Washington (CNN) – Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann launched her first 2012 election television ad highlighting her Iowa roots and fiscal conservatism.
"As a descendent of generations of Iowans, I was born and raised in Waterloo, as a mom of five, a foster parents, and a former tax lawyer and now a small business job creator, I know we can't keep spending money that we don't have," Bachmann says in the ad. "That's why I fought against the wasteful bailout, against the stimulus. I will not vote to increase the debt ceiling."
The 30-second spot starts airing in Iowa Thursday. Although the campaign will not say how long it will remain on television, campaign spokeswoman Alice Stewart said it will run through the weekend.
"It is a significant ad buy," Stewart said. "Iowa is a critical state."
The Minnesota congresswoman is the second Republican contender with paid media in Iowa. Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty has aired two ads in the state. This week, Pawlenty touted his record as governor, including his opposition to unions during a transit strike.
Pawlenty and Bachmann are focusing a lot of time and resources in the Hawkeye State, hoping strong showings at the Ames Straw Poll contest next month, and in the state's caucuses scheduled for February, help propel their campaigns.
Since announcing her candidacy in her native Waterloo, Bachmann has campaigned in the state several times.
notice how the ad doesn't say anything about what she is going to do as president?
Expect to see alot of that, they will avoid mentioning that they want to cut medicare at all costs, the AARP and seniors in general are already getting riled up
She doesn't like these things. The problem that I have with her is that she doesn't fully understand what the government does. She needs to understand what the people, fellow citizens (assuming that she considers the poor her fellow citzens) rely on that is provided by the government. I wish she would look at those that need Medicaid and food stamps.
Get'em Michele!!!!!!!!! Bachmann 2012!!!!!!!!!
The George W. Bush administration raised the debt ceiling 7 times. During his administration tax rates were cut twice.
Now a republican house of representatives, elected with a 41% voter turnout in 2010, is holding the raising of the debt ceiling hostage, to force the slashing of long standing government programs to help the elderly and poor. (Note: voter turnout in 2008 elections was 61%) These are very sad times in the America.
Why do they have Newsmax links here under sources for news? It is not a source for news. It is a far right wing PAC, plain and simple.
Hmmm... That's okay Mrs. Bachmann. I think I'll vote for someone who really defends the Consitution and our liberties: RON PAUL!
Shame on Michele Bachman! No wonder the left hates her. For her life she has achieved no small measure of success while choosing faith, family, femininity, motherhood, and traditional gender roles. For the past 50 years or so, the left has been teaching their daughters that these things are a road map to failure.
"When Facism comes to America, it will be wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross."
A Presidential Candidate that wants to see her country go down the tubes. How patriotic.
why does the media not report that bachman received her degree from oral roberts university? also, why isn't it more widely reported how much money she has made off the 23 foster kids? I think Minn. pays around 700 per kid per month. you do the math. but my main point is the hypocrocy of being anti government but taking the govt. money from foster care and her salary and socialized health care as a rep. not to mention the farm subsidies that she doesn't think the rest of America deserves. she will not be the nominee but she is making a fortune. I think it will be romney, but paul ryan's medicare killing budget has assured obama of four more years.
key word: Waterloo. key problem: her claim that we pay only the interest on the national debt. key inference: Bachmann thinks that the U.S. is Greece. key issue: should the U.S, default, economists predict that interest rates will skyrocket, and everyone with an adjustable rate mortgage will suffer, as will all holders of credit card debt. conclusion: people trained as tax lawyers don't think or act like ordinary, responsible human beings.
It's hard to belittle a woman when so few have had the courage to step forward, but unfortunately, like Sarah Palin, and given her belief that gays are not children of God but "barbarians," this one doesn't yet have the smarts.
Snookie Palin is coming after that money and media attention that Bachmann is getting. Count on it IF Bachmann wins in Iowa.
Yeah but will she answer to the Michelle has poopy pants story from 3rd grade that still follows her everywhere
Michele Bachmann always brings up that she was a foster parent. She also is against the same social programs that pay people to be foster parents. As a foster parent did the children that she took care of have Medicaid? Did the children get food stamps? Did Michelle Bachmann get paid to be a foster parent by the same system that she now is rallying against?
How dare her interupt my morning cartoons with her ad!
She won't vote to increase the debt ceiling...great...that right there tells me she does not understand how our government runs.
