Romney sticks to Obama criticism, despite naysayers

(CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney repeated his campaign line that President Obama has made the economy worse in New Hampshire Monday, a sentiment that has received criticism from those on the left and independent fact-checkers.

"The recession is deeper because of our president, it's seen an anemic recovery because of our president," Romney said after a July 4th parade in Amherst.

The New Hampshire Democratic Party quickly jumped on the "debunked" claim that they said "has been central to his campaign message."

According to the National Bureau of Economic Research, as pointed out by the Washington Post, the recession officially ended in June 2009.

Romney first made a similar comment at the CNN/WMUR/New Hampshire Union Leader presidential debate in June when he said the president "didn't create the recession, but he made it worse and longer," and again during a visit to New Hampshire last week.

When pressed on the statement Friday in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Romney said he "didn't say that things are worse."

"What I said was that economy hasn't turned around, that you've got 20 million Americans out of work, or seriously unemployed, housing value still going down. You have a crisis of foreclosures in this country," Romney said. "The economy, by the way, if you think the economy is great and going well, be my guest."

When asked about the governor's comments, Romney spokesperson Andrea Saul pointed to the current economic situation, including the unemployment rate, housing prices and national debt.

"It is an undeniable fact that Barack Obama has failed to create jobs and fix the economy. He is on track to be the only president to leave office with a net job loss," Saul said. "President Obama and the Democrats will spend the next 17 months trying to distract voters from their horrible record on the economy – and it’s not going to work."

Obama is one of the worst Presidents this country has had. His socialist agenda has failed.

OH and people are not hiring because of Obamacare and Obama's continued attack on small businesses as the so called "rich" threaten them with tax increase. That is a fact. All u liberals supporting the new Dems talking pts of taxing "corporate jet owners" who do u think gave them the tax breaks and subsides in the first place? Obama's stimulus!!! Look that up. Obama was rewarding his fat cat donors on Wall St. Now his approval is tanking and what do u know? Break out the class warfare, tell the idiots that are on welfare he going after the rich, smile with the rich at his fundraiser and wink as he takes their money! Obama is more corrupt than any other president! Look at how all his major 2008 donors got jobs and tax subsides!!! Oh yeah it's the GOP that r greedy. LOL!!

Ryan, U r spot on!! All the liberal fools here don't seem to realize that Wall St supported Obama more than any other candidate. what is worse is that the financial regulations Obama passed were suppose to reign in these fat cats on Wall St. It did nothing. Look at how they r still speculating and business as usual for them. The major donors to Obama all got jobs in his admin. and tax subsides. The corp. jet owners got their subsidies fr Obama's stimulus. While the rest of the ecomony tanks and he is out golfing or at a fundraiser the next day after lecturing Repubs about the absence of leadership. And the fools here just follow like blind kool aid drinkers. It amazes me how his rabid supporters here r either absolutely ignorant or just don't care that Obama does these things at the expense of the economy. People are huriting where is the leadership Obama?

People this is not hard. The GOP has NO SOLUTIONS..If they did and they believe America first, then WHY NOT OFFER THOSE SOLUTUIONS NOW. AMERICA NEEDS THEM NOW, not when you get elected Mr Romney. Someone trying to make it right, and fails (not saying Obama is failing) will always be better than someone criticizing with NO SOLUTUION. Like Obama's plan or not he has tried something, he has offered a solution as opposed to the party of no solutions just criticism. Obama's problem is he trusted and needed the bi partisan concept to get things accomplished..and the right...did't want to cooperate..just as the banks didn't during the bailout..makes Obama look bad, so they can get relected, and put us back in the same mess as they got us into the first place..just this time with no forseeable solutuions.

I continue to hear Republicans candidates complain and cry about the economy, but when asked how each Republican candidate would create jobs, all I hear is rhetorical blah, blah, blah. Where is the beef?

If he were to listen to economists, including Lakshman Achuthan of the Economic Cycle Research Institute, the jobs aren't coming back. It is not the president's fault. As in the Industrial Revolution, businesses have used efficiencies (i.e., computers and automation) to change their businesses from the ground up. The employees they turned loose three to four years ago are no longer needed. New jobs are there, but they are in different industries than people are trained in. In fact, if you look at the numbers, the economy has grown more than than in the past two recessions, but it was a deeper hole than we've ever been in since the Great Depression. I'm not making this up. I'm quoting experts. Perhaps Mitt needs to start getting his facts straight.

Romney is just wasting are ALL of the other republican candidates. Fact is that Obama has been quite successful at slowing the damage done by "W" and his "Raiders of Middle Class". Obama would have done much better if republicans had not gutted the Healthcare plan and we had a "single-payer/public option plan" instead of what we have today. in any case, I am absolutely happy that my kids can be covered on my policy until 26 yrs old....gets them thru grad school. Let's see: where was the DOW when Obama took over? Where is it now? How many jobs were we losing each month when Obama took over? How many now? Where was osama? Where is he now? All Obama has to do to win again is recite the FACTS. Democrats will reclaim the House, Senate, and Presidency and take our country out of this republican-caused depression. The rich republicans will all but start a civil war to keep that from happening. Pay attention to how they try to divide and conquer America!!!

Mitt Romney and the vast majority of the GOP simply subscribe to the Joseph Geobbles philosophy of political discourse: tell a lie enough times and it becomes the truth.

Republicans LIED when they said in 2010 that they would create jobs. Republicans believe that the government can't create jobs, so how can they create jobs? And why do they blame Obama over jobs when they don't believe government creates them? Makes no sense!

The GOP is doing everything in their power to tank this country!!! The Tea Party is misdirected and the GOP has always got it wrong. I hope at some point the American people wake up and see what is really going on in this country and stop letting the media and politicians that are basically out for their own political welfare as oppose to the people and country!!!

Republicans kill jobs. They've made it their stated goal to beat Obama in 2012 at any price, and they've been doing exactly that. For Romney to blame any jobs reduction on the President is a sinful lie. And right now, instead of considering the wealthy paying one penny more, they're aiming to cut another trillion dollars worth of U.S. jobs.
