Obama ready to take 'significant heat' from Democrats to get debt deal

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama said Monday that meetings on the debt ceiling will be held "every single day until we get this resolved."

Speaking at a news conference, the president said he appreciates House Speaker John Boehner's "good faith efforts" on the issue. "Now is the time to deal with these issues. If not now, when?"

It's all very simple. Democrats want to save the middle class and poor. We have been paying into SS and Medicare since our first paycheck. It is NOT ane "entitlement" because it's not money that we didn't already had to do without so we can have some extra money in our retirement. Grandma is not "empowered" if her Medicare benefits are privatized or decreased and she has to pay more or she can't get good medical, or any medical, help. That IS the real ryan death panel!!!
That being said the rethugs WANT THE RICH AND CORPORATIONS THAT ALREADY PAY VERY LITTLE TAXES OR NONE TO CONTINUE TP DO SO on the backs of seniors on a limited income, the poor and the vanishing middle class!!!
There it is in a nutshell. Why do republikans hatd anyone but the rich?

Funny how the GOP will not talk about raising the taxes on businesses or CEO's who make millions and ship jobs overseas. I wonder at what point the poor people that back them understand that many of the GOP leaders are not concerned with the needs of everyday Americans only those that are wealthy (big business. The GOP uses this same argument every year and at some point you would think folks would get wise to it. I mean the President talks 4 trillion in cuts yet the GOP only want to do 2 because they don't want to cut or stop those business tax loopholes!!! Interesting...Now you tell me who side you think they are on? Oh and the argument that increasing taxes will not make corporations hire is a lie!! It is just their scare tactics!! If a company needs people it will hire people, however since this recession, many companies are use to working with a little and getting a lot and keeping the profit(seems like that profit should be taxed).

I advise all americas to learn chinese or hindi as I foresee the end of this nation. Locked down by teapartisan tactics your political class brings this nation to its knees. The success story which started in the 1776 will not end well for you all. Behind the posh facades of 5th avenue society, ecomomy, freedom and values have started to rot. One nation, under god...decaying.

Obama, please poor and needy Americans, you are remembered for ever. Do not cut nor negotiate with GOP thugs on Medicare, and Social security. Medicare, and Social Security are the minimum necessities of Poor and Elderly Americans. Raise Taxes on Riches, they ate enough by now. Bring back troops from Afghanistan, and Iraq. My vote for your, Obama. We love you......very dearly....Obama2012.....

There is absolutely no legitimate reason not to raise taxes on millionares and billionares. The Republicans need to stop catering to the fat cats and need to start doing what is best for America.

What part of NO TAX INCREASE don't you understand Obummie? I can't believe the dumbocraps keep saying raise taxes on the rich like before the Bush tax cuts. Let me remind all you pea brain dumbocraps that Bush reduced taxes on ALL TAX PAYERS. Millions of people don't pay taxes because of Bush. So here is the solution. If you raise taxes on one group of tax payers, you raise it on ALL. If you don't pay taxes, you shouldn't have a say in raising anyone elses. So shut up welfare people or pay up !!!!

An apples to apples comparison – from Jan 1 to July 1 – reveals that this Republican lead [Boehner lead] House of Representatives has passed 166 bills since taking office. Over the same period a year earlier, the Demcrats had passed 466.

Congress doesn`t work very hard, very well, or with any sense of URGENCY when the GOP holds any majority. The facts speak for themelves.

I`m not paying Congressmen $3,400 PER WEEK! to get in the way.

Over the weekend, Republican Congressional leaders had the catch phrase "bad idea" coming out ot their mouths. They said that raising taxes during an economic recession is a bad idea. Apparently, they must believe that draconian spending cuts is a good idea. Personally, I think large cuts is not only a bad idea, but worse than raising taxes on the wealthiest Americans. A group who so far has not loaned a hand in the shared sacrifice all Americans are making during these tough times.

Obama says that there will be no deal unless the GOP agrees to tax increases.
Obama says unless the GOP is willing to give in on tax increases there will be no deal.
Sounds like Obama is demanding the GOP give in to Obama's tax increases or there will be no deal.
Where is the negotiation in that stance?

If the President is willing to tax Seniors, who haven't had a cost of living increase in over 2 years, so that the wealthiest people in the country can continue to have their tax cuts, then the Democratic Party had better find a new source of income because nothing – absolutely nothing – will come from his "former" supporters. Seniors are seriously hurting. They're being hit the hardest with no increasing in their benefits and huge increases in state and local taxes. ENTITLEMENTS are called that because seniors paid for decades for those benefits. They ARE entitled. RAISE THE CAP! People earning more than $106,800 don't make contributions on any income above that limit. Raise the cap or even remove it. Why do most of us contribution on every dollar we earn but the privileged wealthy get a huge discount! It's insane. I didn't believe Obama would be a 1st term President, giving the lousy Republican field. But it looks like Democrats may decide to sit out 2012. Why should we work so hard for someone who works so hard for the GOP?

    @ President Obama
The last time you cut a deal with the GOtP you gave them tax cuts and then they started complaining about the deficit.

Raising taxes will cause a huge increase in unemployment. All you folks ranting about soaking the rich are really into the Marxist class warfare wealth distributation aren't you? They already pay most of the taxes paid into the treasury and then watch the 48% that pay nothing receive their hard earned money. We are broke, we need to quit spending.

Big whop-dee-doo! Even cutting $2-4 TRILLION in FUTURE spending is a joke. The yearly deficits have been driven to nearly $2 TRILLION A YEAR under Obama and the Democrats. The current debt is approaching $15 TRILLION (PLUS another $38 TRILLION in unfunded liablities) and in ten years will be $29-31 TRILLION!!! Are the Democrats going to expect to raise more taxes to cover this massive debt load? Raising taxes to cover this WOULD DESTROY THE ECONOMY, pure and simple. THIS is why SPENDING MUST BE CUT AND CUT DRASTICALLY. The financial abyss that the Democrats are driving us into is approaching at light speed. Obama and the Democrats have the pedal to the metal.

The American people issued a restraining order on Obama, Reid and Pelosi in the the form of a record LOSE OF SEATS. The clear message was STOP THE SPENDING MADNESS. But it appears the Democrats and Obama believe their own spin instead of the American people. The final mass removal from office will happen in 2012.

Democrats want to increase taxes "on the rich", which is defined as anybody running a business or anybody making over $250,00 a year. Now these are just about the only people left in this country actually paying taxes. The great welfare society of the Democrats has now given a complete pass on taxes to nearly half the people in this country. Even worse, the tax code is used as a welfare system, giving people even more money BACK than they would have owed.

Boehner doesn't want to tax the wealthy. He prefers to TAX the seniors who paid into Social Security and Medicare for the past 30-45 years! Cutting Medicare is the exact same thing as a TAX ! Republicans want to prevent a reduction in income for the wealthy but someone who earns less than $1400 per month - they have no problem with that.

Seniors: who did you vote for in the last election?

Why doesn't the GOP listen to the people instead of the Koch brothers and their other corporate contributors, polls clearly show the vast majority of the country favour increasing taxes on the wealthy.

What a steaming pile of horse puckey. Obama is SOO SOO brave to "take heat" from his party about cutting 10-20% of the future deficit spending!! It still means we'll be borrowing another $12-16 TRILLION to add to our current $14.5 TRILLION debt. Brave would be cutting spending and producing a balanced budget.

Why do the Dem's always seem to capitulate to the Republican creeps even before the negotiations begin? So the Dem's get their Social Security and Medicare cut...while the Republicans protect their fraudulent tax laws that allow the Corporatists and Elitists to zero-out and pay any tax ? Thanks to their army of lobbyists, the Rich and well-connected get all kinds of bogus loopholes, while the middle class gets stuck paying for it.

Democrats passing huge number of bills that taking our money and freedon is hardly a measure of success. And if this was so amazing and good, why is the economy STILL a disaster? The answer is: The Democrats passed 466 bills that were useless or hurt a recovery.
