Debt ceiling impasse imperils safety net programs
NEW YORK (CNNMoney) - Social Security payments aren't the only federal lifeline that could grind to a halt if the debt ceiling impasse continues beyond Aug. 2.
The federal government supports myriad safety net programs, such as unemployment insurance, tuition grants, food stamps, child care subsidies and housing assistance. That's not to mention the nation's massive health insurance programs: Medicare and Medicaid.

Here's the solution:
When you go into the polls on November 6, 2012, walk in, get your ballot, and look. You will see many candidates, and then you will see one with an "R" next to their name. Vote for anyone on that ballot EXCEPT the one with an "R" next to their name. Do this, and you will have done America a great service.
We can thank the republicans/tea baggers for creating this chaos. There was no reason for this – the debt ceiling has been raised without incident almost 90 times, yet they CHOSE to create chaos – and it will be all of us that will pay the price. If we default, we will be paying higher interest rates personally and as a nation – and the debt will rise because of it. Boehner is failing as a leader, and the tea baggers are failing in their duty to do the best for the nation. For all those that knee-jerk voted in this last election, this is an impactful lesson – elections have consequences, vote wisely.
The Greedy Old Pigs WANT this to happen. When the dollar collapses the value of the dollar will tank and interest rates will go up. Afterwards GOBPbaggers will claim those things justify even MORE cuts because the devalued dollar will be worth even less than it is today and therefore even MORE "austerity" will be needed. Pay attention to Greece, That is the blueprint for how the elite impose their will on the masses. Fortunately, the masses in Greece are fighting back. It remains to be seen how the poor and middle class in America will respond.
Maybe the checks for CONGRESS should not go out - EVER AGAIN. They're not working for us, they're working for Norquist, Armey, Rove, the Koch Brothers, and big Oil and Farmers that get subsidies.
Seniors need to fire every single Congress person up for re-election, if they fail to pay SS.
Is this the hope and change obama promised? Worst President ever.
The Republicans will pay a Political price for this outrageous lack of responsibility as this country approaches a crisis.
This would be a horrible thing to let happen and I hope the weeper of the house and his tantrum boy realize this, but this is what the republikans want. Let people, including the teabaggers who are mostly dependent on medicare and social security, not get their checks or they can't go to the doctor.
The rich won't be hurt by this one iota. They have plenty of money to allow them to ride any financial storm and come out fresh as the morning dew.
Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom before you realize that something needs to be done.

I have the perfect solution for this Great Country, & some good advice for Dems........".end Welfare as we know it" just as your hero Clinton did & 80 million people fell off welfare (by-the-way, no one died or went hungry) then ask the DNC to take some of their Liberal Union Fee payments.....errrrahhh I mean donations, and purchase all these Welfare Recepients a Sunday Newspaper......instruct them all to a section no Democrat is familiar with....The Classifieds, and look under the section called JOBS!
Companies will be barred from instituting caps on coverage when your costs for treatments goes up due to sickness, you can now get insurance with out caps on coverage at "Penny Health" search them online.
I have faith that the democrats wont give in to the "hostage negotiations" by the republicans, who think the rich should get a free pass while the rest of us basically have to sign on the dotted line in blood! This nation is not made by the rich but by the working class! To claim anything less is disingenious! Just try to get along without us, politicians! Go ahead & deny the ceiling raise, the world will be on your tails!!
Speaker Boehner step in it. He had a chance to pin 50% debt ceiling mess on Pres. Obama but, he walks away(100% on him). Now he's trying to push an unknown plan by Sunday before the Asia Markets open. He's nuts! You can't push a plan when you need Democrats votes to pass? He should go back to the table with Pres. Obama or get ready to pass the gavel.
We paid into Social Security my whole working life! Now that it's time to start getting it back the GOP/Tea Party tells us we'er a sponge living off the backs of the Corporations and bleeding them dry! If you put money in a bank all your life do they get to keep it! One Tea Party member told me, in a e-mail, I should slit my wrists so his taxes could go down! Hitler would have liked him!
Now is the time to decide who we the people are going to replace in congress all of them
"safety net programs"??? Looks like a giant federal government teet to me. I'm sure there are more of these programs that are not listed. Why is the federal government involved with "child care subsidies"? I must have missed that one in the Constitution.
