(CNN) – On the day Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann released a doctor's letter detailing her treatment for migraines, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty took a not-so-veiled swipe at his 2012 presidential campaign rival.
Although he declined to comment directly on the implications of Bachmann's headaches when questioned, choosing to "defer to the judgment of the medical professionals," Pawlenty did tack on an aside assessment of the qualifications needed to serve as president.
"The candidates are going to have to be able to demonstrate they can do all of the job, all of the time," Pawlenty said.
He made the comments about the congresswoman while campaigning for the 2012 GOP nomination for president in Iowa, the state where Bachmann was born and where she's been attempting to build a home-field advantage.
Iowa will host the Ames Straw Poll in August, an early predictor of how Republican candidates may fare in the critical first-in-the-nation caucus state during its early presidential contest.
Across the nation in California, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney had an opposing view. "There's no question in my mind that Michele Bachmann's health is in no way an impediment to her being able to serve as president," he said.
Bachmann has been chasing Romney's lead in recent polls. He noted they have "different views" on some issues but stated, "We'll campaign in various states and express our views but her health should not be an issue in a campaign."
throw a jab man!
ROFL ... another GOPer that loves to hear himself talk!
This is what I like about campaigns before Presidential elections. Instead of politicians taking mindless potshots at members of opposing parties, it's open season on members of their own party. Then after months of vicious attacks, innuendo, and at times flat out lies about people they are running against for their party's nomination, once their party has chosen their candidate all of a sudden the people they were running against who they previously claimed were not good choices are now the best choice for a candidate to be elected President. This conclusively demonstrates what hypocrites they are in my opinion... That is why I could never be a Democrat or a Republicon. They are all hypocrites that do not deserve to be elected to any public office. The best thing we can do is vote them all out of office by voting Independent.
EVERY candidate's health should be an issue. It is a stressful job, and we want healthy people with their finger on the button...
She's an angry, psycho, delusional, narrow minded, ill equipped individual, trying to fool a nation of very gullible voters,.. and that makes her dangerous. Wake up Americans from your slumber.
First it was cruel Liberals now cruel Conservatives are showing disrespect for the insane. Sad.
It's likely split personality disorder or outright insanity causing her migraines in particular.
Gosh If she has Migraines now they are often totally debilitating, the extra stress potentially of being president of the USA would make matters worse. I am sorry for her affliction but she should drop out now on medical grounds, apart from her clear bigotry on certain subjects. These characteristics and opinions I dont want and god helpher with the 3:00am phone call whaen sha has Migraine as well.
Regards,
Hodgson
Not to worry Congressman Bachmann has demonstrated that is not capable of doing at anytime. She is just another Tea Party fool who thinks that they are channeling the American Revolution, unfortunately they are channeling a revolution that came a little later French Revolution. The American Revolution and founding fathers were guided by the political philosophy of John Locke and Tom Paine that attempted to scientific empirical principles to government. Thomas Jefferson said that he was a scientist first and a statesman by necessity, numerous other numerous other founding fathers referred to the new constitutional government as a great experiment. The French Revolution was dominated by the philosophy of Rousseau that expound pure thought and that pure thought must be true whether it is or not. We know know how each revolution ended. The American Revolution in a liberal democracy and the French Revolution in a totalitarian state.
We can all learn allot from history unfortunately people like Michele Bachmann seldom do.
Long live the Scientific and American Revolution!!!!
Bachmann is dangerously delusional , I'm sure god talks to her through migraines, yet Tim Pawlenty is a headache !
MEDICATION NATION 2012
These people don't respect their oath of office or constituents unless it benefits them personally. Why should they respect each other or anyone else for that matter?
Obamacare for Michele Bachmann . Obama 2012
Oh you are wrong Mitt...her ability to do the job..all day long every day is an issue..if she is prostate with a 'headache' and unable to perform in the office of the president..she is not a fit candidate...putting aside she is not a fit candidate in any case...
Overall, a pretty sorry lot, IMHO. And this WAS the party of Lincoln.
Okay, back to your truthiness, candidate wannabees.
I am definitely not a Bachmann fan, but this whole migraine issue is garbage. The Republican establishment is afraid she'll get the nomination and they know she can't win in the general election. Pawlenty is a weasel. He can mouth off to the press but when he has a chance to say it to the person he is criticizing he wimps out. He's a passive-aggressive little punk. And, he was a lousy governor.
Migraines can be brought on by stress.. And Michele is stressed alright.. Stress comes from denying reality.
"We'll campaign in various states and express our views but her health should not be an issue in a campaign."
Dear Mitt, John McCain did not try to hide his cancer. We are about to consider candidates who will be Commander in Chief. Any health condition that could even temporarily disable a person's mental capacity to fufill the duties of that office is an issue.
Pawlenty appears will do anything to win the nomination. This geek nerd has a problem. I can't also understand how is wife can stand him. He appears sooooo boring.
Seems fair. She gives me a headache.
I'm sorry, But, I have seen first hand many people suffering from migraines and it isn't pretty. They have become very incapacitated, not able to even function at simple tasks. Medication is a great help, however, a little stress goes a long way when it comes to migrains. Not only have I worked in the medical field where I have had first hand dealings with patients having migrains and not being able to function at a normal level, but have seen them get very depressed and say things like they wish that they could end it all because of the pain associated with haveing a migrain headache. Somebody that has to have gone to the hospital for treatment for migrains is not in my opinion fit to be President Of The United States. Having Migraine headaches is a very serious and debilitating disorder that demands constant medical supervision when they are severe enough to have to seek medical attention.
here is another loser with NO experience. If any of you ever had to make a payroll you could understand, but NO all you want is control.
The health of the president is a major concern for anyone who holds the office.
i don't agree with her politics but, leave her alone. Many people have this condition. I used to be one of them. She will age out of it as did I. There is no reason to make this an issue when she will never become President. Just pray for her good health without pain. Mr. Pawlenty, quit taking peoples money for your campaign and go home.
Even Little Timmy Pawlenty's initials (T.P.) indicate where he is in the republican polling at (two percent). You would think that the tea party (T. P.) would back this little mouse because he has changed every political position to get the baggers to like him.
I hope her health is not a problem. I hope people see her views and ideas as problems. She is a crazy person who is the wrong person to lead this country.
