubiquitous on Fox News Channel: we're "fair and balanced". To many observers, that's a way of saying Fox is a conservative foil to what some believe is the liberal-leaning mainstream news media. Was there a blueprint for Fox News Channel in the early days of the Nixon administration?

A fascinating document from the early-1970s, obtained by CNN from the Nixon Presidential Library, is entitled "A Plan for Putting the GOP on TV News." The memo openly says it's an idea to avoid "the censorship, the priorities and the prejudices of network news selectors and disseminators." The stated goal: "To provide pro-Administration, videotape, hard news actualities to the major cities of the United States."

Huntsman campaign fires back at Meg Whitman

Washington (CNN) - Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman's presidential campaign fired back at former eBay CEO Meg Whitman after she described the Republican candidate as a career politician.

Whitman, who mounted an expensive but unsuccessful bid for the California governorship in 2010, made the criticism in a Reuters story this week about the competition for GOP donors between Huntsman and and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

Who would follow Geithner?

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) - Timothy Geithner said Thursday that he plans to stay on as Treasury Secretary for the foreseeable future. But that hasn't stopped speculation about who might take his place later this year.

Sources told CNN and other news outlets Thursday that Geithner is considering leaving the Obama administration later this year, once negotiations on raising the government's debt ceiling and cutting the budget deficit are complete.

Blitzer's Blog: Bill Clinton on 'class warfare'

(CNN) – Former President Bill Clinton strongly rejects Republican accusations that President Obama is engaging in "class warfare" when he proposes increasing taxes on the wealthiest Americans.

Clinton is very familiar with the accusation. He was accused of engaging in "class warfare" when he raised taxes on upper-income Americans shortly after he took office in 1993.

Pawlenty raised $4 million in second quarter

Washington (CNN) Former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty raised just over $4 million between April and June, his campaign announced Friday, a figure that experts call disappointing for the GOP presidential candidate.

"Gov. Pawlenty will report that his campaign has raised about $4.2 million and begins the third quarter with more available cash-on-hand than the Republicans who won the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary had in 2007," spokesman Alex Conant said in a statement.

DeMint backers plan presidential forum

Washington (CNN) - Supporters of South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint are quietly organizing a Republican presidential forum slated for sometime around Labor Day, Republican sources confirm to CNN.

The event would be more of a question-and-answer session rather than a debate. Candidates will be asked to offer concrete plans for fixing the debt and growing the economy, according to one person involved in the planning.
