Rick Scott opposed to raising debt ceiling

(CNN) - Despite his own party's growing push to raise the federal debt ceiling, Republican Gov. Rick Scott of Florida insisted Wednesday the government should resist any increase in the debt limit.

"We can stop borrowing money at the federal level if we cut our spending at the federal level," Scott said on CNN's "American Morning." "We don't have to keep borrowing more money."

Scott repeatedly argued the government should follow the business model of a company when it comes to debt.

"What do businesses do if the revenue goes down? They have to stop borrowing money," Scott said. "Our government is no different. What's the limit? Is it $14 trillion, $16 trillion, $20 trillion? And who's going to pay for this? Our kids will pay for this."

When pressed by CNN's Christine Romans on what he would cut from federal programs, the Florida governor did not outline specifics.

"Well, you go through the most important things–just like what you do at the state level–you go through the most important things, and then you have to cut back," Scott said.

Romans reminded Scott that Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said the country would see an immediate 40 percent cut in federal spending if there's no agreement by the August 2 debt deadline.

"The impact near-term on the economy would be disastrous," Romans said.

But Scott remained firm in his stance, saying the only solution is to cut spending and lower taxes.

"Higher taxes, more regulation, trillion dollar deficits kill our economy," Scott said. "This is about jobs, about our future. We cannot continue to borrow money."

This is the worst Governor Florida has ever got. He is a Tea Party clone and he will do everything to please the Tea Party and not cooperate with the current Administration. What else is new? The Republican-Tea Party Talibans are trying to do everything to ensure that Obama does not get re-elected next year. They will do everything within their power to destroy the image of this black President in order to take over next year.

Both parties should be replaced by an indepentent party. Replace the Democratic Party and most of all. the Republic-Tea Party Talibans.

The largest single policy contributor to the deficit is the bush era tax reductions for the wealthy. When people like the bosses of hedge funds pay less tax than their secretary, it's time for the tea baggers to wake up and work towards a solution that involves all facets of the budget, and that signing pledges to not raise taxes isn't realistic or fair.

This from the increasing unpopular governor of a state that has more old people on the federal dole than any other in the union. Florida politicians used to avoid issues like this, for this very reason. He'd better hope that they don't figure out that he's talking about "saving" money by taking it out of their Social Security checks. That would not go over well.

The government gets it's revenue from taxes. This IDIOT in Florida, along with the rest of the Greedy Old Pigs wants to cut spending. OK, I can go along with that if it is done in a responsible manner. Then we could pay down the debt, however, he wants to also cut the source of revenue that would be used to pay down that debt. Only IDIOTS would beleive that you can lower your spending and lower your income and make more money at the same time. I guess that is what it takes to qualify today to be a Republican politician today.

Any gardener knows that when you water your garden at the top of the plants with a trickle of water, that the water will be aborbed at the top and evaporate long before it reaches the roots. Gardeners know that doing so will cause their plants to die. So, they open the faucet *periodically* on the roots where the soil adds its' nutrients to make the plant thrive. Did you notice the key word in that last sentence, periodically? Not continuously, which every gardener knows will kill the plants just as fast as always trickling a few drops on the top.

  9. The Day of Financial Reckoning is HERE - The Great Democrat Welfare Society Ends

The Democrats have turned the country into an entitlement society. A large percentage of our population has become addicted to the government methadone called a US Teasury check. Free money that shows up simply for the asking, paid for by others. They have taken one of the most productive countries this world have ever seen and turned it into a land of freeloaders and takers. They have designed programs that DISCOURAGE work in order to receive "government assistance". This country is doomed unless the government methadone is stopped or severely restricted. The people hooked on it don't understand what it has done to them, and this country. Their government money addicts.

That's how it always works. They divert funds into tax cuts for themselves while running up deficits. By the time the next election comes along, taxes need to be raised to make up for the fiscal mismanagement and disservices. This clean up task usually falls on a Democrat, who must spend money where it should have spent in previous years further increasing the deficit. So, the Democrat is forced to raise taxes to re-coup the lost revenue due to the *original* tax cuts enacted by his Republican predecessor.

This cycle makes the Republican look like the champion of reduced spending and tax cuts, while the Democrat looks like the champion of spending and tax hikes. The truth of the matter is that the Republican ran a scam and the Democrat took the blame for it in the name of the people.
