Member of the "Common Sense Is Too Damn Scarce" Party poll at 100% in favor of a compromise involving spending and revenue reforms.

The GOP is driving us to default. Plain and simple. When they say "Americans don't want revenue increases," they mean billionaires. That's all they care about anyway.

Let's see if Boehner and the rest of the Republicans want to follow the will of the people now. They are always saying that is what they are doing. It seems, however, that they define the "will of the people" as being the thing they want to do, regardless if it is actually true or not.

If the Republicans in Congress mess this up and there are dire consequences, THEY WILL OWN THE ECONOMY. However, I have noticed the Republicans (either politicians or at large) seem to consider responsibility as something that applies to others and not to them. They want their rights and privileges and to ignore the responsibilities that come with them. They frequently act like spoiled, selfish children.

My family can't live beyond its means, so why should our country. I don't understand why people don't think we should have a balanced budget. Stop spending money that we don't have. We can raise taxes, but without the balanced budget, we'll be right where we are today – still spending more than the new taxes brings in. Its an ever rising mountain of debt.

Exactly! Listen to the carefully chosen phrasing. They say it to make you hear "all Americans."

You are correct in what you say. However, this statement, and other like it, are 100% truthful. Technically, it is not lie. But, it is terribly misleading.

We are bringing in enough money to pay our major stuff like Social Security, Military pay, etc. Obama just chooses to try and scare everyone by saying that SS and MC wont get paid but refuses to place ObamaCare on the alter. How caring of him for our seniors.

So republicans are the ones who shun responsibility? I believe for a 2 year running period Dems controlled Congress and the White House, and when things didn't improve, wasn't it still Bush's fault? Yeah, they are so responsible themselves as to take NONE of the blame. This is a 2 party problem, quit trying to blame 1 party.

As for the "will of the people" to raise taxes on the rich (who already pay a whole lot more than everyone else), i actually agree. We need to raise taxes, but on everyone. ~50% who contribute nothing should be paying in something. After all, don't they use roads and benefit from our national defense just as much as the rich who pay a whole lot more?

Wow. If you look at the details of the survey, it's pretty dramatic. Tea Partiers/Republicans are against tax increases and blame the President for the current situation, but among everyone else there is strong support for the President's position and blame for the GOP. Seems like a reflection of reality to me.

The other thing you notice is that old, white males from the south seem to have a problem with the President. What a surprise !!!!!!

Independents did not vote with the Democrats in November. I think this poll is very suspect.

GOP is not driving us to default. Obama never voted to raise the debt ceiling under Bush so why is it not ok for the GOP to not vote for an increase. Obama is driving us into default, do to lack of leadership, no plan, and that he wants to raise taxes on people making 250,000 or more. That does not mean billionaires like Billy proclaimed. Obama has accumulated almost as much debt in 2 1/2 years as president, then Bush did in 8 years. DEMS don't read bills that they pass, and go against the majority of americans who don't want a specific law passed ie Affordable Healthcare Act, Stimulus, Omnibus, etc. Dems did not compromise with this legislation, so why should the GOP compromise. Get rid of tax breaks for Corporations like GE, that don't pay any taxes, but make billions of dollars in profit, annually. I do agree with one thing though, we do need to close loop holes for Oil companies as well. We also need a system to get folks that are on government assistance off and working again. I bet you if places paid more in sallary, than Disability and Welfare pay out, less people would be recieving government assistance and get that job. We also need to stop giving assistance to folks who work the system for years. The main thing is that we are not going to cut any of our debt, while we have a majority rule of dems in the Senate and a dem president. We need to vote for responsible people who are going to live within their means. A majority of Americans are struggling and Obama wants to spend an additional 2.5 trillion. Give me a break. I say since all our politicians got us into this mess (Including ones voted out of office or have retired, should pay the debt back. They are the ones who made the costly decisions that got us into this mess. Republican or Democrat, doesn't matter. The fault is on both parties 50/50.......

It's funny how majority want government to cut spending but when it comes down specific cut that matters to them the poll changed.

Or maybe it's "Heads they win, tails we lose". Whatever. Billionaires and corporations are protected. Welfare for the wealthy. What a concept.
