Pledge writers pressure lawmakers to toe line in debt crisis

Washington (CNN) - With the clock ticking down until the U.S. hits its debt ceiling, conservative and progressive third-party interest groups whose pledges lawmakers have signed their names to are ratcheting up the pressure to keep them in line.

One of the biggest sticking points in negotiating a deal to raise the debt ceiling while addressing the long-term deficit has been Republican demands that there be corresponding dollar-for-dollar cuts in federal spending, that taxes cannot be increased to pay down the deficit, or that a balanced budget amendment is the only way to get the government on a path to longer-term fiscal health.

As a US citizen I feel as if I am a child watching drunken abusive parents arguing with the result being that that child is being traumatized and will carry the baggage of that trauma for a long, long time.

Republican pledges only hamper GObpers, and can be compared to trying to swim with both hands tied behind your back.

I gotta comment on a certain line of thinking I hear often from my right wing friends. This idea that because the top 1% pays 25-60% of taxes, they actually should pay less needs to be put in perspective. The top 1% of Americans hold at least 90% of the wealth. In a society where everyone pays the same percentage of their income in taxes, the top 1% would actually pay 90% of the taxes. However, in our society, the top 1% can hold 90% of the wealth and only pay at most, 60% of the taxes.

Alot of numbers, I know. But I'm just saying that it is stupid to expect a family making $40k a year to contribute as much in taxes as a man making $40 Million a year. The rich can pay more. So to all my right winger, conservatives, republicans, and tea partiers, keep pushing for spending cuts, but accept that revenue increases is also nescesary to efficiently tackle the debt. If Grover thinks he's right about no taxes, then have him run for President or congress. Take his message to the general public and see how that works for him. Lets make him accountable to the American People for once

They have their millions, billions, etc. The more of us that die of starvation the less they have to pay us back WHAT WE CONTRIBUTED TO SOCIAL SECURITY. It's plain and simple.

Force women to be breeding machines to generate bodies for them to send to war, and then kill everyone off when no longer young enough to donate to their wealth.

Vote the tea-baggers and republicans out - or welcom to the FASCIST government that's coming faster than you think (Fascsm = Corporatism = Everything for corporations, nothing for the workers).

Aaaaah, the filthy and rancid scent of divided loyalties. Do these pledge signers represent only those people and ideologies to whom they have sworn absolute loyalty or do they represent the Amurikan people? Story on August 2.

Hey Grover, you're not an elected official. You are a germ that needs to be exterminated along with your fascists republican regime. Enough with the stupid pledges. A sensible President can not stay true to a pledge when he/she is faced with economic catastrophy. Remember George H.W. Bush you moron?

  11. The Day of Financial Reckoning is HERE - The Great Democrat Welfare Society Ends

Its about time Republicans start talking about where all this insane spending takes us long term. If the truth scares you then it is better you are scared now than blind sided by the Democrats lies and deceit about what the future holds. This country simply cannot borrow and tax enough to pay for their great welfare society dream. They are promising us a future like Greece, bankruptcy. WAKE UP AMERICA!! Is a bankrupt America the legacy you want to leave to your kids?? The Democrats would have you believe free lunches can be had by all by making others pay for it. It doesn't work that way in the real world, just ask the Greeks.

To Wiredweird. . . Your name says it all. I have never encountered a person so reality challenged as you are. You really need to do some fact checking, but then you would have nothing to rant about. Just keep sucking up to the lying, incompetent inept corrupt republicans who cater to corrupt billionaires and foreign governments who support your attacks on America. Who knows, maybe Fox or the Koch brothers will hire you, and you can move out of your parents basement.
    Your friend,

Instead of pledges, all we need are some REAL MEN to stand up and do the right thing in Congress.

So what if it may cost you the election? Vote to cut GOP sponsored spending on War, weapons, and unfunded tax cuts for job creators.

Viola, that would raise about $7 TRILLION over 10 years.

I don`t see why we want to cut SS and Medicare which collect their own, seperate taxes to fund them. Did the actuaries do a lousy job estimating the programs costs and the taxes have been too low?

Certainly no estimate was made, nor taxes applied, to address the TRILLIONS associated with the wars in Afghanistan & Iraq. Where were all those "just say no" Republicans then?

So what this really means is that people who have not been elected or appointed are really running the GOP with no accountability to anyone. How can anyone think this is a good idea?

How about honoring the pledge taken, when the first day of being or holding office occured? Why is taking a pledge for a special interest group, more important than that of the American People? Could the answer be the payoff from the special interest group is more lucrative? WAKE-UP people. Your elected officals are for sale to the highest bidder. And Guess what, it's not you.

This is what Article IV says about taking oaths.
The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.
In other words, all of those who take these oaths to uphold that false religion of "no tax cuts" are in violation of the primary oaths to defend the Constitution. Which means they must make sure that the debts get paid, FIRST. Putting any other oath or pledge ahead of their constitutionally mandated oblibations to the country is to be regarded as treason.

    Article III:
Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.

By the next election cycle here is what the American people will remember after the GOP/TEA Birthers took over the house.

    1) They shifted focus from jobs and the economy to defending DOMA.

    2) They almost pushed us into a government shutdown.

    3) They almost pushed us into a credit downgrade.

    4) They fought to kill medicare and medicaid

    5) But they sure fought vehemently for those top 1% wealthy people.

All at the expense of the economy and the middle and working class.

President Obama and Nancy Pelosi make over $250K a year and even they know the sacrifices they have to make. When will the GOP/TEA Birthers pay down THEIR debt?

    The right HAS become deranged.
Vote for Term Limits for Congress!

  22. The Greedy Old Pigs have declared class war on US!

The GOBPbaggers pledges amount to "we promise to look out for the greedy and ignore the needy." Another way of phrasing their stupid pledges would be "we promise not to ask our corrupt corporatist cult members to make any sacrifices, and will only ask poor and middle class Americans to make sacrifices." For these teatards to give higher priority to non-binding pledges above the interests of America is downright un-American. Keep burning up those phone lines, folks.
